Revisiting the killing of Trayvon Martin

Article By: Gazeinfo
Editorial and opinion

The tragedy of Trayvon Martin and Mr. Zimmerman is a condition we must never forget as unjust laws have been and I have no doubt still on the books and we are subjected to these unjust laws. We as Americans cannot hold ourselves up to the world as people who stand for liberty and justice for all when our actions dictate otherwise.

It would appear that Florida has decided to let the "Stand Your Ground" stand.

February 26, 2012 in Stanford, Florida when Trayvon Martin had the misfortune of encountering Mr. Zimmerman. Trayvon from all reports that I have seen was in fact doing nothing illegal and that has what perplexed me as to why this Mr. Zimmerman chose to single this kid out? Some might say that because there had been break-ins in the community it is right for Mr. Zimmerman to be suspicious of Trayvon Martin if that is the case then the word for that action by Mr. Zimmerman is called "Profiling." If in fact this is profiling then does that mean if it were not Trayvon Martin would it have been the next Black person to walk through that community and be worthy of such suspicion?

I believe in people protecting themselves but laws that give crackpots, people haters and other sick minded individuals a stay out of jail free card doesn't help anyone. This "Stand Your Ground" law provides so many opportunities to kill with impunity. Have we now become a community of "Dirty Harry?" "Go Ahead, Make My Day!"

The final tale of the tape which many of us heard regarding Trayvon Martin & Mr. Zimmerman was a desperate voice calling out for help only to receive the final bullet to his life and since there was only one person with a gun it is obvious to me this gunman wasn't the one crying out.

Let us take a look at the results of these conditions. What was Trayvon Martin guilty of? Let me ask that again. What was Trayvon Martin guilty of? He wasn't guilty of the break-ins suspected by this Mr. Zimmerman, he committed no illegal acts while being observed by Mr. Zimmerman and so for an American citizen simply doing what every American citizen does, now lay dead and cold Over What?
