THIS IS A STORY ABOUT FLUFF AND HER ADVENTURES AT 1, CEDAR TREE AVENUE.

WHEN MR AND MRS DAVIES MOVED INTO THEIR LOVELY NEW COTTAGE THEY FOUND THEY HAD A LODGER. SHE WAS VERY SMALL AND WAS ONLY ABOUT SIX WEEKS OLD. THEY DECIDED TO LET HER STAY WITH THEM AND THEY NAMED HER FLUFF. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL BLACK KITTEN WITH FOUR WHITE PAWS AND A WHITE BIT AT THE END OF HER TAIL.

SHE LOVED HER NEW OWNERS AND THEY LOVED HER.

ONE MORNING FLUFF LOOKED OUT OF THE KITCHEN WINDOW. SHE COULD SEE THE WIND WAS QUITE STRONG AND MRS DAVIES WASHING WAS BLOWING AGAINST NEXT DOORS FENCE. MRS DAVIES WAS TRYING TO TAKE THE WASHING OFF THE LINE, WHILE MR DAVIES WAS TRYING TO BRUSH ALL THE LEAVES INTO THE CORNER OF THE GARDEN.

FLUFF WAS JUST GOING TO JUMP DOWN FROM THE WINDOWSILL, WHEN SHE HEARD MRS DAVIES CRY

"WHAT IS THAT UNDER THE LEAVES?"

MR DAVIES TOOK A LOOK AND EXCLAIMED

"WHY IT'S A HEDGEHOG DEAR!".

2

FLUFF DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE, SO SHE CLIMBED DOWN AND RAN THROUGH THE KITCHEN AND OUT THROUGH THE CATFLAP INTO THE BACK GARDEN.

SHE RUBBED HER NOSE UP AGAINST THE HEDGEHOG AND GOT A NASTY STING FROM ITS PRICKLES.

"WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR?", SHE ASKED.

"I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING," REPLIED THE HEDGEHOG. "IT WAS YOU WHO BUMPED INTO ME."

FLUFF LOOKED AT THE HEDGEHOG.

"WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?" HE ASKED.

"YOU SEEM QUITE STRANGE. I'VE NEVER SEEN A HEDGEHOG BEFORE", SHE REPLIED.

"WELL LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF. MY NAME IS HUMPHREY. I THINK I'VE HURT MY LEG", HE SAID.

"MAY I HAVE A LOOK?"ASKED FLUFF. "OF COURSE", ANSWERED HUMPHREY, "IT'S QUITE SORE".

"HOW DID YOU DO IT?" ASKED FLUFF. SHE COULD SEE THAT HUMPHREY NEEDED TO GO TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL.

"I FELL DOWN A HOLE," REPLIED HUMPHREY. "CAN YOU CALL AN AMBULANCE FOR ME PLEASE?".

OF COURSE PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND ANIMAL LANGUAGE, AND THEY DON'T SEE THAT ANIMALS TAKE OTHER POORLY ANIMALS IN AMBULANCES, TO ANIMAL HOSPITALS.

3

MEANWHILE, MR AND MRS DAVIES HAD TAKEN THE WASHING INSIDE AND PUT THE BRUSH BACK INTO THE GARDEN SHED. THEN THEY WENT IN FOR A CUP OF TEA. FLUFF CLIMBED UP THE NEAREST TREE AND SPOKE TO CARLA THE BIRD.

"CARLA, CAN YOU CALL AN AMBULANCE FOR MY FRIEND HUMPHREY THE HEDGEHOG PLEASE? HE IS IN MY GARDEN AND HE HAS HURT HIS LEG". CARLA SAID YES, AND THAT IT WOULD BE WITH THEM IN ABOUT TEN MINUTES. FLUFF CLIMBED BACK DOWN THE TREE AND WENT TO SIT BY HUMPHREY.

QUITE SOON FOUR LARGE HOSPITAL PIGEONS FLEW DOWN INTO THE GARDEN AND TOOK A LOOK AT HUMPHREY. THEY PULLED OUT A LARGE STRETCHER AND PUT HUMPHREY ONTO IT.

"OH YES HUMPHREY," SAID ONE, "I CAN SEE YOU NEED A FEW NIGHTS REST AT THE HOSPITAL TO MEND YOUR LEG". HUMPHREY LOOKED AT FLUFF AND ASKED HER IF SHE WOULD VISIT HIM.

"OF COURSE I WILL, "SHE REPLIED, "AND DON'T WORRY, YOU'LL BE FINE".

