Prologue

The wind howled around a shadowy figure that sat upon a large black shire horse. The dark figure stopped at the top of the hill, as lightening lit up the night sky. Anyone who had seen this man would have quivered with fear. Six large wolves arose behind him, preparing to attack; their growls were enough to strike through any man. With a nod from the shadowy figure, the wolves raced down towards a town that lay below the hill. Any woman, child or man that stood in the wolves way, were torn from this world. Their bodies lay ripped to shreds as the wolves worked their ways around the surrounding houses. Their muscles rippled as they pounced on each victim ripping away their throats and devouring their hearts. The beasts truly had become lost. Their eyes were filled with rage and hunger, blood dripped down from their jaws before not a single human body was left alive.

They made their way to the castle gate, which stood at the end of the town. The towers spiraled around the castle as if crafted by a professional stone mason, but in fact it was created by magick. Magick was used by cursed beings in the world known as vampires. This town belonged to vampires. As the wolves made their way towards the gates, three vampires stood behind it, they each had a hooded cloak on covering their faces and bodies, each one of them had their weapons drawn. Each one was a different colour, the tallest out of the three vampires held a green blade, which held a crest on the hilt. The blade became hard with rock; the edges were jagged as well to be able to shred away skin and flesh from bone. The second one, held a blue blade, ice grew around the blade, waiting to tear and freeze away flesh that it came into contact with. The third vampire held a white blade, wind swarmed around it like a small tornado, the wind around it could be felt from over 100 meters away it could tear flesh with the speed it was going at.

The wolves howled, before charging at the gate, their strength tearing it down from off the castle walls. The vampires stood fast and took up a defensive fighting stance. Each one of them were being attacked by two wolves at once, the odds were not in their favor. The vampire with the air blade, slashed down at one of the wolves, the air ripping away at its fur and tip of its skin, the wolf whelped and fell back whining. The vampire with the earth blade, bashed one of the wolves on the head knocking it clean out, before twirling around to face the other one. The vampire with the Ice blade pierced his sword through one of the wolf's heart, killing it instantly. The remaining wolves, saw the strength of the three vampires, and fled whimpering, they ran up to the hill where the shadowy figure was stood, before he disappeared.

"Who was that Tigerious?" the one with air blade asked, he was addressing the tallest out of the three, the one with the earth blade.

"Who knows, but he is dangerous to have such control over those Lycans, so be wary Adamus," he replied pulling his hood off his head. His hair was long, it came below his ears, with a fringe that covered one of his eyes. He sheathed his sword and turned his back on the two vampires, to head back into the castle.

"What about you Candide, do you know who he was?" he asked turning to the last of the three vampires.

"As your father said who knows, but we sure showed them that the Valentines are not a family to mess with," Candide replied with a stifled laugh. Adamus laughed along with him, and followed his father into the castle. Candide stood staring at the hill, before sighing to himself.

"Another thing I was meant to ask you Candide," Adamus chirped up. "Tigerious wants to know when you will be bringing in your addition to the family, it's about time you sired someone again, Tywin is dead, you heard the courier, he isn't coming back."

"Soon young Adamus, soon, I will find someone for you to train with, promise," Candide replied, saddened at the thought of his son being slaughtered by none other but the lycans. He turned and started following Adamus into the castle.

Chapter One

I ran around the farm trying to round up the pigs for my father, he had decided to send for the butcher as it was time for the pigs to be slaughtered and have the pork sold for money. The sky rumbled with thunder, and I could feel in the damp air that it was about to rain shortly, so I wanted to get this job done as quickly as possible. Well I would, but in all honesty, I was rubbish at farming. My mum wanted me to learn how to cook, clean and sew. Being a girl and all, but my father needed an extra hand on the farm, since my oldest brother Matthew had gone off to be an apprentice to a blacksmith and my other older brother, Mark, was off fetching the butcher. To be honest I would rather be out the house though, than stuck in the house with my mum yelling at me that I am doing it wrong. My dog Blizzard stood watch at the gate, with a look, that I assumed was mockery. My father had taken the farm dog up to herd the sheep, so I was helpless in this situation. Blizzard didn't know how to herd, the only thing he was good for, was fetching stuff that I needed. I sighed as I looked upon the pigs thinking of an easier alternative to getting the pigs inside of the barn. Suddenly I remembered that ma' had thrown out a load of potato peels earlier this morning into the compost heap, grabbing a bucket I dashed across to it, picking out the peels, gagging at the smell.

