I still cant forget that day.
And Misbah-ul-Haq can never ever forget the fatal scoop shot.
Sitting at the edge of the sofa with Pakistan snatching away the victory,it seemed it was curtains for India's hopes in the inaugural T20 world cup.But destiny had other plans.
I still remember clearly the last over.It was bowled by rookie Joginder Sharma and could not stop feeling pity looking at his grimacing face.It was obvious for the eyes and expectations of one hundred twenty people were glued to that man with the ball in his hand. And what a big wide did he start with!
India's hopes seemed to have been shattered after Misbah's towering six.Pakistan was just one shot short from victory.
Only Misbah-ul-haq knows what happened to him at that time.Joginder bowled a very ordinary delivery, not that anyone expected him to hurl inswinging yorkers at Brett Lee's pace.It took only an even more ordinary shot from Misbah to gift India the victory, when he tried to show off his scoop shot, which scooped away the victory from Pakistan's basket to India.
But even Sreesanth fumbled taking the catch out of the scoop. And one twenty crores people had their mouth in their heart. What if he would have dropped the catch,he would have been the villain of Indian cricket for time immemorial. Not that his present scenario would make him feel any better!
Having taken the catch in second attempt,India had won!
Misbah lay there in the midst of the twenty two yards, cursing his instinct and action maybe.
Nail-biting finish?Much more than that for if you would have started biting your nail, you would have ended up chewing up your whole hand in such a pressure cooker match.
And as an Indian nothing feels more better than watching such a cliffhanger beating Pakistan in a World Cup final.
It has been quite some years now,but whenever I think about the last over and the scoop shot,it still sends a shiver down my spinal cord!