THE FOUR PIGEONS EACH TOOK A CORNER OF THE STRETCHER, AND HELD IT IN THEIR BEAKS, AND FLEW OFF TO HOSPITAL.

"THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP FLUFF, "SHOUTED HUMPHREY, AS FLUFF WAVED GOODBYE.

4

A FEW DAYS LATER FLUFF WENT TO THE HOSPITAL TO SEE HOW HUMPHREY WAS. HE WAS IN BED WITH ONE LEG STRAPPED UP IN A BANDAGE.

"HOW ARE YOU?" SHE ASKED.

"OH, I'M MUCH BETTER THANKS" HE REPLIED. " I AM GOING HOME TODAY, AS I CAN NOW WALK ON MY LEG".

"OH GOOD, "SAID FLUFF. "YOU CAN SHOW ME WHERE YOU CAME TO HURT IT".

THAT AFTERNOON THEY TOOK A WALK TO THE PLACE WHERE HUMPHREY HURT HIS LEG. IT WAS ON A PAVEMENT, ON A VERY BUSY STREET CALLED LUMPIT STREET, WHICH WAS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM CEDAR TREE AVENUE. FLUFF DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

AFTER SAYING GOODBYE TO HUMPHREY SHE RAN AS FAST AS SHE COULD UNTIL SHE ARRIVED HOME.

SHE SAT ON MR DAVIES KNEE AND PURRED. MR DAVIES WAS TRYING TO READ THE NEWSPAPER. HE STROKED HER UNDER HER CHIN BUT SHE COULDN'T GET HIS ATTENTION. SO SHE SAT ON THE NEWSPAPER.

"FLUFF, WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?" HE ASKED.

SHE JUMPED DOWN AND 'MEIOWED' TOWARDS THE DOOR.

5

"OH YOU WANT TO GO OUT DO YOU," HE SAID AND HE GOT OFF THE SOFA AND WALKED TO THE BACK DOOR. FLUFF FOLLOWED. HE OPENED THE DOOR.

"THERE WE ARE THEN, "HE SAID. "NOW YOU CAN GO OUT". FLUFF MEIOWED AGAIN.

"OH YOU WANT ME TO COME WITH YOU, "SAID MR DAVIES. "WELL HANG ON THEN AND I WILL PUT ON MY SHOES". FLUFF WATCHED AS MR DAVIES PUT HIS SHOES ON. "WHERE SHALL WE GO?" HE ASKED.

FLUFF WALKED AHEAD AND MR DAVIES FOLLOWED, CHUCKLING. HE KNEW SHE WANTED TO SHOW HIM SOMETHING. SHE ALWAYS ACTED LIKE THIS, BUT USUALLY IT WAS TO SHOW HIM A MOUSE, OR A BABY BIRD THAT HAD FALLEN OUT OF A TREE AND NEEDED TO BE PUT BACK.

THEY WALKED ONTO CEDAR TREE AVENUE AND TURNED THE CORNER INTO LUMPIT STREET. FLUFF WALKED TOWARDS THE HOLE AND MEIOWED AGAIN.

"LETS HAVE A LOOK THEN" SAID MR DAVIES, AS HE WALKED TOWARDS THE HOLE. "THERE'S NOTHING IN THE HOLE FLUFF. IT MUST HAVE GOT OUT, BUT THIS IS QUITE A DEEP HOLE. I THINK I WILL PHONE THE COUNCIL THIS AFTERNOON AND GET IT FILLED IN BEFORE SOMEBODY FALLS INTO IT".

FLUFF WAS VERY HAPPY. SHE KNEW MR DAVIES WOULD PHONE AND GET THINGS DONE.

6

LATER THAT AFTERNOON MR DAVIES DID PHONE UP THE COUNCIL, AND SURE ENOUGH THE HOLE WAS FILLED IN THE VERY NEXT DAY.

HUMPHREY CAME TO VISIT HER A FEW DAYS LATER. HE WAS FULLY RECOVERED AND WAS VERY GLAD THAT THE HOLE HAD BEEN FILLED IN.

"YOU ARE VERY CLEVER FLUFF," SAID HUMPHREY.

"I KNOW," ANSWERED FLUFF.

HUMPHREY AND FLUFF LAUGHED.

HUMPHREY WENT TO FIND A PILE OF LEAVES TO LIE IN. FLUFF LOOKED UP AT THE SKY AND FELT THE WARMTH OF THE SUN SHINING DOWN ON HER. THEN SHE CURLED UP ON THE GRASS.

AFTER ALL, SHE THOUGHT JUST BEFORE SHE FELL ASLEEP, 'ALL CATS ARE CLEVER AREN'T THEY!!'

THE END
