If I Were To Create A Christmas Video Game

Editorial and opinion

This is an article about ideas that I would bring to a Video Game about Christmas if I were to be a part of it. It is made for Day 19 of my 25 Day Christmas/New Year Challenge from December 1st to December 25th. Less than a week until Santa arrives, kids. Bet you can't wait! Neither can I!

Hello everyone, and welcome back.

Today I am going to be writing something that may seem a bit similar to what I mentioned in the Minecraft Christmas Update Ideas bit that I wrote a few days ago. It will change, though, because I am saying that this is a standalone game and not a version or update of anything.

The first thing I would include would be the weather effects. As a person plays the game, they are drawn to it through the atmosphere. If the weather, which should be typically winter has not got snow or anything that would relate to Christmas, then what would the point be of the game?

Then the artwork. I think it shouldn't feel too nostalgic in the way of pixilised graphics, but rather more advanced. This is to further immerse the younger generation who do not understand or know what each pixel represents. As an example, snowflakes would look a lot better if the artwork and graphics looked realistic. Don't get me wrong, I love pixilised games. They are both fun and nostalgic, but for the type of game I would want, the graphics would have to look realistic.

Easter Eggs are in almost every game in some way, shape or form. I want to see references to many of my favourite things inside the game. Depending on the rating of said thing, I may not be able to include something more graphic. As an example, my all time favourite show is The Walking Dead by AMC, created by Robert Kirkman. I couldn't go ahead and put a Zombie in, because that would be considered more PG or M rated, when a Christmas game should be G. However, I could go ahead and put a sign in that says "Don't Open, Dead Inside" and could be something to warn players from a boss or could be in a medical building where you are delivering presents from Santa to.

I would include many fantastic Christmas songs that would have the player singing along to. These could be pretty much any Christmas related song such as Jingle Bells, White Christmas, Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer and more.

Other than that, I would like to include a compelling story for the player to enjoy. These would keep him/her happy and interested in the game, making them put more hours into it and if they review it, they will have to say they enjoyed it.
