The police and coroner came as soon as the phone calls came in. All residents on the strip heard the gunshot and called it in. Brandon and Megan held their daughter tightly in their arms as the police took down the report. Alan sat in a squad car handcuffed.
Sergeant Nichols came over to the couple and shook their hands. 'Hello, folks. I'm glad to see you as a family once again.' Brandon looked down at his daughter, snoozing, and replied,
"So are we, Sergeant. I have to ask, though, is Alan going to be charged with anything?" Sergeant Nichols sighed and answered, 'Brandon, I'm not sure yet. He shot Ted Thatcher point-blank in the chest...' Megan jumped in to defend Alan.
"Yes, but Sergeant, he was defending not only himself but all of us! He's a hero." Sergeant Nichols looked over to her and smiled. 'Yes he is, Ma'am. Don't get your hopes up but I'm about 99% sure he'll walk away a free man.' He then patted Adriana's head and walked away.
One Month later...
"Is that everything from the bedroom, Babe?" Megan asked holding Adriana protectively. Brandon came out carrying six boxes on a dolley. "Yep, now that's everything from the whole house." He grabbed Megan's hand and placed his other hand gently on Adriana's head. "Let's go start a new life." Right as they were getting in the car, a black mustang pulled up into their driveway.
"Hey! Are you really leaving without saying goodbye to the man who saved ya'lls baby??" Megan and Brandon laughed and met Alan over at his car. Brandon shook his hand and then brought him into a bro-hug. "How have you been, felon?" He asked jokingly.
Megan hugged Alan, also and asked, "Is there anyway we can repay you, Alan?" Alan smiled and said, "Nah. Just seeing you guys with your beautiful baby again is enough."
Brandon patted his back and replied, "Well, listen, that's not enough for me so why don't you pack your bags and go stay at our beach house for a couple weeks?"
Alan made a face like an excited three-year old and exclaimed, "Really?! I can go?!" Brandon and Megan laughed and nodded. After they talked for a few more minutes they all three got back in the cars and prepared to start new lives.
As Megan drove, Brandon laid his head back and thought to himself: "No matter the cost, No matter what it takes, I will protect my wife." Then, he turned and looked in the backseat and whispered, "And I will protect you"
