Jacks' hair whipped around her, as she sat on the starboard side of The Oceana.
"How fast are we goin'?" she asked the captain, screaming over the wind.
"About twenty-five knots!" Helena yelled back, pulling hard on a sheet. One of the helmsman, Jacques, told Helena in a heavy French accent as he aided her, "The jib is on strain, we need to slow down!"
"She can hold!" Helena replied, giving him her famous wicked smile. Jacques scowled and headed down into the bottom deck.
Jacks laughed at Jacques cursing in French and popped open a soda. "You right there?" Helena yelled, just manaaging to catch her hat before the gale-force winds stole it away. "You ain't stealing that!" She scolded, laughing with a huge grin.
Then, out-of-the-blue, a massive wave smashed against the vessel, shoving it dangerously to starboard side. Jacks screamed in surprise and fear as she slid towards the safety bars, her rubber soles providing hardly any purchase on the slippery deck. "Helena! Help!" Jacks screamed as she tried to stand, but mercifully, another wave crashed into the starboard side, as the huge sailboat rightened.
Jacks ran to the nearest fixed object, grabbing a life jacket, securing and tightening the straps.
"Jacks!" Helena cried, fighting the water as she stuggled to keep the boat intact. "Help me over here!"
She nodded and proceeded cautiously to the helm. But once again: SLAM!
This time, the force was so sudden, so shocking, so powerful, that Jacks was flung right out...over board.
Helena was stunned, her eyes seeing nothing as the boat bulleted through the water. "Jacks! JACKS!"
But Jacks was long gone.