Thankfully it helped, the pigs were soon in the barn pens, five minutes before the butcher and my brother arrived. My father joined them, and all three of them headed off to the barn. I however had decided to skip the butchering and head off into the woods. I didn't want to face my mother yet; I didn't want to help out with preparing supper. I preferred to be outside not inside. I walked over to the stables, to see my mare stood there munching on some hay. She was getting old and I wouldn't be allowed to ride her soon as her body would be getting to frail, but I continued to grab her saddle and reins. I saddled her up and headed off into the woods. The woods were my favorite place, it meant I could get away from my family and the farm, and be myself. I loved to train to fight. A few months back, I had come across a blade, a strange one yes, but still a blade. I headed deep into the woods, coming across an old oak tree, with a hollow trunk. Jumping down from my mare, I tied her up to a branch and made my way across to the old oak. Blizzard came sprinting up behind me; he must have fallen behind back at the farm, the dopey dog. I reached into the hollow and pulled out a package that was wrapped in a thick grey blanket. Pulling out the blade from the blanket, I ran my fingers along the blade. The blade was forged in the colour red, not seen at all. I had found it, in these very woods amongst a few other things. A dark bow, which the wood had carvings in that I didn't understand, the arrows that I found alongside it were as black as night. They were light and agile, were perfect when I practiced my archery skills. The blade was light as well, and easy to wield it was as if, sword fighting came naturally to me. Of course I had never actually been up against someone in a fight.

Blizzard lay down next to the mare, as I practiced my skills, I spent hours going over each move, like how I had seen knights train when I visited the castle to deliver crops to the kitchens. Time passed quickly and my muscles began to tire, looking around me I noticed it was now dark, my parents were probably wondering where I was right now, if not looking for me. Wrapping my weapons back up into the old blanket I carefully placed them into the hollow tree. Before I moved towards the mare, a high pitched scream sounded out around me, it sounded like my mother! Without a moment's hesitation I ripped the red blade from out of the blanket and jumped onto the mares back. We galloped back as quickly as we could, my sword held tightly in my grasp, with fear crawling up around me. The scream sounded as though my mother was in pain, as I drew closer to the farm, I could hear growling and barking. Blizzard had laid himself low on the ground to hide himself in the bushes ahead of me. Dismounting off the horse, I crawled my way alongside blizzard, looking through a gap in the bush.

On the other side of the bush, there was a pyre of dead mangled bodies, against the pig barn; my mother and father were nailed to the wall. Their chests kept rising and falling slowly so I could tell they were alive. I gritted my teeth angrily, I wanted to save them, tears flooded my eyes at the sight of them like that, but I had to keep my mind focused. I saw a line of black wolves behind the pile of dead bodies, with a large black horse in front of them. A dark figure was sat upon the horse, he lit a torch up and threw it upon the mangled bodies, and they all went up in flames instantly. He must have put oil on them beforehand. My eyes lit up in shock as the bodies began to turn to ash so quickly, fear took over my body, and I couldn't stand the thought of losing my parents. I glanced around the farm yard, looking for a way of me being able to free my parents.

Blizzard began to growl loudly towards the other wolves and the dark figure, I kept nudging him to be quiet but it was too late, they knew we were here. Without thinking, Blizzard and I burst out into the clearing ready to fight. Not knowing that these were actually Lycans, creatures of the night. I raised my sword defensively looking to the wolves. The dark figure on his horse, circled behind the wolves looking down at Blizzard and I.

"Kill them," the dark figure said abruptly. He had no emotion in his voice, only death.

The wolves began to walk towards us bearing their teeth, Blizzard growled at them howling towards them. I never expected what was to happen next.

Blizzards body began to alter, his muscles enhanced making him appear stronger, his teeth grew longer and sharper, much like the wolves that were about to attack. There was too little time to dwell on what was happening with Blizzard, I turned to face the wolves eyeing them all up. I was taken by surprise when one of them threw themselves at me, knocking me down to the ground, I struggled on the floor, using my sword to keep its jaw from biting at my face. The wolf then fell away with one blow from Blizzard, he had tackled him to the ground biting a chunk of flesh off of the wolfs side. Bringing myself back up to my feet, I got ready to fight again. A wolf pounced at me again, but I was quicker this time and was able to keep to my feet. I twirled around with my sword facing outwards, and as I turned back to him, my sword met its face, cutting a deep gash deep into its jaw the wolf whelped away, along with a few others that Blizzard had fought off.

