Marc Edmond, of the Grind Cafe' in Underberg, has recently taken over the management of this extremely popular country restaurant. Situated 10 kilometres out of Underberg on the Drakensberg Gardens road; it is well worth the short journey to enjoy the good food, pleasant company and peace of the country side. At party time the hosts are well known for their enthusiasm in ensuring quality time.
The setting is magnificent. Sunsets over the lake and mountains are awesome and this is a great place to end the day sipping a slow sundowner.
A concise but sufficient Breakfast menu is available with a full breakfast costing R55.
The Family menu - served during the day includes pastas, stirfries, toasties, pies, burgers, pancakes and kiddie's meals.
The evening menu is smaller and a bit more mature. Lamb or pork chops, oxtail, a 500 g T-bone (R115), rump steak, chicken and a vegetarian dish concludes the choice. Fresh trout, from the hatchery's own farm are served; the only eatery in the area to offer such a delicacy. A variety of trout dishes is available on request.
A full bar and range of wines is available. All wines are priced at R90 . Glass wine is R15.
The popularity and quality of food is expressed in the fact that Christmas Lunch was booked up from the end of October.
Mark will be offering weddings and receptions under Arabian tents. The grounds and surrounding countryside offer the most peaceful settings for a memorable wedding. Conferences and seminars will be catered for . The Hatchery lodge offers a selection of en-suite accommodation and the Underberg quality lodges and B&B's are available for overflow guests.
For rugby / sports enthusiasts a large wall-mounted TV screen in the bar becomes the central focus of all the experts.
Fun activities include fly fishing, river tubing, mountain walks, horse rides and of course day trips up the Sani Pass.
