Maine

Pink. All I can see is pink as I fall back onto my bed in my new bedroom. The walls are pink, the ceiling is pink, even the carpet is pink! I don’t understand why Mom couldn’t have let my little sister Angie have this room, because it’s so much more her style than it is mine. I’m more of a blue and green type girl, and Angie loves the color pink, so why couldn’t she take this room?!

“Angie needs to be close to our bedroom in case she has any nightmares,” Mom said when I asked her. I have plenty of nightmares, Mom.  My life just happens to be one of them. I think to myself as I grab my box of belongings out of the moving van. It’s bad enough I had to leave all of my friends in Willow Falls, but now I had to lose my dignity too, to a pink princess room? That was so not cool.

"Maine! Come here quick!" I hear Angie yell from down the hallway.

“What is it, Angie?” I look at her annoyingly. She points to a piece of paper near the new dining table which is indeed pink. Why did my parents have to love antique stuff? I pick of the crumbled piece of paper and see that it’s neither of my parents or Angie. I carefully unfold it finding a little smiley face at the top of the page.

Hey! I heard you guys are our new neighbors and there’s someone my age? My name is Devon but call me Devi. I’m a 15 year-old going in the 10th grade. I live 2 doors down, and asked the moving van workers to slip this note inside. I would love to meet you! My number is 644-0987.

Sincerely,

Devi

Isn’t someone nice? I’ve moved at least to 2 different places before but I have never gotten a friendly note like this. Who knows, Devi might be my new best friend? Why do I always jump to conclusions? I fold up the note finding Angie staring at me. “What did it say?” The 7 year old asked.

“Just our new neighbors dropping by on us.” I say as a smile spreads across my face. Maybe this will be a new life for me, to start over and maybe even be popular? Well, there’s still two weeks till school starts. Might as well call Devi.

Not until I eat that piece of chocolate cake that’s sitting on the dining table just staring at me. How did that get there?

A/N* I'm pretty much new here so if you can give me feedback that would be more than amazing! Remember to leave a KMU if you want to be updated =D
