A life wasted, is not a life worth living.
A life chased, is not a life worth living.
But a life fulfilled, that's another matter altogether, what is a life fulfilled? Who gets to be that judge?
Who really gets to have the final say on the matter?
Elliott Paris often wondered that, a twenty three year old man, no job, No girlfriend, no ambitions and no family.
Well no related family.
Elliott had avoided the infection that plagued the earth and its inhabitants six years ago, he remembers it well, as do most who are alive today.
A normal day was passing, people just doing what people do best, getting on with life in late November.
November the 22nd, 2016, 12.55, Elliott recalls the time well due to smashing his alarm clock of his bedside table that he had chosen to ignore from eight that morning. The constant buzzing and beeping had finally won, With despise he got up, opened his curtains and stopped.... He just stopped moving making no noise, not even noise for breathing, for a few moments he just stood there staring though the glass.
Elliott observed the sky that was obscure with a thick green substance that could only be referred to as rain, falling into the city. It stuck to the roads, buildings people and cars causing panic everywhere. It rained this substance for three days straight with warnings on the TV to stay inside, relentlessly repeated, a good job to. The rain decayed everything it touched, infected skin of the victims it landed on, rusted cars, darkened the walls and roofs of the buildings it had beaten against, distorted the roads and pavements with ease almost as if it was acid. Unlike acid the substance did not burn though stuff, it just steamed off it like gas evaporating into the air.
Weeks passed before the president of Nestlander spoke. Then one afternoon President O'Shane spoke for the first and last time. Elliott almost wished he didn't, the news was far from joyful,
"Hello, I... I have not planned a speech", "I.... I have no governmental obligation to tell you". "The story's you hear about the mutants", "the people", "i don't know what to call them" he spoke remorsefully, " I say this with real regret, These people have been vaccinated over and over, we have tested everything at our grasp."
He took a long breath then looked straight into the camera, into the eyes of the public and said with a harsh voice, " There is no cure, those infected are going to get worst, our top scientists predictions show unspeakable mutations", "I.... I.. I guess what really is being said", is that we the government are shutting down. there is nothing we can do that is humane I...."
That was the last words of the president before all the power was cut off in the cites of Nestlander, abandoning hope and humanity altogether.
Elliott was only 17 at the time, his parents had been outside when the rain fell, not to long after President O'shane said the last words. The people of Nestlander started out casting the infected, The obvious infected went first, followed by the more resistant but still diseased people. Elliott's Mum and Father fell in that category, like any normal person would they resisted against the uninfected townsfolk, hid in there house keeping out of peoples way. They lasted only thirteen days, sadly their neighbors knew they had been exposed and with that knowledge they informed gangs and ran Elliott's parents along with others out of there homes into the decayed city that was once a fine place to live, now a mess, a Hell would be a nice way of putting it. This is what started the hate between the mutants and humans. Forget the humane way of life.
There is no second option. You fight to survive. Banned together, or just give up.
