It's nice to remember the good and extraordinary things that have happened in your life, they're a safe place to visit and hide behind. They can also become something else, they can become something to share with your kids (if you have kids). And if you're asked to relay those stories over and over again, only ever embelishing them slightly, those stories then belong to them, too. And when they ask for a new one there are always several that come to mind. Then it becomes your job to tell them in a such a way that they can relate to them and lose themselves. This is the most satisfying aspect of telling my stories to my own kids, and other kids alike. They get to use the thing that makes the world a more interesting place to be in...their imagination. I'm not a writer and finished school at the age of 17. I wanted to write these stories down for posterity, somewhere safe to keep them other than my mind or a hard drive.
