I've been writing since I was 16, (poetry, songs, and horror stories) but I had to stop when I started scaring myself and couldn't get over it. This lasted until my late twenties when I started writing childen's stories, but I wasn't satisfied. I needed more meat. I still couldn't go back to the stories I loved so I stopped writing again. I figured, "I can't write what I want, I'll just stop writing." Then the bad dreams started. I would have them over and over again in the same night unless I got up and wrote it down. Once I wrote it, I could sleep peacefully. The worst one became a character in one of my stories. I don't try to stifle myself any longer. Whatever comes out is welcome. Like Shrek says, "better out than in.." It at least keeps the monsters away.
