Last night I looked again in awe at the open canopy of the stars
And saw that speck; that smudge that is the Andromeda galaxy.
Just a blot of obeisant against the black.
Our nearest neighbor galaxy ,
A spiral whirl of stars around a black hole of infinite density
And I thought how insignificant we all are ;
In the vastness of the millions of galaxies
How easy it would be for god
To forget a little speck of blue
Way back there in a little galaxy they called the Milky Way
How inconsequential even our galaxy is
As inconsequential as the ripple of a pebble in the vast Atlantic
That’s all we are .
And then I thought why does god have to be good
Despite s the beauty of the stars , a flower in bloom , a newborn child
Images of beauty all but is it evidence that God is Good ?
Or is that just the obverse ; That He is bad ,
Is to unendurable a concept to perceive or ever accept ?
Did Einstein figure it out
Or leave more problems for both saint and science;
Or do we blame Copernicus or Galileo , or even Newton.
But no . No there is no answer as to whether God is good.
I just hope He is,
Thats why I spell Him, and He with a capital 'H'
