BIG NEWS: OR WHERE DID THE STORIES GO?

I had to remove all of my stories here, except for the ones that BruceK and I did together. Even that may have to go, and I'll be contacting the very princely Bruce shortly about that. I have to check out my Lacy Cornwall account, too. Anything Broomfield-related needs to go.

I've been a published author for awhile. Some of it self-published, some of it published by a small press whose name I cannot mention right now, for legal reasons. This has been the way my stuff has always worked: I passed it by the publishing house first, and if they turned it down, I could self-publish. I have some stuff published there under a pseudonym, but they have always passed on the Broomfield's Box stuff. I don't know why. It wasn't perfect, but I felt it was better than what they did publish. This has turned out to be a blessing. Because they never took any of the BB stuff, I have no contract with them on that. I am, therefore, free to self-publish it or to shop it around.

On Wednesday of this week, I will be signing a contract with a publisher for the Broomfield's Box stories. All of them. I knew (hoped) this was coming and kind of jumped the gun on starting the rewrite. The publisher wants some MAJOR rrewriting on all of them. They have to be longer, they have to be better. Under the terms of the contract, I can use certain websites to post the stories for peer review. Unfortunately, Booksie is not on that list of websites. That's because Booksie can be searched. It has to be on a website that requires a person to join to see it, so it doesn't show up in search engines. So I'm sorry, no more Broomfield's Box here. Other stuff will still appear, but Quentin, Lacy, Thea, and the gang are gone, for now.

My stuff on Amazon will have to disappear too, at least for now. That's gonna hurt, financially, but only a little. I never made a lot out of it, anyway.

Publishing is a funny business, and while I make more, per book, by self-publishing, I will hopefully make more in total by going with a publishing house, which has the resources to market my work, something I've always been lousy at doing.

My one concern is the non-Broomfield stuff. As I said, that's under a pseudonym, and by the terms of my contract with that small publishing house, they can change the author byline from "by XXXXX" to "by Teri Chetwood, writing under the name XXXXXX". What is published there, and has provided me with most of my income, is quite honestly, pretty raunchy stuff. Porn sells, and to make ends meet as a writer (although it only paid a few bills, nothing more) I was forced to dive into the world of erotica.

Not that I was drug there, kicking and screaming. Erotica can be well-written, but it was something I was always a little uncomfortable with it. I don't see such stories as being serious literature, but they provided a part of my income. Now we'll see how I do in the real world of publishing.

As I said, the books will all require a lot of rewriting. The first story is well in hand, but I have to post it elsewhere to get feedback. I'm hoping some of you will follow me to the other website to see it in its raw form, watch it grow and shape, but I can't honestly say where that is. Well, I could, but that would hardly be fair to Booksie, which has always done right by me. Those who have my email will be contacted and told. For the rest, you may ask for my email address and I'll get it to you. For everyone, thank you for the support, the reviews, and the wonderful feeling of family here on Booksie. It really is a wonderful site and it helped me get my feet wet.
