Film Review Movie: 10 things I hate about you Director: Gil Junger Stars: Julia Stiles as Katerina Stratford Larisa Oleynik as Bianca Stratford Heath Ledger as Patrick Verona Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cameron James Davis Krumholtz as Micheal Eckman Andrew Keegan as Joey Donner Genre: Romantic Comedy Film classification rating: PG Film rating: 2.5/5 10 Things I Hate About You When you're about to watch a chick flick you have a 50/50 chance of enjoying the movie or hating it. Usually you can tell in the first five minutes whether the humor is to your likingade up my mind. All though the. But “10 things I hate about you” was an exception, after 15 minutes I still hadn't made up my mind. The movie tried to start with humor with the school guidance councilor whose personality seemed t t o contradict her job and appearance, it wasn't enough to win me over. When it comes to Hollywood no one seems to own the gift of originality. Even Jill Junger can't claim that gift, his movie is a modern day retake of Shakespear's “The Taming of the Shrew”. I cant remember the last movie I watched that was completely original, the makers of ten things decided that the best form of flattery is to copy. So to credit Shakespeare they left many of the name the same or change them slightly to fit in with the times. The movie is set in a modern day stereo typical large American city. The plot focouses around the relationships of six characters who attend Padua High school. It dosent take long to realise the theme is teenagers, their relationships and stereotypes. What appears to be the main plot at first is Camerons absession/love of the popular Bianca Stratford. It is general knowledge that she cant date until she graduates because of her fathers fear of his daughters getting pregnant. Old rule out, new rule in, Mr Stratford decides that Bianca can date when Katerina does, but the problem is that Katerina is a shrew unlikly to date anytime soon. Cameron still inclinde to date Bianca searches for someone to date Kat, only to find that most of the guys at the school fear her exept one that he finds who seems to be her perfect match. As with all stories the movie has a villain, in this case Joey Donner another rich, popular student at Padua who is chosen to fund Patrick (a delinquent with a thousand rumors surrounding him) to date Kat. Quickley the story becomes less about Cameron and Bianca and more about Patrick and Katerina. The comedy was hit and miss but there was a lot of it. The makers tried hard to make laughs, and achieved it with many parts such as the english teacher treatment of his students but others such as most of the seens with Mr Stratford in it just failed to produce laughs. Over all the movie was watchable even generated a few laughs, had a good mix of comedy and romance - but I wouldn't pay to see it at the movies, its not worth it. Im giving it 2.5 out of 5.

For an A, you need a cohesive structure and sound grammar, spelling & punctuation etc. (To my suprise, it worked fo me and I was a B-C student who got an A and A* in english lang/lit! Mind you: I still think i recieved someone else's results, haha!)

You need to get rid of the informalities as well if its an essay. Some of the assumptions you make need backing up (try examples from the film itself or another film comparable to it.) Also, you MUST get rid of 1st person and put it in third person and remove exclammation marks.

You might have heard about 'meta-language' which is the technical language style needed in an english essay (words such as: 'target audience' and 'mis en scene.')

Hope all this helps, it worked for me!

You might like to check out my story 'Tribes' or 'The Silencer' a thriller i've begun on my other account (I'm called Quark - don't ask.)

I hope you like it, comments are absolutely welcome!

I absolutely love that movie, its based on my favorite shakespear play and I thought they did brilliantly, but maybe that's because i'm a 17 year old girl and I'm into that kinda thing, oh well, you don't like it, I do! Great essay, short and to the point.

My only critiques are that you could edit your story a little better and fix the grammar. Everything seems so rushed. I realize reviews don't have to be outdrawn, but give a little substance to your review. Overall I thought it was a fair review. Even though I would never give it as much praise as you did. Frankly, I thought the movie was very typical.
