The life of Zoe

By: Little Amy

Chapter 3,

*Jessica*

I arrive home early from school, my head was throbbing. At least I be with my aunt and uncle, I hate leaving them alone. “Uncle Kalanda, where are you?” I walked in the room and he wasn’t there, I heard a smash coming from the kitchen and ran to see what it was. When I got there he was sat on the floor picking up glass. “Are you okay?” I asked.

“I didn’t mean to do that.” He looked really sad, and I just put my hand on his shoulder.

“It’s okay, come on you sit down and I’ll clean up.” I helped him up and put him in his arm chair. I went back into the kitchen and cleaned up the glass, but the phone rang causing me to jump and dropped the glass again, I went to answer it. “Hello?” I answered.

“Hello this is Doctor Johnson, am I speaking to Jessica.” I sighed it was probably bad news.

“Yes, this is Jessica. What can I help you with?” I asked.

“I was calling to see how your aunt is.” He said.

“She’s ill, you know that.” I said a bit upset.

“I do, I was hoping to talk to you, alone.” I knew this was bad.

“When?” I asked.

“Now, can you come?” I looked at my uncle, he seemed to be tired.

“Yes.” I hung up and went to my uncle. “I have to go out for a little while.” He just looked at me and smiled.

“You look like your mother.” He said then fell asleep, I smiled and went outside and got in my car. I drove to his office and went inside the building, this is going to be bad news I can just feel it. I knocked on the door.

“Come in.” I heard him say, I opened the door and stood in the doorway. “Ah Jessica, come in come in.”  I walked in closer and sat down. “I’m glad you came, I must talk to you about your aunt.”

“How bad is it?” I asked, I didn’t want to cry. I never cry and I wasn’t about to start now.

“I’m sorry Jessica, you should prepare your family.” I sat back in my seat, I was very upset. I loved my auntie and couldn’t imagine what it would be like without her.

“I understand.” I looked up and he looked at me funny.

“What did you do to your head there?” he asked.

“I fell.” I said.

“You are okay right?” he asked, well let’s go over everything shall we? I’m 16 and I have to take care of my ill aunt and uncle, I get bullied at school. My twin is not happy and our lives our difficult.

“I’m fine.” I lied; I didn’t want to admit we were struggling.

“Okay, you can leave. Please call if anything happens.” I nodded and left and went back to my car. I put my hands on the wheel and completely broke down.

“Please don’t take my auntie away from me, please, please.” This lasted about ten minutes before I calmed down a bit, I needed to pull myself together and go home. So I wiped my eyes and went home, I knew Zoe would be there, probably stressed out of her mind. When I got in I saw her sat on the sofa.

“Where the hell have you been?” She was defiantly in a bad mood.

“The doctor called, he wanted me to go down and talk to him.” I said walking past her.

“What did he say?” She asked.

“She’s dying Zoe, what do you think he said?” I tried not to cry again, but I really couldn’t help it.

“Since when do you cry?” she said while hugging me.

“Since this got to be too hard.” I went to my room and locked myself in; I was so upset and tried. I hoped I would wake up tomorrow and everything would be okay.
