Chapter 1 - Surprise!
I wake up, turn around to look at my clock, which was annoyingly ringing out loud...
'Shit! I'm late!'
I run around the house trying to get everything ready. Hardly anything was ever ready here, I mean, a dad who's hardly ever home and a brother that is pretty much always busy in his room doing projects. And so, since my dad's hardly at home, I'm usually stuck with big bro. Well, at least he's sensible because the closest you can get to 'normal' in our house is him, so I don't have to worry. Talking about my mum is a touchy subject for me so no one ever mentions her around me these days, unless they're asking for a good punch in their face.
I was about to leave the house with my buttered toast in my mouth when I remembered that there was a picnic at school today. I ran back upstairs to get the food (chocolate and sweets) I had prepared and rushed to school.
Oh, I forgot to introduce myself.
Hi, my name's Amber and I'm 15 years old. We're still in the middle of our school year so it's not that exciting. Nothing is exciting anymore these days.
This morning, everything also happened as usual, I play, I get scolded for no reason, I fall asleep during class, forget to do my homework for the lesson etc. But there was one thing that everyone was looking forward to today as it happened only once a year.
The school picnic on the field outside.
My school is called 'Kimpten Girls' School', unluckily, it's a girls only school... But I used to always try my hardest to get a boyfriend Well, apart from the fact that I never confess and when I did, I kinda got rejected (although my friends all say I didn't). I guess a love life isn't on my list right now...
'Line up now! We're going outside.' Everyone was talking about it as we lined up. Apparently, this year was going to be even more special. That was a bit surprising considering the fact that Ms Leptiz -our head teach- is so cruel towards us most of the time.
We walked, or you could say we rushed, to the outside field, many people were already there. We sat in a circle with our foods and just poured/threw food from our plastic bags into the centre. As soon as Ms Leptiz finished her long and boring speech, we all grabbed something from the centre, I got crisps, shame, I was hoping to get something chocolatey.
Everything was happening as normal, there was no big change or anything from last year. It seems that I wasn't the only one thinking like that. May other people were turning around to glance at the head teacher a few times, some were just sneaking glances hoping that she was hiding something whilst others just stared at her with a you-lied-and-got-us-all-excited-for-nothing-ugh look. I couldn't care less now. She just proved my point that teachers aren't to be trusted. That was the last time I would trust her, unless she did something. And she started walking towards the stadium. Creepy. Either that was pure coincidence or she can hear our minds. Nah, that's not possible. She coughed so that she could get all of our attention.
'It seems that you all are disappointed that there is nothing special.'
Hell yeah, you got that right.
'But don't fret,'
How old fashioned. Fret. Ugh.
'they will be arriving soon.'
....They? Who's sane enough to willingly come to this crap hole called a school!? Wow. Never thought that someone would. Everyone was whispering about this. Among the people, I could hear
'Do you think it's gonna be a celebrity?'
In your dreams.
'I heard from someone that the past head teachers would come in and give us a long boring speech...'
'I bet that for the teachers it's something that's great for them but crap for us.'
Agreed.
'Silence!' We all hushed and turned to face her yet again. 'When they arrive, I do not expect any misbehaviour from any of you. That includes no more eating and talking. You may carry on.'
"You may carry on"!? Who does she think she is!? What, our dictator? I hate people who think that other people are scum and aren't needed. Here's one reason why. My mother's death was caused by people like her.
Annoyed, I eat my crisps, trying to make it as annoying as possible (eating them really loudly).
'Want some?' Asked a voice next to me. It was Bianca, a great friend of mine. People say 'BF', 'best friend' but it sounds a bit mushy to me, so I stick with friend, but then, all my friends are 'best friends' to me.
I look down to see what she was offering. Chocolate. Sweet. I took a big chunk (not too big).
After stuffing it all into my mouth, I mumbled 'Thanks,' Then I swallowed it all. 'How did ya know that I was annoyed?'
'Anyone would be.' She bit a bit of her chocolate, 'You may carry on, meh meh meh.' She said in this high pitched annoying voice. Everyone who heard it couldn't resist laughing.
'Haha, true...'
'OW!' I laughed even harder when I saw what had happened, 'Who did that!?' Bianca turned around to see.
Callum looked down at her innocently, 'What? ...Oh, are you accusing me!? I am so offended that you would suspect your older brother to smack your head. I was just walking by!' He wasn't tricking anyone with that terrible acting of his but after a long moment of Bianca eyeing him, she turned back around to eat her chocolate.
'CALLUM!!!' He had hit her again and was on the run, Bianca had already stood up and was chasing him around the field. They were running around as if they were the only people here. Because they were the only people stood up (no one had finished eating yet) everyone was looking at their direction. Callum was a year older than Bianca and they were almost like twins most of the time.
'OW! Look where your going you.......' He never finished that sentence as he looked up. Mr Ardon was looking down at him, you could see that his face was all red and literally ready to explode.
'GOTCHA! Now I'm gon-'
*COUGH*
'Oh... Hello Mr Ardon, how are you? Umm, you're looking a bit red today...' I don't think that helped at all Bianca, you're making him redder, haha. 'OH! A flying thing!' She desperately pointed up to the sky, hoping to distract him.
To my surprise, he actually turned around and exclaimed, 'Have they arrived now? That was earlier than expected!'
Really? Oh, so the people who are coming are going to arrive by a helicopter or some other flying transport. Cool. Mr Ardon stayed there searching the sky, but he soon realised that he was tricked and when he turned around expecting to see the two 'mischievous' siblings, Bianca and Callum had already ran away.
'STAY RIGHT THERE!' He yelled, and started chasing after them. Now that wasn't a sight you'd see everyday, a teacher chasing two students, it was like a comedy show. Sadly, it didn't last for a long time, other teacher came to help him and once Bianca and Callum were caught, they were given a long lecture about boring stuff and after that, Bianca came back grinning like an idiot.
'Did you see his face? It was so funny! We were only caught because we were laughing too much, hahaha.' She sat back down next to me and drank almost the whole bottle of lemonade.
I lean back and look up at the sky searching for any sign of the people who are about to come. Luckily, today was a clear day with little blobs of clouds floating around. I saw a little dot up in the sky.
I had originally assumed that it was just a bird but it was getting bigger and bigger like it was falling but the thing was still moving around. I tugged at Bianca's jumper.
'What?'
I kept on looking up. Eventually, she also looked up.
'What the hell is that!?'
'I guess they're arriving. I wonder who they are.'
Now this time, everyone in our form looked up which caused a chain reaction where, in the end, everyone was looking up.
'Oh my god! What is that?'
'I don't like it. It's grey and blue. Everything needs to be pink!'
Ugh. PINK. She needs to grow up.
'Does anyone know what this is!? I want to use it for my next science project!'
Typical for a nerd...
'Give me my camera! I'll definitely get an A* for my art!'
'Umm, I hope it's not gonna land right here and kill us all...' Almost everyone turned and shouted something similar to 'SHUT UP!' To her. Well, that was nice of her. Now I'm expecting to die. Yey.
Hold on, doesn't that thing look like an...?
Ms Leptiz calmly said, 'It seems that they have arrived now.'
Woah. It was.
It flew around in a circle one last time before it landed in the middle of our field, killing no one.
Someone screamed.
'IT'S A U.F.O.!!!'
