With publishers and agents alike not realising my genius I am forced now to give away my works of art for nowt.
My friends and work colleagues loved my latest novel - and they are not shy to call me a "TwaT!" so I see no reason for them to lie about the novel "what I wrote" to avoid hurting my feelings.
As my dear old granny used to say to me, as I snuggled up to her rocking chair in front of the kitchen fire, tears streaming down my face after yet another rejection slip, "Stephen my dear boy" she'd say, "do not worry about these people being nasty to you, for one day you will find success, as long as deep down in your heart you believe in yourself...and then you can say to yourself...f*!k 'em!" And those words have stayed with me ever since - and also with Father Ivor Wart who almost choked on his hot chocolate.
After putting in all the hours to produce the poems, sketches, sit-com pilots and novels it would be a shame for only a handful of people to have the opportunity to tell me it's s*!t.
I started writing in 1999 with poems and rhymes of a religious nature which I would use to get a message over to the congregation - poems that rhymed seemed to stay in the mind longer than straight text, a bit like a song sticking in your head. Depending upon your bias I was a spiritualist medium, a devil worshipper or a f**king lunatic at that time.
I managed to get a few short stories and poems published and then had a crack at novels and TV scripts. My co-writing with local stand-up comedians led to a performance for charity at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay, South Wales - the major arena for opera, ballet and world re-knowned performers. For Dr. Who fans it is also the setting for the spin-off BBC TV series 'Torchwood' . In fact the set for the inside of the TARDIS exists in a small TV studio about 5 minutes from my home. This will mean nothing to non-Dr Who fans - my apologies.
I would like to write comedy for TV but as yet I have not quite got the formula right. I think perhaps I need to be more original and contempory.
I look forward to reading your work - and hope you enjoy what I have created.
