The Baseball Tragedy of 1920

Short Story by Per Jensen

The tragic tale of a player who gave his life to the game.

In the year 2000 disaster struck when Per Jensen was nearly killed by a ruptured aneurysm in the brain.  It was the proverbial 'struck by lightning' without warning, totally unexpected, and life-changing.  At the time, Per and his companions had no idea how severe such a case really is, but it was soon learned.  We also learned that such catastrophic problems were just the beginning of a long and complicated series of related troubles.  During his long recovery periods Per decided to write a short biography about a baseball player, Ray Chapman, the only professional player to die from on-field injuries.  It was only an attempt, but it turned out very well.  So well that it was accepted by the Baseball Hall of Fame library, which is a very difficult task.  That encouraged Per to write two more biographies.  One was about the life and times of another baseball legend, Barney Dreyfuss, the other a story about a famed radio personality, Jim Youngblood (which included his family geneology).  Soon after these were completed Per returned to his work with the rock band MagellanMusic and no writings have followed.  Per Jensen's work may have been brief, but it was good.  We hope you enjoy
