CHAPTER 47: NOT SUCH FUN TIMES
(Renesmee Black’s Point Of View)
I spent the next day with Claire, Leah, and Esme. I already told them about the baby so they were careful with me and got me to forget most of the time I was shopping with them. I was happy to have friends like them who would get my mind off of all of the troubles that were happening around us.
We were now at the food court and it was lucky that Esme didn’t eat because I ate about thirty dollars worth of fast food and so did Leah while Claire was just a normal burger it was still costly. After apologizing to my grandmother she brushed it off and said that it was okay.
We only gotten me new pants so far and we had a fun time bra shopping. We had about three bags full of new things for me and Esme happily paid for all of it. Some of the girls also got new things.
“So have you and Jacob thought about names?” Claire asked me.
“No. Not really. I was thinking of having some of the middle names be after my parents, Alice, Jacob’s mom.” I answered.
“First names?” Leah asked.
“No. Not yet at least. I think that Jacob and I are kind of laying it off a little. Ever since he’s been patrolling again he’s been a little stressed. Also, eight boy names that we can agree on and then eight girl names that we can agree of. Then we’ll have to rank them to see what ones we would use depending on how many we have in each gender.” I commented and sighed.
They laughed.
“So you and Jacob are keeping it a surprise. You don’t want to know?” Leah asked.
“No.” I answered.
“It’s better that way. I liked being surprised.” Claire said.
“You bailed! What are you talking about?” Leah said.
Claire giggled.
“I still got surprised.” Claire said.
I saw her smile start to fade. We all went silent and I took her hand.
“We’ll find them.” I promised her.
“I hope so. It feels so weird and horrible for them not to be here with me.” Claire whispered.
“Irina has done many things Claire. But I don’t think that she would harm kids. I think that she must have a bit of niceness in her to not hurt those kids.” I told her.
Claire wiped her eyes and apologized.
“They just banged down the door. I remember trying to stop them. I got hit so many times before I couldn’t get up from the floor. I still hear their screams for me.” Claire whispered loud enough for us to hear.
“Carlisle told me that you tried so hard to protect them.” Leah said.
“Yeah. There was only three of them. They were big men. I’ll say. Almost like Quil. I don’t think that they expected me to be like I was. I did everything that I could to keep them out of their room. Every time I went on the floor I kept coming back up to protect them. I also kept screaming in case someone would hear. When I couldn’t get back up they broke down my kid’s door. I heard them screaming during the battle that lasted for maybe twenty minutes, but I locked them in their room so that they would be safe.” Claire said and tears fell from her eyes and slowly ran down her face.
I squeezed her hand.
“You should be proud of yourself Claire. A human against three vampires and you managed to stall them for twenty minutes. That’s almost more than a werewolf.” Leah told her.
Claire looked at us.
“I just want them home. Quil’s been so stressed and upset lately. We’ve both been out of each other for a while. I know that he still cares for me and loves me and I know that he doesn’t blame me, but he just doesn’t want to loose any one of them.” Claire said, “I asked Carlisle and he said that it was a normal reaction, but I miss him.”
“When you get home tonight snuggle on the couch with him or something.” I suggested.
“We’ve tried that, but it’s just not the same. When I asked Carlisle he said that it usually happens to families whose children go missing. I remember seeing shows about it, but I never thought that it was like this. The husbands love their wives and the wife loves him back, but the grief is too much for them to stay together and then they start to blame each other…Quil hasn’t blamed me yet and neither have I. I think that we are blaming ourselves for things that happened that night.” Claire explained.
We just sat there squeezing her hand and rubbing her shoulders and back.
