Unearthing the Treasure

Novel By: AdarshGH
Action and adventure

This work of fiction revolves around six main characters who are Siddhant nicknamed as Sid, Sanjana nicknamed as Sanju, Kiran nicknamed as Kit, Deepthi nicknamed as Dips. The other two are pet animals, i.e., Jenny the dog and Rook the parrot. The story opens up as Sanjana and Sid enthusiastically return home after the end of their examinations. Soon they find their fellow adventurers, their cousins Kit (Kiran) and Dips (Deepthi) in Ooty. After many experiences in the hills they board a ship named “Swift Tides” to Australia wherein their father is stationed for an assignment. After many hiccups they land in Australia where they set off to Lake Eyre. This place has many legends, myths, stories which are presented to the children by an Australian veteran Walter Marsh. His son Ryan Marsh and these six adventurers together set out on a path of extreme difficulties and danger of finding the statue of King Eyre whose trail is also followed by a few deadly smugglers.

Can they transport the treasure into the right hands?

Can they save their own lives?

What is IADI, the secret organization working for a better tomorrow?

Can they “UNEARTH THE TREASURE”?

Through this novel, I tried to convey the message of gender equality, conformity to rule of law, non-cruelty to animals, co-operation and harmony between modern generation and the aborigines. During 2010, there were strained relations between India and Australia due to socio-cultural and racial differences between students of India and Australia. Even one of the Doctor’s from India, having faced difficulties, had to return to India and stayed back in India till the relations were normalized.

FOREWORD

It has been immense pleasure for me ever since Master Adarsh approached me to write “Foreward” to his maiden novel in English “Unearthing the Treasure” under “The Spirited Six Series”. The reason for my being pleased is that I have been approached a boy whom I know since 2003 when he was just five years old and now he has written a novel even before completion of 12 years of age! The noteworthy point is that he has done this innovative exercise in a very short period of time after completion of his VI Standard during summer vacation of 2010. As I have observed him since 2003, Master Adarsh is a exceptionally simple and lovely boy with brilliant inquisitive mind. I have seen him writing humorous couplets in English on individual’s personality whom he knows and likes. I liked very much the couplet which he wrote about me.

As the novel “Unearthing The Treasure” is his maiden one at the age of 12 years, I bless and encourage him wholeheartedly. I appreciate his ability to think of a story and express it straight from his heart and soul in a most lucid and lively manner to readers of his age in particular. His selection of six characters – two boys, two girls , a dog and parrot and narration of the whole story right from the beginning through establishment of the matrix for the climax and dealing the climax is indeed marvelous considering his age and being a beginner. I encourage him to write more short novels/stories for the benefit of the children and contributing immensely to literature. I am also confident that everyone who reads this novel will certainly like and enjoy it. I wish him all the best for his endeavour and for success of his maiden novel.

PREFACE

“Unearthing the Treasure” is my first short novel. I have written this novel just to express my ideas and my story and with the expectation that those who read it will enjoy reading the same. After reading Enid Blyton and

J.K. Rowling, I got inspiration to write short novel which is of at least some interest to all children of my age. I have written whatever I conceived when I started thinking to write a short novel. It is straight from my heart, soul and mind. The whole story is at the way in which the four children (two boys and two girls) a dog and a parrot participate and interact in the natural happennings/ situations and contribute fruitfully to the surrounding system. I hope the readers will enjoy the way the story is narrated. As this is my humble beginning, I look forward to the critical feedback from the readers (email : adarshgh57@gmail.com).

At the outset, my special respectful regards to uncle Padmashree Dr. M. Mahadevappa, who has been constant source of inspiration to me right from my childhood and for reading this novel, appreciating the same and writing the foreword. I express my sincere thanks to Shri P.B. Gaddagimath, for reading the novel as a third person and making valuable suggestions. I acknowledge Shri Rajendra Ashtagi, for his sensible and beautiful graphics that are suitable to each chapter of the novel and also for cover design. My special thanks to Shri P. Nagaraja for typing the whole manuscript and modifying the same whenever needed.

Also I remain indebted to my grandfather and parents for their constant encouragement. May be I wouldn’t have written this novel without the insistence and encouragement of my mother Smt. Lalitha. Hence, the primary credit for writing this novel should go only to my mother.

Finally, I thank the Printers. Without their involvement, this novel wouldn’t have seen the light of the day.
