Japanese Killers
Once again the killers stalk the seas. They do it not because they are starving; they do it not because there is some vital product that can only be got from the dead carcass. Nor do they do it because it is vital to their economy. No they do it because they like it, they like to kill. These same people were the ones that murdered prisoners in the Second World War, these are the people that took delight in beheading prisoners that they considered a burden. These are the same people that starved, humiliated and deigned medical treatment to prisoners of war. Now their barbaric ways have returned to the sea to kill whales. They have said in the past that the whales they killed were for scientific purposes. So what do the Japanese not know about whales that cannot be gleaned from a book? What further information can they retrieve from the dead carcass of this sea going mammal that is not already known.
Last year the Japanese killed 853 Minke whales and 10 fin whales, and they have just started hunting humpback whales this year. But this year the quota has gone up because they have set out to kill 1000 whales 50 of which are humpbacks. This comes hard on the heels of reports of Japanese fishermen slaughtering pods of dolphins in the sea side town of Taiji, and with the full knowledge of the Japanese government. One may say that there are plenty of whales so killing a few off hurts no one. How do we know how many there are, these creatures are not kept on farms, they are not fenced in, we only estimate their numbers. No doubt that when the life blood seeps out from the last whale on this planet; the Japanese will make us a mechanical facsimile for our grandchildren to gawp at.
Consider if you will that instead of us hunting the whale there was some entity from out there in the galaxy that came down to this planet to harvest humans. You are in the garden with your child when a thing comes up your path hurling spears at you that have exploding tips. You take your child and run, but it chases you, a spear sticks in your child’s back and explodes. Your child now lies dying on the path, you see the pain in the eyes but you know if you stay you too will die. So you leave and with your child’s last breath she begs you to help. Your child’s body is taken to their ship where the flesh is peeled from the bones and used by them to make products. I hope you see the analogy.
Anthropomorphic you say? Yes it is and I make no excuses for it. The Japanese cried pity when the atom bomb was dropped on its people, one would have thought that this would have given them more empathy for all life knowing what it’s like being on the wrong end of suffering. I once had it said to me that my writings were an instrument to deprive men from work at sea. Thank you that person, it would seem that at least something I had written had struck its mark. And yes I believe in the end of whaling and the development of whale tourism.
I will close by saying that it is up to you to make your views known, not to sit back in your comfort zone and accept what governments dictate to you. You are the ones with writing ability, you are the erudite and literate and hence have the power. I say put it to some use and tell your government and other governments what you think. Below you will find some addresses if you care to use them. I have no e mail address for 10 Downing Street but I do have their fax number, but you can use their site to send a message.
