Take Heed Your Gifts Today

Poetry By: donkylemore

in contentment we cannot appreciate the misery of others anymore than yesterdays toothache .
But we have all gifts - freedom ,of pain ; of bleakness of soul of oppression , tyranny ,poverty

Do we ever really stop to think of these others from the exploited child in the sweat shop to the depressive who looks beseeching into the pitiless dark and only asks deliverance by taking his own life ..

Take Heed Your Gifts Today

Today can be just another ordinary day -
A day just like any other .
But as long as you are free ,
Are not starving,
And do not have a terminal illness of body or mind
It is within your own gift to give to yourself
Some extra happiness today
And let others bask in the radiation of that glow .

If your life is not subjugated
By tyranny ; war, conflict
Be it domestic or global
You can turn away from the bankruptcy of
Greed of Envy ; of Hedonism;

Awaken !-Take heed ! and know that you can see for free !
The gifts that are yours to behold
And to beget in others

Only when the agony of the toothache
Has brought us to our knees
Do we see how sublime are the lives
Of those who have no toothache
And how serene and joyous was life yesterday
Before the toothache struck ;
That vile and merciless tyrant ! that now assails you.
And has brought you to your knees

But for some , their lives are not just wracked with Just some trifling toothache.
They live in the squalor of a dollar a day ;
Bent double all that sixteen hour- long- day ;
In a sweat shop ; Sixteen slaving hours
Which is very long when you are less than this in years
And your young spine has already twisted under the relentless
Yokel of the loom or the endless continuum
Of the ravaging consumer conveyor belt.

When there is not just no light ;
But not even a spark ,
At the end of that tunnel of gloom ;
Where the spirit is lost
In the eternal coal dark pit of depression ,
And the only way out is to make it over ; to terminate it all
By a needle , or a rope , or a jump
Into the murky river raging in full torrent of flood.

Take heed your gifts today
And maybe for a moment
Share what you have with those who have not.
Or take the burden from those who have what you want not
Be meek ; but joyous ,
That you live ! -Without hunger thirst or , cold
Or pain ;Or under the yokel of oppression
Of the body and the very spirit inside
Or by the cannibalizing misery
Of desolate depression that kills the very soul.

Today can be an ordinary day -
A day just like any other
Or you can share with others
The radiation of that glow;
That they might take some shelter there awhile.

Let theirs be for a nanosecond ,
All that is reflected from a golden paten
That is yours to give -
Your own rejoicing in appreciation of the gift
That is now within your gift to gift to others ;
And hope that from out the their sadness
They can revive this ;
Your gift to them today ,and let it NOT
Be just -Another Ordinary Day
