Saturday

It was a perfect Saturday for Rugby on the main field of the Churchie School. The sun was shinning, the crows squawking and the blue and grey army screaming and cheering.

?The under 13 A team was playing a strong Brisbane.Boys.Collage team for the Grand final. B.B.C had not lost one match all year and were defiantly the favorites.

?

There mustn't be much longer to go thought Danny Savage a tall, blonde haired boy and the captain and the star player of the team. It was the last half and Churchie was losing 23 to 25, with only one minute remaining. Nerves swept through the crowd. BBC had the ball 60 meters from there try line. They past the ball wide and Danny Savage jumped to the chance. Intercepting the ball, he sprinted out of trouble and down the field. It was an amazing break the crowd went silent. In Danny's imaginative mind he could hear the music from chariots of fire ringing in his head. He smiled to himself as he crossed the try line and placed the ball down. The Churchie crowd jumped in the air and cheered as they waved there arms while the B.B.C crowd sat down and looked blank.

"Blue and grey",

"Blue and grey". The Churchie crowd sang.

"Burrrr!" The siren sounded and the crowd cheered louder than thought possible. Churchie had won the grand final. It was like one of those old good overcoming evil movies, but really it was Churchie over coming B.B.C.

He's jumped up into the air and bumped his fist as he raised them into the air. His team mates ran up to him, patting him on the back and giving him high fives. They all had cheery expressions across their faces. "You did it Danny, you won the game" said one of Danny's best friends William Everet.

?

Will was small, had brown hair and was, pardon the expression fat. Nobody questioned that not Danny, not one teacher, not even San-Joe-Tan. Being small and fat isn't the most handsome shape and many of the school jerks called him "Pug Boy". Although he was always being teased he managed to have a great attitude, one that Danny really liked.

?

As Danny's teammates kept cheering Danny saw another familiar face. It was another of his best friends, it was James Highland.

?

James had known Danny for over 5 years and was like a brother. He was average height for his age and had no hair because of the chemotherapy that he had just had to fight his cancer. He wasn't in Danny's team but couldn't help but be there to cheer him on.

?

So Danny had won the grand final for Churchie and as the team walked of the field his teammates lifted him onto there shoulders and walked him off like a king on his thrown.

?

When everyone had cleared the ground Danny and his friends walk together to the car park were there parents were waiting for them. They walk past the grand stand and as they turned onto the road the B.B.C coach was standing there looking angry and upset. Danny being polite said "see you later sir" and was greeted back with "get out of here before I do something you'll regret". The friends were more shocked than they were offended and kept walking as the coach had asked them to.

So the day ended on a weird note and one that would fully explain itself in the next few days.

Monday

"Ding dong!" the bell to end the day echoed through the classroom. Danny Savage who was sitting in the back row was suddenly filled with joy and happiness that the day was over and he could go home to the beautiful smells of the food his mum had cooked, the warmth of his single bed, the amazing environment of the park down the road and the thing he looked forward to the most the big, oval, red A.F.L ball. Even though Danny was a star rugby player his true love lay with the red Sherrin. The class was dismissed and Danny, Will and James made there way to their lockers, they got their bags and the three friends headed home.

?

They crossed the school grounds and passed close to Norman creek.

?

Norman creek was a long creek that ran through Churchie. It had many mangroves and was as muddy as a mud pie mixed with water. Danny was scared of that creek he always thought that something was going to jump out of it and eat him. Well nothing ate him but the midges bit like starving piranhas.

?

To get home Danny had to cross a bridge that went over Norman creek, cross some soccer fields named the smith fields??

And then walk down the street that ran of the fields and he was home.

?

As Danny and his two friends crossed the bridge they heard a weird rumbling that sounded more like a motor bike pulling a house then anything else, but it had to be a boat because it was coming from down Norman creek.

?

"What's that Danny?" Will asked?

"I don't know but I am going to see." And with that Danny was off heading down to the muddy banks of Norman creek.

Danny's two friends tried stopping him but they knew nothing could stop Savage when he was determined.

?

Danny, James and Will walked down the banks of Norman creek towards the rumbling sound. James covered his nose as the stench of the thick muddy air engulfed his face. Their black school shoe's turned brown from the muddy soil and there legs had red bites all over them from the hungry midges. It was a painful walk but Danny was driven by the need to find out where the sound was coming from.

