Things have been quiet for some time. This year is almost over and as I sit to reflect on the changes that have occured I cannot help but feel a little sad. The year has gone by and my writing has taken a back seat to the demands and needs of my dear one. It was in January when things went terribly wrong, my hubby was on holidays and enjoying the little time left before the working year would begin. We were working on our back porch putting up shade cloth. I had gone inside to start tea when I heard the crash. My husband had fallen off the ladder. An ambulance arrived to transport him to hospital where he spent the next nine weeks flat on his back with a compound fracture to his left leg. He had shattered the two main bones and made a right old mess of his leg. Along with the injury came two strains of golden staph. Nine weeks and twelve proceedures later he came home. The next three months of healing went quickly and we thought everything would be fine. But then we got the news that the fracture was not healing so it meant more surgery and even more time off work. So then the real trouble began, he was to be booked into hospital for a bone graft. So the date was set and all was going ok considering. The day came for us to make our way to the hospital, so we set off nice and early full of hope and wanting for it to be all over. But we get to the hospital to find out that the surgery was cancelled and no one bothered to let us know. (curtesy gone astray) we made our way back home to again await a new date. Again the date was set so we began the preparations once more, but then two days before the surgery we received a phone call to say that the surgery again was cancelled, the reason (here is the punch line) the surgeon had broken his leg. We could not believe the sheer luck we were having. As of me writing this post we are now on the waiting list as a cadigory two (non urgent) and it could take up to three months before the bone graft my husband needs will be done, in the meantime it is almost twelve months off work with no income coming in and the surgeon thinks it could be another twelve months before my hubby sees work again. So the moral of my story Ladders can be a dangerous tool that we all take for granted as we go about doing our home renovations. My hubby has been lucky others are not so lucky as the tragedy of falling off a ladder is one of the most common falls that the hospital wards see.
