The "New God"

Brainwashing

The Tailspin

Reflection 9

Of course society can't survive completely without religion. This generation is without role models. They look to the eyes of the strongest leaders they know. Everyone is seeking money, and those who have the most of it are the most powerful. Those with the power create a culture in which they can gain more power and so on. How absurd, reader? Influence is determined by an imaginary concept of value. Many rappers, designers, musicians, directors and writers have all used their freedom to create the prison of popular culture. At first innocent and fun pop-culture bred new ways to share ideas and socialize. Of course it soon became a source of money and then power. Those at the top pushed for peer pressure to absorb more interest. This peer pressure mutated into the feeling of "being cool" which was equated to a sense of belonging. Eventually, consumers became producers and the ones on top now felt the need to be cool too. So it only took a couple of people to say drugs and alcohol and young sex is cool for other producers to believe it and feed it to the consumers. And around and round it goes.

Isn't it mind blowing to think about. There are two faiths set before us. One, religion, gives you a sense of belonging no matter who you are and what you wear and offer a positive way of life. The other, pop culture, accepts you only if you buy into it and stay in fashion and have the "coolest" this and that while preaching negative things as "cool". The choice should be simple right? Of course we choose to be "cool" because let's face it, we will never get ahead by being religious right?

"What's a god to a non-believer who don't believe in anything? Make it out alive. Alright, alright. No church in the wild."

I mentioned my fellow cannibals in earlier reflections, and implied that we were in danger. Every lyric of every song we listen to, every scene of every movie we watch, and every word of every magazine and book we read affects how we think. Without guidance, it is only logical to deduct that if the majority says something is true it must be true. As a result there are kids at school every day who are so high that they are out of their minds and unable to be taught or even guided. 5% of our teen girls are pregnant before age 20. Some kids don't even make it through high school. How is my generation ever going to reverse the problems at this rate? Even now Jay-Z is still blaring over my radio singing "No Church in the Wild"…

"Coke on her black skin make a stripe like a zebra. I call that jungle fever. You will not control the three-some. Just roll the weed up until I get me some. We formed a new religion. No sins as long as there's permission. Two tattoos one read No Apologies, the other said Love Is Cursed By Monogamy. It's somethin' that the pastor don't preach. It's somethin' that a teacher can't teach. When we die the money we can't keep, but we probably spend it all cuz the pain ain't cheap… preach"