The rumbling got loader with every step they took. Danny knew if he got caught by a teacher walking down Norman creek that he and friends would definitely get a Friday detention.

As the rumbling got very loud and almost unbearable it suddenly stopped. Danny and his friends walked and then they found the source of the rumbling sound. There almost hidden in the bushes was an old boat and behind that another boat was hidden. Danny looked to see if anyone was there and when he saw no one he signaled for his friends to come closer to the boats.

Will looked at the first boat, while James looked at the other one behind it. Will and James made three very important discoveries

They called Danny over to inspect the discoveries

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

Discovery 1: A page from a diary

???? ??????

? ?

?

Discovery 2: A letter written to the writers mum

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

Discovery 3: A Brisbane.Boys.Collage Teachers I.D card.

?

?

?

?

?

?

Danny looked at the first discovery and Danny tried to read it but was stopped by muddy spots smudged on the piece of paper.

Danny read the diary page out loud.

"Saturday the 1st of June 2008.

I am nearly ready to arrive on the banks on Norman creek today and my plan to k" after k the rest of the word was covered in mud. He continued "m" again another smudge. "It could be anything." Said James "yes but anyway, Danny keep going" replied Will "The next word starts with H E but then again it is smudge." Danny complained. ?

James started guessing "Health, H.P.E, Headmaster" wait that's it" Danny said "The M word is Mr. and H word is are principal's name Hensman"

"Something beginning with K happening to Mr. Hensman" Will stated.

"And look down here" said James "there is a smudge and then day, so it will be one of the days of the weeks. It then talks about something taking place on this hidden day."

?

"So the whole diary page is about something happening to Mr. Hensman on a hidden day" Danny said and the friends agreed with that.

?

?

?

?

?

Danny then looked at the letter

This time James read it out. "It says" James started

"Dear mother

I am writing to you to tell you about what will happen in the next couple of M, Mo, Mon, Months. I won't be seeing you and I have decided to go ahead with my plan of." The next word was covered in mud. So he skipped to the next word. On the he, hen, Hensman family. Do not try to stop me it's my life." James finished.

?

"Danny It's mostly about something happening to Mr. Hensman and his family again" Will said alarmed "yes, but what is happening to Mr. Hensman" Danny wondered.

?

Finally William looked at the I.D card.

"It's a B.B.C teacher's card" Will told Danny who was crouched behind him. "Yes and It's a sport teacher" exclaimed James pointing to H.P.E written under teacher.

"What do you think azrap is?" James asked

"Probably some letters in the teacher's last name" Danny guessed.

"James where is Will by the way?" asked Danny

"Guys get over here" Will yelled from behind a big, tall bush.

James and Danny ran over to William. There they saw a very mysterious path of footprints fossilized in the mud.

?

?

?

Danny, Will and James followed the trail of footsteps which lead them through the most difficult and treacherous terrain of the Norman creek banks it lead them through thick mangroves and big bushy trees and scrubs. Along the way William couldn't hold his weight in an awkward position and slipped going head first into the rotten, muddy floor of the banks. Finally the footsteps ended and there in front of them was a big house boat with a marina coming from the boat to the shore. It was old and very rusty. It was made of tin and Danny could see little holes in the side of the house. The three friends moved closer to the boat house and then they saw movement inside it as a dark figure passed by the window. They jumped quickly into a bush and hid they looked hard at the figure and all that they saw was a logo on what looked like the jacket of the man.

It was a logo of a popular men's brand of clothes called Blaze.

?

The three friends waited in the bushes until the figure moved from the window.

"Meet me at school tomorrow" Danny ordered

"Why?" James asked

"Because something is happening on Norman creek, something that I don't think is good at all."

Then after one final check to see if the coast was clear Danny, Will and James made there way home.

Tuesdays

?Coorparoo junior football club was on the other side of Norman creek exactly opposite Churchie. It was an A.F.L club, a school field, a training ground for the Brisbane Lions and many other things. The A.F.L club went from

Under 8 to Under 16 and Jason Dunstall and Albert Proud both came from the club to play in the big league.