I was exhausted, I had only fought off two wolves, and there was still many more surrounding us. Blizzard howled loudly, blood stained his fur, but none of it was his. At his howl the wolves began to back away, they let off one big howl then ran off into the distance, Blizzard chased after them, probably to make sure they didn't return. All that remained was the dark figure.

"You are just a mere human with a pet, how can someone like you defeat Lycans," he snapped at me, I was speechless; I had just thought they were wolves. Not Lycans, and I always thought Lycans were to protect the humans from vampires? Not kill us. Well in fairness, they were fairytales, my mother often told me of a great history of how the vampires and lycans came to be, I never actually believed it, so maybe they weren't on the humans side.

"I only defeated two, Blizzard did the rest," I panted, fear grew over my body. I just wanted to run and hide.

"Even so, come here girl so I can send this sword through your heart, you need punishing for what you have done," he growled at me, he drew his sword ready for me to walk over to him. I took a step back away not wanting to talk towards him.

"No, if you want to kill me, fight me," I replied, fear flooded me, but something told me that I should fight, not give in to death. The dark figure shook his head before dismounting his horse.

"You can't fight me, you don't stand a chance, just come here and let me kill you," he yelled at me, he then began to walk across to my parents. "I presume these are the reason you are here, your mother is very beautiful, maybe I should slit both their throats, maybe you will want to die then."

"NO!" I screamed, I began to run towards him, my sword raised above my head, I then slammed into something that flung me down to the ground with a thud.

"Candide… what… what are you doing here," the shadowy figure's voice sounded in panic, now he was beginning to feel fear. I looked up to what I banged into, and it was another man. He had his a long black cloak that was made of an expensive cotton, his hair came below his ears and was pure black.

"What are you doing here, and who are you?" Candide growled at him. Candide's voice sounded smooth, but full of anger and power.

"I… I…," the voice trembled, but I didn't hear anymore, in fact his horse had gone, and from what I could see so was he, he had vanished from out of site.

"Bloudy shadow magicks," Candide mumbled before turning to face me. His face was pale, but handsome and his eyes black with a red pattern entwined into them. Blizzard came and sat behind next to me growling up at Candide, he had gone back to being his self not looking as strong. "Now who might you be?"

"My name… my name is Aurelia sir," I said, I said it that quietly is no more than a whisper.

"Speak up girl," he snapped at me.

"Aurelia, my name is Aurelia," I spoke up, sounding more clearly and confident.

"What a pretty name," he replied with a smile, he held out his hand to help me to my feet, I took it without thought, his skin was cold to touch but very smooth. He pulled me up to my feet and I barely came up to his shoulder.

"What was your business here? You shouldn't have come, you could have gotten injured, and from what I saw you wanted to fight that figure, you shouldn't go challenging vampires.

"He… he was a vampire?!" I gasped, I knew that the wolves were Lycans, but I never thought he would be a vampire.

"Yes, and I saw you fight the lycans, most impressive for a human, especially a young lady," he praised. I smiled with glee, he was happy about my performance. I then panicked! My parents! Turning suddenly, I ran across to my parents, using the sword I cut off the ropes that held them up, I pressed my ear to their chests, nothing… not even a slight beat. They were dead but how?

"Poison killed them, they must have put up a fight, but Lycans saliva is full of poison, one scratch from their teeth and you're as good as dead, unless you have the antidote, but it's too late for your parents I am so-," he cut off his speech and stared angrily at me. "Where did you get that sword!?"

He snatched it off me holding it up, he glided his hand along the edge sadness filled his eyes.

"I.. I found it in the woods where I trained, along with a bow," I replied tears filled my eyes as I hugged my parents, I then looked to the mangled pile of bodies and saw my siblings amongst them, I cried out angrily, I had no one, my family was dead, if only I had come home sooner. Candide must have saw my pain, because he no longer sounded angry, I sat up from hugging my parents and looked across to him.

