Things Every Teen Should Know
Regardless of what you may think, you don't know everything.
Your parents don't lay awake at night thinking of ways to make you unhappy.
Their rules are simply meant to protect you against your own immaturity.
Being their child does not entitle you to have everything your heart desires.
Money does not magically appear in their wallets. They work for it.
They were your age once, and no, it wasn't much different then.
The friends you choose to hang with can define how others perceive you.
Making good grades won't make you a nerd. They make you money later.
If you could tape your teenage years and play them back in twenty years, you'd be surprised how much your opinions have changed. It's called Maturity.
You will never know how much your parents love you until you have children of your own.
There are a hundred more things that you should know, but most of them will be learned the hard way…by experience.
Just keep in mind that parents don't get an instruction manual with your birth certificate.
From the moment of your birth they fear for your health and safety. They know if they mess up in the process of raising you, it is YOU who will pay the price later.
That is a huge responsibility and they don't take it lightly. The more maturity you show, the more honestly with them you share your feelings, the more they will feel you can make good decisions on your own.
Believe me; they want you to become independent. They are raising you to go out into the world one day as prepared as you can possibly be.
They are not perfect and they are not without mistakes. They are human, just like you.
Last, but not least, you should know:
Parents are not the enemy…they are the two people who love you more than anyone else ever could.
