My mother woke me up at 6.00 this morning with a look of sheer excitement on her face so I sat up groggily and looked at her with my eyes half closed. “Why are you getting me up so early mum?” Asked wanting to know why she had got me up and what she was so excited about because she had never been this happy since my father left us two years ago. “Well Maree I have been paying for a house up in Port Macquarie which I just finished paying off and we are moving there straight away.” She said with a huge smile on her face I then started smiling too. “That is great mum I will get dressed and then start packing alright.” I said this is going to be great I will get more friends it will be awesome I wonder what the house looks like. “Thank you darling and when you have finished packing your things can you help Joel pack his things for me?” She asked once I had nodded my head yes she left my room. I got dressed into a t-shirt with a wolf pack on it, a red skirt and a pair of red and white joggers. When I was dressed I got all of the boxes that mum had left inside my door then I put all of my books into the biggest taped it up and wrote Maree’s books on the side so that they knew it was mine. I then put my television, digital set top box and DVD player back into their original boxes. I put all of my shirts that would fit into two of the remaining four boxes. Then I put all of my pants and skirts into the remaining boxes. When I done all of that I got my 5 suitcases out of my closet then I put my dresses, bra’s, underwear and stockings into 3 of them. The second last one was filled with all of my cases of makeup, boxes of jewellery, mirrors, hair ties, hair clips, hairbrushes, shampoo and conditioner. And the last one was filled up with all of my joggers, sandals and high heels. My camera, laptop, portable DVD player, DSI, PSP, and iPod were all put into my backpack. Once I had finished up in my room I called my friends quickly, told them the news and said goodbye. Then I put my phone, purse, lip gloss, mascara and eyeliner into my hand bag. When I walked into Joel's bedroom I saw that he was almost finished so I just helped him finish his packing when it was done we both walked downstairs and into the dining room/kitchen mum had already cooked bacon, eggs, sausages and toast for breakfast so we sat down and ate. As soon as we finished it we brought all of our bags and boxes downstairs and put them into the back of my stepfathers the only bags we put into the car were mine and Joel’s backpacks. We also put our pillows and blankets in the car as the removalists were already at our house we went back in to help them load all of our furniture onto their truck. Once they had left we mum, Joel and I got into the car while my stepfather Barry got into his truck and we drove away from our old house as we were pulling out onto the road Joel and I looked back at our house we were sad to leave it as we had lived there our whole lives but we were also excited because we were going up to port Macquarie to live there. We had always loved it when we would go there on the holidays when mum and dad were still together but we hadn’t been there since they got a divorce. Joel had already started watching some movie on his portable DVD player thankfully with the earphones plugged in so we couldn’t hear it. “This is going to be awesome mum I will get to make lots of new friends. I will also be able to Lyell, Daniel, Dennis and Chris again they will be so happy that we have moved and they will be able to see us every day.” I told mum they were the main reason that I was excited because they are my older brothers and I hadn’t seen them since last holidays. I could tell that was one of the reasons that she had decided to move there. It was quite a pleasant surprise for Joel and I because I knew he missed them too. “Yes I knew that you would like it. Do you want to get anything to eat? There is a McDonalds just up ahead we will go through the drive through.” She asked me I smiled at her because I was hungry as it was now 1.00 and we had eaten breakfast at 8.15 it was like she could read minds. “Sure mum can I have a quarter pounder and a chocolate Sundae?”I turned around pressed pause on the DVD player and pulled one of the earphones out of Joel’s ear. “Do you want a quarter pounder and sundae from McDonalds Joel?” I asked him once he nodded I turned back to the front and pulled my wallet out of my handbag and pulled out a twenty dollar note. “I will pay for it mum.” I told her as I handed the money to her. Once she had payed for the food and got it we were back on the road again Joel and I ate our food in no time. I realised that I was very tired because of how early I was woken up this morning so I leaned my seat back a bit, closed my window and fell asleep I woke up an hour later it was about 2.15 so I pulled my mobile out of my bag and called Rowan because we were boyfriend and girlfriend but little did I know that was going to change as soon as he answered his phone. “Hi Rowan I miss you heaps how are you going?” I asked him while I was waiting for him to answer I heard a girl in the background say ‘tell her babe’ my breath caught in my throat. “There is something I need to tell you Maree it is over I have a new girlfriend.” He said to me I was stunned but at the same moment I knew he had been cheating on me. “You know what don’t try to explain I can tell you have been seeing Danielle behind my back. I am now even happier that my mother made the decision for us to move I have a message for you ‘DON”T EVER SPEAK TO ME AGAIN!” I yelled into the phone before I hung up I deleted everything to do with him off my phone and put it back into my hand bag. “What is wrong Maree?” mum asked me I looked over at her with tears in my eyes. “Rowan has been cheating on me we just broke up so I have deleted everything to do with him off my phone and I am not talking to him ever again.” I told her it was now 2.30 and we were a quarter of the way to port Macquarie I was getting bored again so I pulled out my DSI and started playing super Mario carts 2. I played it for three hours before the battery went flat. Mum got us KFC for dinner at 5.30 and again we ate in the car as she was driving. Half an hour after I was finished my dinner I turned around to ask Joel for my backpack which was right behind me but saw that he was fast asleep. “Mum can you pull over to the side of the road next time you get the chance