"I have lost a family member too, not as many as this, I cannot begin to understand the pain you are going through, I lost my son, many years ago and this was his sword, it had become lost as we don't know where he had died," he began. "My family want me to sire another member as there are currently only three of us, since you have lost your family, how would you like to join mine? I can train you, make you stronger, and make you powerful enough to get revenge for your parents. I can make you a vampire. Of course this is entirely up to you. I will leave you a horse to travel on, seems your horse fled when it heard the battle. Come to the ruined castle a mile up the road tomorrow night, if you don't come I will know you don't want to," He smiled at me, lifting my head up with his hand, he kissed the side of my cheek. "I have given you enough time to bury your family, I hope you do come, and if you do, this sword will be yours." He dropped his hand and disappeared out of site with the sword, shadow magicks? In fact what is shadow magicks? And as he had promised, a Horse stood waiting by the stables. It was a pure white shire horse, he was beautiful.

Chapter two

I cried as I dug the hole for parents and siblings. I kept thinking about what Candide had said about me joining his vampire family. I couldn't be a vampire? Could I? As much as I wanted revenge, surely becoming a vampire wouldn't solve anything? I managed to defeat Lycans without the strength of a vampire... although I did struggle quite a lot. As for Blizzard what the hell was he? I turned to look at my pet, he looked at me also before looking to the ground, he was back to his usual self that I was so used to seeing. If only he could talk. Even so I began to try and talk to him.

"What are you Blizzard?" I asked, I dug the shovel deep into the soil making the hole bigger. Blizzard then looked to the soil he sat on and using a claw, he wrote in the soil, 'Shape shifter.' A shape shifter… what the hell was a shape shifter, would Candide know? Would he be able to explain to me about Blizzard? I placed my parents together in one grave, I knew they w Prologue

I placed my parents together in one grave, I knew they would want to be together, the loved each other dearly and deserved to stay together forever. Forever… if I became a vampire I would become immortal, I wouldn't be able to die by getting old or a disease, I would have to be killed to die. I wouldn't be able to have children of my own… unless I sired someone.

Time passed quickly, my family was now buried, the other villagers were still in a heap on the ground, I felt bad for them, and there was no one to bury them, so I decided to burn them. Lighting a torch I threw it onto their corpses, watching them catch fire. I sat down by my families' grave, and realized how tired I was, I lay down with Blizzard cuddled into me, and sleep took over my body quickly.

When I woke up, the sun was setting; my decision had to be made up quickly. What would my parents want me to do? I had no one, no one to go to. The farm was ruined, there were no villagers to buy my produce, and there was nothing left for me. I had no other family members that I knew of, maybe becoming a vampire is the only thing that was good for me now. I looked across at the magnificent white horse, he truly was beautiful. I looked across at Blizzard, tilting my head towards him.

"Do you think I should go with Candide?" I asked him. He nodded his head in response. Seemed weird now knowing he understood what I said, he just couldn't reply in words. I wonder if Candide is still waiting for me at the ruined castle. I then glanced at the woods thinking about the bow, but brushed that off my mind, Candide had probably picked that up on the way to the castle. I got up to my feet and brushed off the dirt from my clothes. I walked into the ruins of the farm house, walking towards my room, the drawers and door was still intact, my bed however was smashed on the floor, the window shattered from the chaos that went on. I opened up the drawers and pulled on my tatted cloak, it had been patched many times by my mother, and was second hand, it had belonged to my oldest brother. Sighing I tied it around my neck and exited the house. Walking towards the horse, I began to think what being a vampire does. They drink blood. They need blood in order to survive, so does that mean I will have to kill people? No… not just any people, I shall only drink from those who have done wrong. People who don't deserve life, nodding my head I walked up to the horse, I stroked my hand down his beautiful face, before climbing onto the saddle, the saddle was newly made as it felt smooth and stiff. Blizzard sat at the bottom of the horse's hooves, waiting for me to walk on. I hesitated for a moment, I was about to leave all I knew behind, I would visit my parents graves often, this place won't be a total loss. Tears flooded me eyes as I told the horse to walk on, my life was to end now, well this life… my human life. I wiped away my tears, Blizzard hung his head low as if feeling my pain, and he walked steadily behind me and the horse.