Danny savage played for Coorparoo in the Under 14's, so did James and William. They trained on Tuesday and Thursday and there coach was called Bill Bushy.

As Danny made his way over to the training area James and William ran over to him. "Danny where were you today at school you said for us to meet you." James said

"Danny how can we meet you if your not there" Will agreed.

"Look I forgot I was going to a day lecture for middle school leaders, I'm sorry." Danny apologized

"We will talk after training"

So when the whole team assembled they started training.

First with 20 meter kick to kick

Second hand balls

Third tackling drill

Fourth contested marking

And fifth a fun miniature game

As Danny and his friends were walking to the car park where their parents would pick them up, they saw the grounds man Wayne talking to a familiar man.

With a logo on his jacket that caught Danny's eye. It was a blaze logo the same as the one they saw on the man in the boat house.

?

?

"Danny isn't that the B.B.C rugby coach who was coaching when we won." William said

"Yes it is" replied Danny.

"That angry old fart" James scoffed

"What is he hear for?" will asked

The man then walked away and Wayne was left alone.

"Let's go and see" Danny said. They walked over to Wayne and Wayne greeted them with a friendly smile.

"Hello Danny how are you"

"I am good Wayne and you"

"Good"

"Just a quick question what did that man ask you about" said James.

"Wow why do you want to know that? It could be private info you know."

"Wayne just tell us" Danny commanded

"Ok, he asked me about Mr. Hensman, when he is alone where he lives a lot about him really."

"Thanks Wayne" Danny said and then turned to his friends

"Meet me at the school library tomorrow afternoon. This rugby coach has got to be our number one suspect now"

The friends split up and went home ready for tomorrow's long school day.??? ????????

Wednesday

Wednesday started off sweet for the friends. The sun was shinning when they went to the morning house assembly. They then went to H.P.E where Danny got recognized by their sports teacher Mr. Stalling for his grand final winning try. It was in the afternoon when things looked really bad it started raining heavily and the Churchie fields got flooded. The day seemed to move very slowly as year 8 were kept inside. The final bell rang and Danny keeping his promise jogged to the library. He got there and he was literally as wet as a water feature. He walked into the library copping disgust and mean looks from the librarians, you know how librarians are. In fact he had only been to the library once a week. He tried to avoid it at all costs. He had a bad time with the library. He had been hated by the librarians ever since he knocked over a shelf sending books flying like superman, completely ruining them. Anyway Danny had to do this. He had to find out who was doing something to Mr. Hensman.

When James and Will came running in Danny said hello and they got started.

?"What do we need to know first?" Said William

"I think we need to know some of the history and stuff about the school and principals of it." Danny answered.

"I've heard of a good book About Churchie" James said

"It's called 'The history of Churchie year's 1947-2006'."

The friends stalked the selves until they found it.

They then took the book and all three sat down at the table and read. They found out that Mr. Hensman was some how related to an earlier principal of the school Mr. H E Roberts.

"Nothing useful" Danny cursed frustrated.

?Then as William was flicking through the pages he found an interesting story.

"Look" Will yelled "in 1956 the principal Mr. H E Roberts and a builder called Mr. S M Hensman went to court over the murder of Jack Mazrap, a B.B.C teacher."

"Mazrap that was the name on the B.B.C card"

Danny replied

"Ok we have got to look up a couple of things on the internet. Let's log on, James look up the Mazrap family and the B.B.C website, William you look up about Mr. Hensman and his family and H E Roberts and I will write it down and review the information.

The three friends spread out across three computers all looking for there subject.

As they searched James and William found some very important information.

?

?

?

?

?

?

James found out:Mazrap ancestors fought for the Turks in the crusades Mazrap ancestors fought against the Anzacs at Gallipoli?in world war oneGreg Mazrap went to school with Jonathon HensmanHe is a teacher at B.B.C. his name is Greg Mazrap. He is a H.P.E teacher and coaches the 13 A rugby team.???William found out:Hensman ancestors fought for the crusaders in the crusades.Mr. Hensman went to the same school as Greg?Mazrap and?Bullied GregMr. Hensman beat Greg Mazrap to be principal at ChurchieMr. H E Roberts and a builder called Mr. S M Hensman went to court over the murder of jack Mazrap. They were found not guilty even though the evidence clearly stated they were

?

