Don't just see,Observe!

It was when I was in eight grade when my teacher told our class about her memory.
She told that two years ago ,on the occasion of sports day she saw a boy.He was the contender
for the race but he was late. The race was going to begin."Well!,the boy was in the school uniform",
she told, further adding,"I started removing his shirt and I observed something!"."A foundation on
his collar of the white shirt!"."And that boy",she said,"he is an outstanding sportsman and equally
good in studies as well."The only thing she was trying to explain was about,' to be observant',and,
she was right!Perhaps the boy she was talking about was me.
Observation for me is to see something more than what you can see.To observe is nothing but
to notice or percieve something. Its to watch someone or something carefully and attentively. When
you look at a thing, you probably judge the thing or study it and maybe think about it or analyze it.
All of these are closely related to observationy. And what about examining? To examine something is
to investigate it thoroughly.Owing to which it is exclusively superior to observation.

Most of them may think that observing is just a matter of looking through one's eyes. But,

observation can take place using all five senses. Lets take an example that somebody is cooking.

The observers will be able to see the food being cooked, they will be able to smell the food as it cooks,
and hear the food sizzle. They will then be able to touch the food to ascertain its texture, and finally
taste the dish.
Observation is indispensable in two major fields, namely, science and philosophy. In science,
the scientific method requires observations of nature to formulate and test hypotheses.Observation
plays a role in the two steps of a scientific method. The first is to make observations of the phenomenon.
The second is to test the hypothesis by an experiment, an observational study, or a field study.
Observation in philosophical terms is the process of filtering sensory information through the thought
process. Input is received via hearing, sight, smell, taste, or touch and then analyzed through either
rational or irrational thought.

Games that test your power of observation can be surprisingly challenging. They also

reveal a great deal about how your mind works on an everyday level.Observation games can help us
become more aware of our surroundings and more conscious of the present moment.
Word Observation Games:
Games that test the player's powers of observation are often in question-and-answer format. In these
games, everyday images are mentioned. The player then brings to mind the object or image. Also, the
'word search puzzle' is extremely popular which is entirely based on observation skills.
Picture Observation Games:
Another type of game for testing observation skills is the picture game. In this game, drawings or
graphics are shown to the player, ranging from optical illusions to spot-the-mistake to creative
reasoning or test-your-memory puzzles. The game of 'spot the difference' which belongs to this
category is very well known.

As said by Johann Kaspar Lavater,"He alone is an acute observer, who can observe minutely

without being observed.” I wish to share three circumstances that I came across with regard to my observation. The first
one is about a girl in my class of java programming language. She was sitting a few yards away from me
and I observed her for some time.I noticed some few things. There was a dark patch on her hand which
could be clearly seen when she operated her mobile phone. It may be a birth mark or a permanent
mark or a scar. The next thing I noticed was her nails, which were grown and were uncleaned.Lastly,I
could look at her heels which could be seen as she wore chappals. They were cracked and I wish I could
suggest her to wear socks in order to protect them.Thats it!Any further observation should be restricted
for good.
The second one is about a shopping mall close to my house.I obseved the accelerators. The
accelerators to reach the higher floors were not one above the other. In order to acces the upward
moving accelerator on each floor you needed to travel half the circumference of each floor. At first I
assumed it to be an architectural design flaw. But on thinking carefully you will know that the capacity
of mall is less.So in order to control the crowd density, the passage or the legnth of the walking path
is increased. Then there are all sorts of food stalls on the ground floor. But there is only one dustbin in
the middle of the stalls and it is a wooden box which doesnt even look like a dustbin.Lastly, there is no
washroom in the entire mall except for the muliplex theatre and some leading showrooms.
The final one is about my observaion in a soccer match. The referee in a soccer match has to
sprint across the field keeping up with the players and closely tracking the action.Owing to which,
they have to run more than the players. They tend to run 12 miles during the game - five more than
the players, according to data from the U.S. Soccer Federation.Sometimes a foul is not given a foul by
the referee because of his inattentiveness. The last one is that the players argue with the referee after
a foul or yellow card or esp. when a red card is given. It is merely worthless.A decision once given is
not taken back.So it is really pointless to argue!
Advantages of Observation:-
1. Very direct method for collecting data or information – best for the study of human behavior.
2. Data collected is very accurate in nature and also very reliable.
3. Improves precision of the research results.
4. Problem of depending on respondents is decreased.
5. Helps in understanding the verbal response more efficiently.
6. By using good and modern gadgets – observations can be made continuously and also for a
larger duration of time period.
7. Observation is less demanding in nature, which makes it less bias in working abilities.
8. By observation, one can identify a problem by making an in depth analysis of the problem and further can fix the problem..
This is all about observation. Its indeed an attribute of a human which makes him to
amend things for his own benefit. The fields of Archaeology,Science and Investigation are all
concomitant with observation. The work of a detective is closely associated with the use of
observation skills. As the legendary fictional detective Sherlock Holmes says,"Don't just see,Observe!".