to so that I can get my backpack and also cover Joel over because it is getting cold and he is asleep?” I asked her as soon as she pulled over to the side of the road I got out covered Joel over with his duvet then I got by backpack and got back into my seat and closed my door. Once mum started driving again I pulled my laptop out of my backpack and started playing it. First I played gold miner which I got up to level 12 on it before I died then I played super Mario bro’s for another two hours I called my best friend Merinda. “Hi Merinda what are you doing at the moment?” I asked her while I put my internet USB into the USB slot of my laptop and going on to the internet so that I could write an email to my father to tell him that we had moved to port Macquarie. “Not much guess what rowan called me a couple of hours ago telling me that you had broken up with him so I told him not to talk to me and that the only reason I talked to him was because you were going out with him. Why did you break up with him anyway?” she asked me I looked down at my laptop. “Well I called him up because I wanted to talk to him and I heard Danielle talking in the background I heard her say to him ‘tell her babe’ so he told me that he was going out with another girl. So I yelled at him and told him not to speak to me ever again I have also deleted everything to do with him off my phone when I am done sending this email to my father I will be deleting everything of his off my laptop too I hate his guts now.” I said to her my voice dripping with anger over it as I sent the email to my father. “Wow that sucks but don’t worry you will probably meet a guy that won’t cheat on you and will love you to death when you get to port Macquarie. When you do can you tell me about him alright well I have to go because it is time to go to bed but I will talk to you tomorrow morning alright lot of love bye.” She said once I had said good bye I hung up the phone. You may think it is weird that we say we love each other but it is not because my best friend is also my mother’s daughter but she has a different father to me so she is my step-sister. “Maree can you drive the rest of the way there because I know you are not tired but I am please?” she asked me I am 16 years old and have my driver’s licence I could tell that she was sleepy so I put my laptop back into my bag and put it on the floor behind me. “Sure mum pull over so that we can change seats.” So she pulled over to the side of the road we both swapped seats and I drove back onto the road it was now 9.00pm and we were about 3 hours away from there after another half hour I pulled into the service station. Woke them both up and told them if they needed to go to the bathroom to do it while I filled up the petrol tank. They both walked into the service stations bathrooms once I had finished filling up I went in got three bottles of lemonade, three mars bars and payed for them as well as the petrol. Once I was in the driver’s seat I handed mum and Joel their mars bars and drinks. I ate my mars bar and had some of my drink before driving off again I turned the radio onto the edge so that I could listen to music. I drove the rest of the way there while the other two slept when I got to port Macquarie two and a half hours later I woke mum up so that she could tell me where to go. When we got to the house the movers and Barry had already put all of the stuff into the rooms. Joel was still asleep in the car so after asking them which room was his I went outside got him out of the car, carried him upstairs into his bedroom and put him on his bed. I walked back downstairs grabbed all the boxes full of my things and took them all upstairs into my bedroom. I put them all away into their correct places, put all of my suitcases onto the top shelf of my built in closet and put all of my toiletries into my own personal bathroom which had a toilet, a sink with an overhead mirror, a claw foot tub and a separate shower. When I was finished I walked back downstairs got Joel’s stuff and put it all into his room. Then I went into my bathroom had a shower walked into my closet got dressed into my pyjamas and went to bed. My alarm woke me up at 6.00 the next morning for school so I went into my bathroom and had a bath washing my hair with my vanilla hair products. Then I washed the rest of my body with my vanilla body wash then I got out of the bath wrapped a towel around my hair and another towel around the rest of my body while I was getting dry I brushed my teeth. Once I was done I got dressed into my red dress with diamantes around the top of it, my navy blue tights, long white socks and my red high heeled boots. Then I brushed my hair and pulled it back into a ponytail putting on my red headband. The reason why I dressed in those clothes was because I wanted to make a good impression at my new school. I put on some mascara, lipgloss and eyeliner then I pulled everything out of my backpack except for my laptop. I put my exercise books, wallet and mobile phone into it then I went downstairs. When I walked into the kitchen I saw that mum was making blueberry pancakes for breakfast when she gave me mine I ate them very quickly then I grabbed my lunch and stuffed it into my backpack when I saw that mum was ready to take me to school I walked to the front door. The reason why she was taking me to school this early was so that she could sign the enrolment forms to make sure that I was enrolled before school started. Once she had filled out the necessary forms and left the principal Mrs Freeman introduced me to a boy named Daniel who was in all of my classes. “Maree this is Daniel Matthews, Daniel this is Maree Pullen she has just moved here from Mount Druitt because you are in her class I expect you to be nice to her and show her around the school off you go.” She said to us in a very strict voice so Daniel started to show me around the school until the bell for first class went. I hadn’t got the chance to buy myself a student time table so Daniel led me to our first period of the day which was rollcall and we had it every morning as our first class because it was compulsory at this school. As soon as we walked in the door the teacher came over to us and smiled at me so I smiled back at her. “Good morning Mrs Cullen this is Maree Pullen she has just moved here from Mount Druitt and has been put into this class. She hasn’t got a timetable yet.” Daniel said to Mrs Cullen