The journey to the castle dragged, the sky was now black, and it must have been at least nine or ten at night. I had cried so much my face felt sticky from the tears, Blizzard had took the lead now, his head up high and he kept looking back to ensure that I was okay. When the castle came into view, I could see a man stood in the only tower that was still upright, the rest had fallen down over the years. I hung my head low as we approached the entrance to the ruins; I wiped away my tears and dismounted off my horse.

"I honestly didn't think you would come," he smiled at me as he walked down the stone stairs from the tower.

"I didn't think I would either, but I have nothing left, all I know is destroyed, and I wish to destroy the man who did this to me," I said angrily, I looked up to him clenching my fist. "Whatever it takes, I will do anything."

"First things first, after you are sired you have to enter this kind of trial thing that is initiated by the councilors," he said, his voice sounded concerned about the thought of this.

"Like a test to see if I am strong enough?" I asked, I was scared, what if this test killed me? I wouldn't be able to avenge my parents.

"Something like that yes, you will be put up against an apprentice when you are first sired, if you manage to knock this apprentice down to the ground you are approved strong enough to join the vampire legion," he said, he then placed his hands on my shoulders and stared into my eyes. "You defeated two lycans as a human; you will pass this initiation with flying colors."

"You think so?" I replied trying to smile. "What happens when I do pass?"

"A master will take you on as an apprentice, which will probably be me, unless you impress one of the blood Lords. Mages or Priests. In my eyes the Priests are boring, you seem to be a born warrior, so you might manage to pull in a Blood Lord to take you on," he praised, he brushed my black hair from off my face and smiled at me. "But they will never be able to teach you our family magicks, I will teach you them."

"Family magicks?" I asked intrigued by this statement.

"You will learn when you pass the test," he smiled at me, he caught me by surprise when he lifted me up onto the horse without any effort. A horse appeared from out of the castle, it was the same breed as mine and just as beautiful as the one I was riding now.

"So where are we going?"I asked as he set off into a trot. I followed quickly behind keeping to a sitting trot.

"To Valentine Manor," he replied, his voice sounded proud of the name.

"Valentine Manor?" I asked.

"Yes, the family manor you will be living in, you are to be sired into the Valentine family."

"A valentine?"

"Yes, my name is Candide Valentine, and yours shall become Aurelia Valentine, unless you marry of course, but Valentine blood will still run through your veins."

"Is the manor beautiful?"

"Very beautiful, my brother and his son may not take to kindly to you… nor will my sister, she will be extremely jealous."

"Jealous? Why?"

"Well she has always been the special girl, since she has always only ever been the girl in our family, she thinks shes like some treasure when in truth she ain't nothing special to be honest, she is older than me and Tigerious yet she is only a mage not a blood mage like myself."

"Tigerious? He is your brother?"

"Yes, and Evadne is my sister, she hasn't sired anyone as of yet, when she does she ends up killing them after a week as she gets bored, the council are getting pretty tired of her."

"Tigerious has sired someone?"

"Yes, his name is Adamus he is a warrior, hopefully soon to be a Blood Lord."

"I see, so Evadne is not close to beign a Blood mage?"

"Not even close, she only just scraped the trials."

"Trials?"

"A test to see your strength and power in order to help the Legion, the trials are taken by the Council members."

"Who is in the council?"

"I can't say they have to tell you themselves, they usually keep their identity hidden until you make it to a blood rank."

"I see, so they wear cloaks to cover them?"

"Yes."

By now the horses had slowed to a walk and our conversation had died, I looked down to Blizzard then remember something I wanted to ask him.

"Candide what is a shapeshifter?" I asked breaking the silence.

"A shapeshifter? They are a very rare creature, they usually become attached to a vampire, but no vampire I know has ever had one," he replied abruptly.

"Blizzard is a shapeshifter," I said without thinking, his horse stopped suddenly which caused my horse to rear up slightly but I held on tightly.

"What did you just say?"

"Erm.. Blizzard is a shapeshifter," I looked down to Blizzard mouthing to him 'Do something.' Blizzard walked forwards, his body changing into the massive wolf he was earlier, his height nearly doubled, his muscled bristled under his white coat, and his teeth got considerably larger, he looked bigger than he did earlier.

"He… he is a real shapeshifter, how did he get attached to you?" he stuttered, his sounded astounded.

