The Girl Who Knits Socks

Short story By: Junde Yumry
Childrens stories

In this story, three sisters seize each life by each way.

This short story is like a fairy tale, but all my works are ironical and cynical.

The Girl Who Knits Socks

Once upon a time, three sisters live in a village.
The oldest sister is good at playing harp.
The girl can make beautiful sounds, because she eagerly practices the harp every day.
She does not miss harp practice, even when she is tired and injures her fingers
The beautiful music is always played in their house.
The second one is good at gardening.
The girl can grow beautiful flowers, and she spends a long time in the garden every day.
She does not miss gardening, even when it rains and snows.
The beautiful flowers always bloom in their house.
It is said that the third one is good at knitting socks, because she gives everyone the socks, whenever she meets people.
However, the third girl actually dislikes to knit.
The socks which she has given people were knitted by their mother.
The youngest sister does not like to play instruments and to grow flowers.
She has wanted to give a good impression to people.
The girl who knits socks has been embarrassed about herself, so she has given people the socks which her mother had knitted.
The girl can add sweet words with the socks when giving people them, because she is a clever girl.
The Neighbors consider the girl to be kind and tender.
The first girl is quite shy.
She always becomes nervous when facing people, so she cannot behave with cheer like the youngest sister.
Her neighbors have assumed her to be unsociable.
The second girl is so honesty.
She does not like to tell white lies, so she cannot delight people.
Her neighbors have assumed her to be icy.
The third girl thinks that steady effort is meaningless.
She believes that sweet words and beautiful smiles are the best charm, so she has looked down her sisters
One day, a traveler visits their house and wants a glass of water.
The oldest sister brings a glass of water to him in haste, and she serves a piece of bread with cheese too.
The second sister notices his muddy feet, so she draw water from a well.
She hands the traveler a towel, because he does not have even a travelling bag.
Moreover, the oldest one plays harp, while he is eating.
The second one decorates a room with her flowers for healing.
The third one takes out the socks from her pocket and speaks to a traveler with smile.
“Welcome to our house. I’m looking forward to you. I have knitted these socks for you with my whole heart. I’m really glad, if you receive them. ”
She adds a few words.
“It’s my pleasure that the socks knitted by me can warm your feet.”
Her mouth smoothly moved like a pond skater and produced beautiful words constantly.
However, it is impossible to knit the socks for a sudden visitor in advance.
The traveler is very tired, so he could not think her honeyed words strange.
He said to her, “what a kind girl you are! I remember your kindness forever.”
I was attacked by bandits and stripped of everything, but I’m a merchant in a neighboring county.
I hope that you become the queen of our country and ask you to come to our country.
He said thank you to only the girl who knits socks and left.
