Prologue

"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government"

-Edward Abbey

Dear You,

I am sorry. If you are reading this and we are still under the Warhead's control then that means that I have failed my country.

I'm writing this in the Year 2173 and I am seventeen years old. If you do not know what that means then that means we have failed and that this letter [a novel, rather] means absolutely nothing to you. However, I encourage you to read on and maybe it will inspire some sort of rebellion to save our nation. But If you do know what that means then we have succeeded and we are either rebuilding or have rebuilt the community on a stronger foundation. This will then inform you about the History Gap.

Now understand that in the gap we were never taught to write and for many generations our nation was illiterate. I am not the best of writers as you will come to know. I didn't know how to read until about a year ago so I must apologize in advance for poor spelling and grammar.

I, honestly, don't know how else to tell you the story other than just jumping in. So here we go:

There is a girl named For the sake of her life and life of her followers, I have to give you different names. Forgive me but I just can't trust you because I do not know you. You could be someone who a year from now could find this and try to expose us. So I'm going to have to change all of our names. People call her the Patriot but reading that over and over might get a little tedious so just call herEmily.

Her name is Emily and from the time she was born in 2156 she had been lied to. We all have been lied to. This nation we live in used to be called The United States of America - a glorious and powerful nation. A nation that stood for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Now, we are a disgrace and called a name that I choose never to utter or write ever again. You can call it whatever you please but I will forever call it Stigma, or Latin for disgrace and dishonor.

We used to be normal human beings just like the rest of the world - yes I said world. There are many nations surrounding us. We are not alone and though it may be a foreign concept it's one hundred percent accurate. In the year 2019, US fell into a total war [with whom - still remains unknown] causing mass destruction and fell further into debt beyond their control. They had lost the war within six months and ultimately the country lost hope. A man by the name of Arnold Ripple began meetings all over the country that resulted in long inspiring speeches. He was a very inspiring man and I bet that if had grown up with his rallies than I probably would have succumbed to the same ignorant bliss our ancestors did. He gained followers quickly because he gave them hope for a future through the depression. Sort of like Adolf Hitler after World War I which blatantly caused World War II. He formed a group called Warheads, those opposing war, that overthrew the democratic-republic government that had been established in the United States. Slowly, the Warheads formed a government in which everything would be perfect. Sure enough, in 2032, Stigma was established and isolated from the rest of the world.

Here is my last warning: If you continue to read this, your life will forever be changed. Your view on the world will never be the same and you will be forced to choose between being the USR' allies and the USR's enemies.

Choose Wisely.