"I found him as a puppy, he was cold and hurt, his stomach had been clawed so I brought him back to good health," I replied smiling down to Blizzard who began to wag his tail in agreement.

"You managed to connect to a shapeshifter without being a vampire… something tells me this is destined for you, maybe kain has something special for you."

"Kain?"

"The first ever vampire to walk the earth, created by the three vampire gods, you learn all about the history of a vampire in your training," he replied, Blizzard shrinked back down to the normal sized dog again, and we continued on with our journey.

Chapter three

Before long we arrived at a village, which was known as Valentine City. It was actually a village, but due to its large church the village was allowed to take up the word City in the title. When we entered the village, I saw the villagers run into their houses, some did the sign of the cross on their body and someone actually came up to me with a note.

'Wherever you are going

Do not go with him, get away from here

And never come back.

You are not safe here.'

I just nodded my head towards the woman who handed me the note and told her I know what I am doing, she shook her head and I swear I saw tears come to her eyes. I guess they feared the vampires just as much as I did. Not going to lie, the thought of me becoming one of them scared the crap out of me. We came up to a large gate that led up to a beautiful large castle, the towers spiraled up around it, the garden was beautifully kept and the entrance to the castle was so grand, it didn't look real it looked like a dream castle. The gates opened as Candide approached and I followed him through. The gates then closed behind me, I looked for any people opening the gate but I saw none, the gates opened by themselves? As we reached the door to the castle, Candide dismounted and a human came running to guide the horse to the stables, which were on the east of the castle, I could see the hay bales next to a large barn. To the west of the castle I could see an arena where I guess fighting was practiced. We entered through into the hall, it was amazing. The floor was cobbled with a thick red carpet leading up to the stairs that led upstairs. Two more carpets came out of the sides and led the way to the east and west wing of the castle. Blizzard followed behind me, he was looking around as if amazed at what he saw.

A man then ran down the stairs, his feet noisily hitting the ground. He ran up to Candide as if happy to see him return home.

"Candide you're ho-," his speech cut off as he spotted me behind him. "What's that?" He pointed towards me. I frowned, he was directing that towards me, I was furious at being called 'that.'

"That... that has a name, and that does not like to be spoken about in that way," I snapped at him, my sadness had been filled with anger by the time I reached the castle. The villager who gave me the note made me feel weak as if I couldn't handle myself, I had to prove myself.

"What she means to say is, her name is Aurelia not 'that'" Candide said standing in front of me.

"A girl really? You chose a girl… out of everyone in the whole word you chose a girl," he muttered under his breath, he moved to stare at me, his face was beautiful, he had short black hair, with the same eyes as Candide. His face looked perfect, he had cheeks that you could just hold in your hands, and lips that you could just kiss all day, wait wait wait, why am I fantasizing over him? He was to be my cousin, the thought made me want to vomit.

"Adamus, I don't think you quite understand, this girl defeated two Lycans, she found Tywins sword, she is perfect," Candide explained, I smiled, he thought I was perfect for this.

"Don't expect Evadne to be happy about this, I am sure she will have something to say about this," he smirked.

"I am sure Aurelia will be able to look after herself," Candide retorted. Adamus brushed Candide aside to move closer to me.

"How can someone like you defeat two lycans, you are what 17? 18 years old? You don't even look strong enough to hold a sword," he laughed mocking me, Candide turned around to look at Adamus before he drew the red sword from the sheath, he held it out towards me.

"Show him Aurelia, show him what you can do," he urged me on to take the sword. I took the hilt of the sword and held it towards Adamus. I pushed it up against the skin of his neck.

"Draw your sword," I said, I tried to hide my fear but in truth I was crapping myself. He let out a stifled laugh and his eyes glanced across to Candide.

"You can't be serious, Candide?" he asked, Candide just nodded his head and made his way to a bench that was up against a wall.

"I said, draw your sword," I repeated, Adamus began to laugh at me, without thinking I flicked my arm so the sword downwards towards his feet, I twirled quickly using my feet to knock him to the floor, my arm outwards so the tip spun around with me, as he fell to the floor I stood up and pointed the sword to his body. "Draw your sword."

