Prologue
Dust. And heat. The first things I noticed when I became conscious. I sat up, wheezing, trying to breathe oxygen when there wasn't any. Crying. I heard crying. Turning, I saw Kyndra, my old babysitter's 5 year old daughter. She was lying face down on the dusty ground, shaking with sobs that only I can hear.Trembling, I gathered her up in my arms, saying "It's okay," over and over again, when it may be a lie. I turned my head left and right, wondering where to go. My vision was met with only wind picking up dust. There was nothing. I looked skyward to find it was red, with 3 suns in the sky. Wiping sweat out of my eyes, I walked towards north, hoping I can find us somewhere to go other than this empty, barren desert.
