CHAPTER 43: TRUE LOVE
(Emmett Cullen’s Point Of View)
I didn’t like the way Noelle burst into the room. She looked terrified. She looked at all of us and she went to me I stood up. The guys turned the television off and she said, “There are vampires. Rosalie and I don’t know how many there are, but we smelled some. The smell is extremely fresh.”
Jasper and I rushed over to her and I quickly shut the door.
“Carlisle!” Jasper yelled.
My entire family was in the room now. Carlisle and Esme were right beside her while Edward was on the other side of Carlisle.
“What’s going on?” Carlisle asked.
“Noelle said that there is a fresh scent of vampires.” Jasper explained it to them.
“Rosalie and I just found them. They were in this hour at least. If not then they are fresher.” Noelle explained.
That was when it hit me.
“Where’s Rose?” I asked her.
She paled a little and looked at the door.
“She told me to run as fast as I could and that she would too. She thought that it was better that you get warned then us sticking together.” Noelle explained, “she should’ve been back by now.”
I went past everyone and immediately got outside. The others followed me and I looked around. I tried to make it to run, but Edward grabbed me.
“Something could’ve happened to her!” I growled.
“I know, but we can’t afford make the same mistake that we did before Emmett.” Edward explained.
“He’s right.” Jasper agreed.
“All of the vampires can go. They must’ve been look outs so there wouldn’t be many. The whole pack can stay here.” Sam said.
“I’ll call Jake.” Seth said.
I was running before my family could even agree. The Volturi were behind them and I was in full throttle running. I was until I caught the scent. I immediately stopped. I was done following Noelle’s scent back here and this was where the start of Rosalie’s was.
It was also the place where it ended.
I looked around as everyone caught up to me. Carlisle was at my side and he placed a hand on my shoulder.
“It stops here.” I growled.
“They must’ve disguised her scent. There is no trace of anyone here except for this one spot and Noelle’s trail.” Carlisle agreed.
“I’m sorry.” It was a hoarse and tormented whisper from Noelle.
I turned to look at her to see her wide eyes full of shock and I knew that if she could Noelle would be in tears. She looked even more pale than usual. Jasper put an arm around her and she was looking at me with those eyes.
“I’m sorry. I should’ve stayed with her.” Noelle whispered.
“No dear. You didn’t know.” Carlisle said.
I glared at her. I was too angry. Too scared. Too upset.
“No. She’s right. You should’ve stayed with her.” I growled.
“Emmett.” Esme told me disapprovingly.
Jasper glared at me and tightened his hold on Noelle as she looked to the ground. Her face was full of guilt. I growled at them all and began to run away.
“Emmett. Stop!” Edward said, but I was already gone from everyone’s sight by a mile.
As I ran my mind was racing. Rose. Rosalie was gone. My wife. The one that I loved with all of my heart. The one that I would give up my life for just to get her to smile. The girl who I wanted to live with for the rest of my life. The person that I wanted to be with more than anyone else in the world. My wife. My soul mate.
The person that I could very easily never see again.
I ran to the place where I last saw her. I couldn’t believe that I gave up Rosalie for a stupid game. Rosie I am so sorry. I didn’t know.
When I got there, I stopped and looked around. I knew that she wouldn’t be here, but something gave me hopes that she would be. Something was giving me hopes that she wasn’t kidnapped, but that she was hiding. That she was still in the forest somewhere and lost and trying to escape and find her way back to me. Vampires had to be here. I had to trust a newborn’s scent of smell.
I growled. I was so angry. I didn’t know that Jasper and Edward felt like. I felt furious. I felt mad at the world and I wanted to kill something. Smack down a couple of trees. How could we have been so careless? Now Rosalie was paying for our mistakes. Of course there had to be vampires watching us. Irina wouldn’t loose her focus on us. What were we? We were stupid. That was what my family and I were. She was watching us the whole time, but we somehow thought that she had given up on us. We thought that with all of those hostages that she was already so preoccupied.
Now Rosalie was another one of those hostages.
I turned to a tree and broke it in half. I watched it fall and I smiled at the loud THUMP that it made. I didn’t loose all of my anger though. I growled again and kicked another tree down. After that I panted and looked around me. My family wasn’t there. Jasper and Edward knew very well to leave me in peace. I wasn’t in the mind to talk to anyone. Not now and if I didn’t get my Rose back then not ever.
I looked up at the starry sky and I yelled out as loud as I could, “ROSE! ROSALIE! I’LL FIND YOU ROSE! I PROMISE!”
I fell to my knees and looked down at the ground. I was panting and could barely even hear the agony in my voice, “I love you.”
