In the distance I see a slowly moving shape
A blackened shadow on the dark gray air
Barely visible but it draws my instincts towards it
I circle towards it swiftly, but silently
An assassin moving in with a mouth full of daggers
Across the frigid white ash sand

As I move in it's shape takes more detail
I make out the legs and the horns
On this slender but perfectly balanced beast
I begin to salivate
I love a challenge
Something that will be provided by this healthy, majestic creature

I circle back and forth towards him
As I cut off angles putting my opponent against the ropes
The ones I've drawn in my mind at the openings in the ice behind him
The wind howls and cuts at me, but my senses are primed for the task at hand

The great elk nibbles on some ragged foliage
A small tree that didn't last to mature
Eyes moving back and forth
Heart beating quickly
Muscles tensed with reflex
He thought he heard something
But he was mistaken
I am a frozen rock, a pile of the debris dotting the landscape
I do not move
My heart barely beats

Narrowing my eyes to pinpoint his neck
I am the gun
He is in my sights

I fein slipping
A sudden noise to focus on in front of his face
Then in an instant pivot and angle towards his back
He lifts a hoof to run
But I carve his neck with a smile on my lips like a twisted clown
Ending him
He is over I am the curtain weighing down on his stage
Breaking his neck and tearing his flesh with murderous lust
As a child treats an animal
As if I didn't know any better

My children's stomachs are aching
I am the provider this is the only way I know