"You have got to be kidding," Adamus said, he now sounded serious and he stood up on his feet drawing his sword. His blade was white, and wind twirled around the edge of the blade. I stood forward slashing my sword towards his head, he parried it off, and began to work in a series of twirls and stances trying to throw me off balance, I managed to parry them off, but I grew tired quickly, I needed to end this quickly. Without thinking, I threw my body to the floor, I rolled between his legs and with a swift movement I jumped onto his back with my sword around his neck, my legs entwined around his waist. His body felt hard, but his skin was smooth. Blizzard then jumped in front of Adamus's body growling, his muscles enhanced as his body grew, he teeth grew longer and sharper. I could feel Adamus's body quiver under my own. I smirked at Blizzard who took a step towards him, his growl didn't sound as offensive as it did against the Lycans but it sounded as though he was mocking him.

"What is the meaning of this!?" A voice yelled, his voice echoed across the hall and I quickly jumped down off of Adamus and turned to face the newcomer. He was stood at the door that led into the grand hallway, he had hair that covered one of his eyes and was around the same length as Candide's. "Candide who is this?" He stormed over to me and grabbed me by the jaw, his grip was hard and pain shot through my face.

"Tigerious release her now," Candide demanded jumping up from off the bench.

"Who is she?" His grip got tighter around my jaw, I heard Blizzards growl behind me. "And that the fuck is that?"

"Tigerious listen to me, let go of her now," Candide demanded again.

"Not until you tell me who she is," he demanded back. Before I knew it, his release on my jaw was gone, and it looked as though he had been flung across the room. Adamus then grabbed me and pulled me to the side of the room, Blizzard followed close behind me. I looked towards Tigerious, he seemed harsh, much harsher than Candide and Adamus. He got up to his feet and glared across to me, he then began to storm over to me again. Candide suddenly appeared in front of me, blocking me from Tigerious's grasp.

"Her name Tigerious is Aurelia, she is to be sired by me," Candide said pushing Tigerious back away from us.

"And what of her pet?" He snapped at Candide, he glared down at Blizzard who had now shrunk back to his original size.

"He is a shapeshifter, who has attached himself to none other than Aurelia," Candide explained.

"A shapeshifter attached to a human? What nonsense are you blabbing about," Tigerious sneered.

"Father it's true, when me and Aurelia was fighting, Blizzard stood up to help her fight, he grew into a wolf, a wolf bigger than the lycans themselves," Adamus explained defending me. Tigerious glared at me stepping away from Candide, he turned his gaze onto Adamus.

"You let yourself be defeated by a mere human girl, you should be ashamed, you are not worthy to hold the title of warrior amongst the legion of vampires," Tigerious snapped at him, Adamus looked hurt at his words. I then began to see darkness swarm around his body before it disappeared.

"That was harsh Tigerious, he is worthy to hold that title, you know he is," Candide said.

"When are you going to sire this girl?" Tigerious asked his gaze then focused on me; he looked as though he was measuring me up and down trying to work out why I am so special. His gaze was fierce as if he was about to kill me, or kill anyone in his path.

"Soon," Candide snapped at him, he was getting impatient with Tigerious's attitude towards me.

"What of Evadne, what do you think she will think of this?" Tigerious asked.

"She will have to get used to the fact that there will be another woman in the family, she can't always be the woman of the house, I am sure one of us will have a woman in our bed one day," Candide explained. "Plus she is much stronger than Evadne, she is weak and only just passed the trials!"

"Candide is right Tigerious, if Aurelia was a vampire in that fight she would have easily beaten me, she is a natural fighter," Adamus said defending me.

"Well whatever, just make sure she don't ruin our name," Tigerious hissed at Candide, he then turned around to head up the stairs, but was stopped in his tracks when tree roots sprouted from out the ground. A large bark case came out of the ground from the roots, my jaw dropped in shock at this my eyes must have been popping out of my skull. The case opened outwards and a girl walked out of it.

"Candide, your home!" She ran down from the tree roots, and leaped on him in a hug. Her gaze then turned onto me, anger flared up in her eyes and she bared her teeth at me. I stood back away from the all but was stopped in my tracks as roots came out of the floor gripping at my ankles. The roots then worked their way up my legs gripping hold of my wrists and making me hold my arms outwards to the side. Was this real magick? "Who are you?" She climbed down from Candide and made her way over to me.

