Short Story By: ayshala77176
Editorial and Opinion

There is a publishing from "Booksie" about their next round of changes. Though I replied to the thread, I think there is more that needs to be said. Please add any comments and maybe the site will take notice? View table of contents...

Though I replied to the thread about the next round of changes to "Booksie", there is more I need to say. I was going to go back and add to my original comment,  but that option isn't possible. So my first observation/request...

1. A possible edit/add option for the comments area? Either that or the ability to post repeated (up to three or something?) comments under the initial one. This allows both room for conversation and questions. It is difficult to have someone say "You need to change this." and you change it, but you can't ask if that person thinks the change is right?  I know an extensive area would raise the upkeep cost too much, but maybe there is a safe medium?

2. Some sort of clarification or repair to the insane rating/ranking system. Sometimes it seems to have no rhyme or reason.  A real example. I am looking at "Rankings", "Short Stories", "Last 7 Days".  The catagory is "By Ratings". In it, at #16. Is a two sentence message someone posted for their readers of another work. This "message" has had 13 reads and 1 comment.  My short story, submitted in the same time frame, has had 48 reads and 4 comments. Now this "message" is rated higher than my piece  because, probably, one person voted "5" on it, and ten people voted "4" on mine, right? There must be a better way to work that out? Even knowing what the actual rating of a piece would be nice. Like, "Oh this piece is a 4.5 out of twenty votes. This other piece is a 5 out of two votes."

3. Is there anyway to extend the features and new writing areas from three to five? I notice that when I publish something, it stays on the front page for about five to fifteen minutes. I'll get like twenty reads in that time. As soon as it goes out of that top three spot though, it takes like two days to get twenty reads. Just wondering if that "glory" could be stretched a tiny bit to make up for how fast new work gets published on the site.

4. Some sort of "chapters" selection for short stories. Maybe three chapter limit, or three sections. But short stories come broken up too.

If anyone else has anything to say, please add a comment! It's at least worth a try, but I don't know, it's late, I'm tired, so maybe I'm just dreaming I'm writing this....

Hi ayshala77176,

Thanks for your comments on the previous post and this post. We appreciate any and all feedback.

We're working on some enhancements which will address some of the points you raise. You'll see them roll out in the next 3-4 weeks. I am going to look into the ranking system to make sure it is working properly. Remember, the rankings measure scores over a certain timeperiod. So, someone might have gotten only 1 rating in the last seven days but that would beat someone who has 4 ratings if they were received previous to the last seven days.

Thanks again and we'd love to get more feedback. How can we make this a better place for you to publish and promote your writing?
