Chapter 1

It's a drizzly cold rainy afternoon in October, my shoes are soaked, my hairs a mess, my pencil case has broken and to top it all off the hood off my coat was ripped off today at playtime. Fair enough it was an accident and I suppose Miss Bixton was right that these things happen when your playing 'tag' Maybe I did overreact a little bit. Crying like a two year old probably wasn't the best idea and my hood does just button back on, but a load of good it's going to do me in this rain sitting in Miss Bixtons drawer.
It feels like I've been waiting on these steps for an eternity.
"Don't worry Celeste, mummy will be here soon" Miss Bixton says to me in her caring way.
That's my teacher, she's really nice. She's only been my teacher for a few weeks since we came back to school after the summer holidays.
"did you remember your picture?" she asks
"Yes miss it's in my folder"
Every Friday afternoon after lunch we have free time where we can play with the polygon, read books or do anything really. I always do drawings with Kelly. She's my best friend and we pretty much do everything together. We drew cats and horses today. I love cats but mum won't let me have one and Kelly has always wanted a pony. I'm actually quite proud of this picture today.
"There you go Celeste there's mummy, Have a nice weekend" Miss Bixton says
"Thankyou Miss, See you on Monday"
I walk over to mums car, this is really strange mums always ontime this just isn't like her.
"Sorry Darling" mum says taking my bags and loading them into the car "Got held up at work, Did you have a good day?"
"Yeah we had fun today we did spelling, then assembly, then maths then this afternoon we had free time, I drew a picture" I explain to mum.
"Oh lovely, can't wait to see it"
Mums always so cheerful.
As we pull into the driveway I notice a cat sitting on our wall, a white cat with orange tabby patches. It's just sitting there watching.
"I wonder what it's thinking" I wonder to myself as I watch it. I mean cats must be thinking something aren't they?