"M-m-m-my name is Au-au-aurelia," I stuttered, I struggled against the roots, they began to hurt my wrists, Candide grabbed hold of Evadne and pulled her back, his hand waved across to me and the roots withdrew from around my body. They went back itno the ground as if they were never there.

"Evadne, she is to be sired by me," Candide explained. "You lay one finger on her, and I will kill you myself." She backed away from me when he said that, I could hear her muttering under her breath but couldn't make out what she was actually saying.

"Then when she becomes an apprentice I will challenge her," Evadne snapped, she turned to face me with a wicked smile across her face.

"Challenge me?" I asked speaking up for myself.

"It is a challenge to the death, any vampire can challenge as long as they are an apprentice or above," Evadne spoke, her voice sounded excited at the thought of this; one of her eyes were exactly the same as the other valentines, but her right eye was just pure black.

"You can try," I muttered trying to sound confident. She burst out laughing whilst staring me down, I have to admit though she was beautiful her face looked as though it had been carved by angels.

"Don't underestimate her Evadne, she managed to almost beat me, and she has also defeated two Lycans by herself, and she is only human," Adamus spoke up defending me.

"Oh my god she defeated two Lycans? How can I possibly beat herm" she said sarcastically, she then laughed at her own joke but no one else found it funny. "Well whatever I am off to my room, don't disturb me." She then stormed off up the grand staircase in the centre of the hall.

"Well since introductions are out of the way I shall show you to your room, you can explore the castle in your own time, but first we need to get the siring out of the way," Candide said rubbing his hands together; his face looked sympathetic and apologetic for some reason. I nodded my head down to him; I chewed my bottom lip trying to hide my fear. I somehow knew I was about to feel some excruciating pain coming my way by his sympathetic look he gave me.

"Good Luck Aurelia," Adamus chimed, his eyes also showed sympathy, how bad could the pain be?

"Don't expect any sympathy from me girl, you got into this, you can bear whatever you come across," Tigerious spoke, his voice sounded as though he was angry, even though he sounded like he didn't care, I could hear a bit of sympathy coming out.

"Ignore him Aurelia; I'll be waiting to fight you as soon as it is over! You'll be my cousin so we will be competing for strength, and to soon one day be head of the Valentine Family," Adamus said, I didn't expect what he did next, but he bowed to me, before walking off following Tigerious. I stood there puzzled before looking to Candide.

"He bowed to me?" I questioned, Candide set off into one of the corridors on the left hand side of the hall, portraits hung on each side of the wall, and two of them were a portrait of Candide and Tigerious. I wasn't sure about the rest of them. Vases of flowers, stood on the floor, with tables in between them, each one carried some weapon with a label attached to each one.

"It is a way of showing respect to each other, Tigerious or Evadne did not bow to you, they do not think you deserve it," he explained. "I highly doubt Evadne will ever show you respect, she has taken a disliking to you already.

"I see," I muttered back, we reached the end of the corridor and came to a spiral staircase that led downwards into the basement I presumed. Candide turned around to face me before we made our way down.

"Before we go down there, there are a few things you need to know, when I begin to sire you, I will be slitting both your wrists open, one for me to feed on and one for me to transfer my own blood into you," he explained, I didn't realize this until now, I was going to be drained of human blood. "Unfortunately it does hurt, well it hurts a lot, when my blood enters your system it will be instantly killing off your cells, at first when you come around properly you will have to learn how to walk and talk all over again, you will need to learn how to channel your vitae energies around your body to move your muscles, eventually it will just come naturally and you won't have to think about doing it." I hesitated slightly not knowing how to reply; instead I just nodded my head to him, I could feel my body trembling as I saw him begin to make his way down the stairway. I hesitated at the top of the stairs before caustically walking down.

As we walked further down into the depth of the castle, the air grew colder and chillier. I could feel Blizzards warm breath around my ankles as he followed me down the stairs, every so often I would hear him whine, he mustn't of like the feel in the air. It felt wrong, unnatural. Eventually we hit the bottom of the stairwell and came into a room that was empty, I could make out slightly from the darkness that chains hung down from the ceiling in the centre of the room. Candide knelt down onto the floor and placed his hand onto a raised stone, I saw a flames flicker down from his hand which set a circle around the chains on fire. My eyes widened as I saw this, the room was now lit up and I could see the chains mor
