CHAPTER 46: MORE AND MORE FIGHTS

(Jacob Black’s Point Of View)

I was doing my patrol with Quil, Embry, and Paul that night. Renesmee had been slumping down for the rest of the day and decided to live on her bed and watch television and eat. I stayed with her most of the time, but I could tell that she just wanted to be alone for the most part so when she would ask me to leave I would. I talked strategy with the Cullens, pack, and Volturi most of the day anyway. We made patrolling schedules and paths.

I could tell that Carlisle felt guilty, but I assured him that it was better that we knew this. Renesmee was just shocked and I could tell that it was just another thing that was going all wrong for her. First her parents, then Alice, almost Carlisle, maybe Rosalie, maybe Shauna Leigh, and now our child was at risk too? She needed to calm down and I promised myself that I would take her shopping.

So as I was patrolling I was running beside Quil. All three of them could hear my thoughts, but I kept thinking as if they weren’t really there. It was close to midnight and as we passed through Forks for the fifth time we heard Seth howling from the Cullen house. All four of us stopped to go back into the woods before we changed into our human form and put on a pair of shorts that we had been carrying in our mouths all through the patrol.

All four of us had been patrolling ever since five o’clock. So far there was no scent of any other vampire. Including Rosalie. Though the blondie and I still didn’t see eye to eye I didn’t want her kidnapped and being held by Irina as well.

As we were walking I saw Quil quickly talk to Embry and they began to walk faster than Paul and I. I was just about to say something when Paul assured me, “I told them to do that.”

“Oh.” I said, “Why?”

He sighed and stopped and I did the same. He looked at me and put his hands to his side to relax.

“I really have to tell you something and it’s been really bugging me. Every time I see you.” Paul started.

“Then say it.” I said.

He looked away and scratched his head before looking at me. After a sigh he told me, “I imprinted on Rachel.”

I felt my mouth drop.

“You did…what?” I snarled.

“I would’ve told you sooner, but it was when I saw her for the time when she came here for your wedding. I didn’t want to take the stage light from you so I kept it quiet. I didn’t want to tell you when you came home because I knew that you and Renesmee were having problems and she was pregnant.” Paul defended and he backed away a couple of steps.

What? What? Paul and my sister! I couldn’t think up of anything more disgusting.

“Does everyone else in the pack know?” I snarled.

“Well. I mean. It was a lot easier to tell Sam and the others.” Paul said.

“You imprint on my sister and have the nerve to let me know after everyone else!” I snarled taking a step closer to him.

“You have an imprint Jacob. You understand!” Paul said backing away too.

“My sister!” I growled.

I looked him over and then stopped. Though I hated the idea of Paul and my sister together he had a point. I had an imprint and I knew what it was like. The scary part was that I could see Rachel in a wedding dress walking down an isle to him.

I suddenly felt sick.

“Why should I care? You’re right. I shouldn’t stop you.” I growled and began to walk away.

“I finally understand all of those feelings Jake. I now know why Leah, Sam, Jared, and Seth feel so happy. I’m not going to let her die Jake.” Paul said from behind me.

I turned around to glare at him.

“I’m not either. I’m not going to let any of them die.” I said coldly and I then began walking away from him then.

Paul was smart to stay out of my sight on the way back home and when I got there. Edward nodded towards the back door and both of us walked there. I got outside first and he shut the door behind him. He stared at me and said, “I need to talk to you about Renesmee.”

“What about her?” I asked.

“Are you sure that you are going to be able to afford taking care of her and the kids?” he asked.

“Yes. No offense to you, but I don’t want my kids around blood thirsty vampires.” I answered, “I sent out my applications and I have an interview in two days actually. It may just be a waiter at a restaurant, but it’s money.”

“I’m just saying Jake that here we can take care of the kids more.” Edward said.

“I’m not going to keep my kids in a household full of bloodthirsty vampires. One or two is okay.” I growled.

How dare he tell me what was best for my family. It’s not his children.

“Renesmee is my daughter Jacob.” Edward said coldly.

“Only because she asked you to. Only because she’s Bella’s daughter. If she wasn’t then I’d know that you wouldn’t give,” he cut me off.

“I love her Jacob. Like a father should love her.” Edward growled.

“I saw you on the day you first saw her. You hated her until she told you that she was Bella’s daughter and even then you still didn’t care too much for her.” I snapped.

“I didn’t know her!” Edward growled.

“You never gave her a chance until she begged you to help her.” I whispered, “I know about her a lot more than you. Our relationship is more strong and I know her and there is no way that I’m going to leave my kids with this household unless under the supervision of me or someone else in the pack.”

“We are not bloodthirsty as you think.” Edward growled.

“Need I remind you of when you left Bella?” I asked him.

He glared at me with such loathe and I did the same.

“That was not Jasper’s fault.” Edward growled, “he has been hating himself ever since then.”

“Maybe it won’t be Jasper, but you said yourself that Noelle was a newborn.” I said.

“Sam keeps his kids here.” Edward said.

“Sam has no choice. I do.” I growled and when I moved to the door, but he took my arm.

“Neither do you. I’ve seen you get angry. You almost hit Renesmee.” Edward said.

“I hate myself every single minute for it and I am taking massive amounts of pills to ensure that it won’t happen again. You’re the overprotected one who gave Bella grief because you never let her near me. You call me unsafe I don’t attack because a drop of blood goes down to the floor or even get a cringe. I can control myself a lot better than vampires.” I growled at him.

His eyes flared and he let go of me and I growled at him, “don’t you dare tell me how I should take care of my wife and how I should raise my kids. They aren’t yours. Taking care of them won’t bring Bella back Edward. That’s just another reason why you wanted to take care of them right?”

He stood frozen and I walked inside and took out my pills and took another dose to calm me down.

I couldn’t do patrol anymore.
