Apart from working for a living and being ill myself, everything over the last couple of months has been taken up with the hilarious and heart-wrenching adventure of having my most amazing, 90 year-old mother, taken into hospital with a broken wrist. One day it will maybe provide a lot of material for my writing, but writing is the furthest thing from my mind at the moment. I am so lucky that (a) my mum has so much of her mind and personality intact (b) that I have so much support around me (c) I live in a country where, for all its faults, there is affordable, if often inadequate, care available, (d) I can afford the time and money to visit the hospital several times a week. My heart and my prayers go out to the many people for whom none of those things are true.
