The Doc said a 47xxx isn’t a type of Cowboy Hat (Darn!)
I'm Lady Jewells. Lady Jewells is my pen name, but not my birth name, though perhaps it should be. I've been very fortunate in life. I was raised by wonderful parents - who instilled Christain values. Who loved me and still love me, even though I push the boundaries of their love a lot. Sometimes - I want to change my real name to my pen name, just to protect my parents. But they know better than anyone, I'm a story teller.
I write short stories, mostly realistic fiction. The stories are in-part truth, but I tend to embellish a wee bit (think of those wild fishing stories -LOL). In almost every story - you'll find a message. What message? Mostly a gift of perspective. I fancy myself a bit of a Sage. My words will always speak to you (Always).
I tell folks all the time. I write, because I have lived a storied life. My whole life has been one adventure after another. It just has. I'm so zany and unique. My good friend, Derrick Groves calls me his "Lucy" - because I'm always getting into something quirky and/or making folks laugh with my tall tales. Whenever my life gets mundane - either God or I, jazz it up (think of my stories: Guess Genes or My Stroke).
People remember me, because I'm a gift of perspective. I take pride in being very positive, upbeat and flexible. I believe in finding the good in every situation. There's always a lesson we can learn. I believe in helping people achieve and grow into the best person they can be and in making each life I touch, a little better than when I found it. My rule of thumb: Do no (lasting) harm. (I say do no lasting harm, because even a spanking causes harm, however I agree, sometimes corrective action is needed. And some spankings can be pleasureful, too. I'm snickering!! ) Yep > I’m just a hopeless optimist (smile).
As a child growing up with a learning disability in Language Arts, I grew up with limits placed by well meaning people; who thought I couldn't do things because I was in special education. POSITIVE THINKING and PERSEVERENCE are the keys to achieving any goal you want to achieve. Look at me; I graduated high school with 3rd grade reading skills. Even though I hated school, I entered community college in 1977. Granted, my poor reading skills landed me in a remedial Reading class. But all it took was perseverence and 1 steadfast Junior College Reading Professor – Dr. Painter, to find the right combination of materials and strategies to teach me how to read. ~Later I graduated with my BA in 1987 and I got my MBA in 1997.
I started writing poetry in High School as a way to express my feelings. In college, as my reading skills improved – my writing improved as well. To give back and help other people like me – I studied and slowly became an educator. I say slowly, because my new reading skills opened up all kinds of new doors. I took off – got married, toured Europe, did some modeling, got divorced, joined the military, got discharged on a medical, and then returned to college in 1984.
After I graduated from the university in 1987, I went to work. And My life only got better. In 1990, I met Whiskey, my frisky cowboy playing pool. The winner of the Best of 5 pool games birthed 2 beautiful daughters, in 1991 and in 1992. In 1995, the rebel in me fell in love with a biker. I love motorcycles. Soon my career as a published Human Interest writer took flight in 1996 -1998, with poetry and motorcycle event stories published in The Patriot Newspaper, a motorcycle rights publication produced by the Modified Motorcycle Association (MMA-AZ) in Arizona. From 1999 forward – Known as Lady Jewells, I've ridden and written stories as a motorcycle news reporter for AriZona Rider Newspaper (www.azridersouthwest.com). However, during all those years - I had other writings, too; hidden treasures - my poetry, my life tales and some lusty love tales that I shared only with my closest of friends.
In June of 2009, I suffered an Ischemic stroke (see Chapter 1 – Lady Jewells has a Stroke). To say, losing 10 years of memories in 15 minutes, jarred my world, is an understatement. It rocked my world. But I'm one of the Lucky ones - I not only survived - I'm thriving. God was a key member on my healing team. 3 rounds of Brain Balancing from Brainstate Technologies (www.brainstatetech.com) was another key ingredient to my recovery. That and the laughter of my friends. I believe everything in Life happens for a reason. My Stroke was a blessing in disguise and my recovery has been the grandest adventure I've ever had, so far.
In December of 2012, as a part of my stroke recovery and at the behest of my friends, I decided to take a 'Leap of Faith' and come out of hiding. Say what? Let me explain. Even though I've been publishing human interest stories since 1996, I felt it was time to publish my hidden treasures (my poetry, tales of my adventures/memoires and my lusty love tales) via booksie and booksie silk with the world.
Please enjoy my treasured writings.
