What's The Need Of Women In Politics ?
Lalu has put feminists across the country in spot of a bother. He has made feminists ,impervious to reasoning, do so some real good thinking. His usual tongue-in-cheek take on the women's role in politics has led to a jungle fire amidst the hyper active feminists. Lalu said that " If they think women vote independently without considering their husband's wishes, they are mistaken. If I ask Rabri (Devi) to vote for someone, do you think she will do otherwise? "
In other words,he did not mince words in making it known that women (absolutely) lack the political will of their own. They are just not capable of making political decisions. They are incompetent to make right political choices, being in awe of all sorts of negative formations operating around them in various forms.
Lalu this time has done an act akin to throwing a stone at the honey bee hive. This remark has irked the women's organizations who were quick to warn Lalu to wake up from his slumber of ignorance.
The social development professional Manjula Singh says that " For women born and brought up without any discrimination in the urban set up, his comments are obviously ridiculous. But there is some truth to his statements when it comes to villages or small towns. There, women haven't been empowered enough to think beyond their father's or husband's views,"
Someone also stated that "In such a scenario, till you put up more women on top you would never really know how they'll fare. The number of women in politics is abysmal in India because of the mindset that women aren't qualified or mature enough"
Well, these are interesting point of views. They have an element of truth but we need to look beyond the obvious.Well, it's difficult to imagine why women want a piece of their cake in political arena ? What's the force that's shaping their tryst with political world ? Are women really interested in making better changes in female world or are they interested in projecting their whims and fancies on a greater level over a larger section of mass ?
We have had till now three prominent female leaders Maywati,Jayalalitha and Indira Gandhi. They are all mass leaders. They enjoy considerable influence over the people via their political decisions and choices. Though Indira Gandhi ,took some bold steps,we all know that in her regime the country was chained in emergency. She never missed an opportunity to serve her vested interests. It's she who taught all the future leaders that you can go to any extend to serve your political interests,to an extent of crushing the sanctity of important Constitutional bodies.
That's why we find that today leaders have scant respect for constitutional provisions. That' why we found her successor Rajv Gandhi using the Parliament to make an out of the way provision for Shahbano. That's why we find Congress never missing the opportunity to play with the honour of Constitutional bodies time and again by making SC in conflict with Parliament. This dangerous precedent set by Indira Gandhi that Constitutional bodies are subordinate to the vested interests of politicians is responsible for so many ills prevailing in nation. She stated that "Corruption is global phenomena".
And so we find that a culture of corruption and sycophancy now are order of things in our nation. The SC is forced to state that " the only panacea to rid the country of corrupt elements was to hang a few of them on the lamp post." What else it can state amidst the precedent set by the powerful female leader ?
Now have a look at Maywati. She shamelessly states that government has no money to offer to the stampede victims but spends millions in organizing the silver jubilee celebrations of BSP. What a beautiful mindset a woman has ,isn't it ? The usual pet explanation offered by Mayawati against so many charges of corruption hurled at her is that this all is the conspiracy of her political adversaries. That's what is also said by Jayalalitha. Such stupid and absurd explanations offered by such corrupt women leaders absolves them of all heinous crimes. And our foolish electorates keep on worshiping such fallen leaders.
I am not against role of women in political sphere. However,I just cannot ignore dangerous repercussions, being aware of type of politics played by likes of Sonia, Mayawati and Jayalalitha. The problem with we Indians that we are more governed by emotions rather than reason. We forget that U.S.boast of rights of women but then it did not grant rights to vote women that easily. It allowed them to first get shaped in right mindset. As a result of that we find that Hillary Clinton lost to Barrack Obama in Presidential election.Look at us. We have now Partibha Patil as President. In other words,we are quick to give way to ceremonial gestures without bothering to analyze the implications.
I may also add a new dimension in my article that women feel that their role in politics is important to give a proper representation to issues represented by y women. This is merely a hit excuse and nothing else. Some days back I was reading the rise of feminism and I found that this movement gained momentum with the help of important male personalities of previous era. I mean to say that when they say that their representation in political circles is imperative to solve problems of women ,the women organizations then sound foolish and opportunists.
Anyway,I come back to reservation of women in highest political forum.I must once again state that when I brutally oppose this reservation for women,I do not do so merely on flimsy grounds. It's not also because that I am against the rise of women in political sphere. I am of the opinion that reservations are only methods to grant legitimacy to mediocrity. The reservation for women will also add an another chapter in confusions and disorder caused by demon called reservations.Look at the consequences of reservations in other sectors.
The real talented souls are languishing in some dark corner.Though we might hide the harsh realities by projecting the false image of India's growth ,it's quite evident to all of us that reservations have only shattered the dominance of merit based equations. We have become a nation mired in mediocrity, having a false sense of superiority with false icons of growth. This drama to ensure reservations for woman is just a final nail in the coffin.
MY JAI HO ON THE DEMISE OF MERITOCRACY IN INDIA !!!