"So this Greg guy is the coach that we beat and that got cranky at us, he is the guy that was inside the house boat, the guy that left the notes and letters; the man that was talking to Wayne and the man that is taking revenge on Mr. Hensman for the things that the Hensman family has done to his. This is a revenge story that goes back to the medieval times. Tomorrow we warn Mr. Hensman." Danny said and as the library closed the boys walked home in the rain almost in silence.

Thursday

Thursday was always the day that Churchie boys hated because they had to wear whites. Whites were the hottest uniform alive. It consisted of long pants, a long sleeved white shirt, a tie and a big blazer. They wore this all because of headmaster's assembly. The assembly that the headmaster gets to speak to the students for a couple of minutes about the school and what is happening. It wasn't good to be late for it because the school marshall would give you a detention. Today Danny was late because his alarm clock hadn't got him up on time. He sprinted to school still munching on toast, the breakfast that he had missed out on. As he got to school he walked towards the assembly hall (Morris hall) trying hard not to be seen. It was then that he saw Mr. Hensman and it looked like he was talking to someone. Oh no! Danny thought and just when he was going to run towards Mr. Hensman. He heard the dreaded voice of the marshall

"Get over hear boy" he said and Danny turned and walked towards the marshall "get into the hall before I give you a detention." Danny obeyed the marshall to his dismay.

It was then that the school captain said out the front in his commanding voice "School please stand for Mr. Hensman" the school stood but there was no principal in the back ground a screech was heard and Danny looked out of the hall to see a big delivery van speeding down the street with the logo 'home deliveries' written on the side. James and Will turned to Danny they knew what had just happened. He signaled to them in a secret code they made up in grade 6 and then Danny counted down "3...2....1." the three friends bolted out of the hall like Asafa Powell at the start of the Olympics and even though the teachers called them back they still kept running. They ran down the school street following the noise until they couldn't hear it any more. They walked through the streets but found nothing. When they were about to give up hope they heard a dog barking very loud they followed the sound until it led them to a one way street and there parked on the side of the road in front of a weird house was the same removal truck. The back of the truck was open and there was no sign of Mr. Hensman anywhere. They ran towards the weird house. It was quite big and was half way through construction. It also had three big shipping containers out the back of the house. Still there was no sign of Mr. Hensman.

"Both of you stay here I am going to see what is in those shipping containers. If something goes wrong James call the police" Danny constructed "O.K" Will and James replied.

Danny crept around the back of the house. He got a piece of wire and picked the lock on the biggest container.

Clink, click, bang, "yes" Danny sighed. It worked and what about a guess Mr. Hensman was inside along with drugs and a fair few guns. Mr. Hensman ran towards Danny.

"Thank you" he said. Danny told him to go to where James and William were. Mr. Hensman went and as Danny turned to leave "BANG!" A bullet hole was now in the side of the container. Danny swore under his breath and then he ran he ran towards Norman creek with the man that had just shot at him on his tail "BANG!" another bullet whipped past Danny's head. Danny made it to the banks of Norman creek after dodging dogs, cars and poles. He ran down the banks and then suddenly the worst thing possible happened he slipped. Then when he looked to get up there in front of him was Greg Mazrap. "I should have killed you when you were outside my houseboat." Greg then held the gun up to Danny's head. Danny closed his eyes and

Thud!

Am I still alive thought Danny what, of course I am.

Danny opened his eyes and there lay an unconscious Greg Mazrap.

There standing behind him was a police officer with James William and Mr. Hensman.

"Thank god" Danny sighed.

The police officer had Mazrap escorted to the police station as soon as he started to come around.

Friday

After the police and the media had stopped interviewing James, Danny and William they were called to the principal's office.

?Mr. Hensman thanked the boys for their rescue. He then asked "how did you know he was going to kidnap me."

"If we told you we would get a couple of detentions." Danny said.

"Don't tell me then" the principal said with a smile.

?So the friends left on a cheery note.

"This week would make a good story you know" Danny said

"Yeah, 'The Norman Creek Mystery'." Will laughed.?? ??
