 Chapter 1

______________________________

I am so going to be late for class! Oh, by the way, I’m Mel Robint. Don’t call me Melody! And I'm also 12years old and in sixth grade. Ok enough about me let’s talk about…Me having moths and being…. “Late again Ms. Robint” I know, I know, I’m sorry! I panted. My long brown hair fell around my hot, pink face as I looked up into the stern face, gray hair and ice-cold eyes of my math’s teacher Mrs. Julies.  “If you’re late again it will be detention, do you understand me!” she said in her crisp, sometimes horribly, sarcastic voice.  She glared at me as though daring me to say no.  “Yes Mrs. Julies” I answered.  I tugged my heavy bag back to my seat and slumped down.  “Take out your math’s books and do the sums on the board….  Now!” she snapped at us.  Most of us jumped a foot in the air before hurriedly getting started.

“Why that Mrs. Julies!  She has no respect for any one younger than herself” I raged. ‘I know, guess what I heard. I heard, that she told Ms Neal off for suggesting that we have a fire drill practice, and then she TOLD her that we HAD to do the fire drill practice, only a few days latter!’ said Kate, her long black hair was pulled into a sleek black ponytail. Her dark brown, almond shaped eyes were narrowed with dislike. ‘Well we better get to our tree spot before it is taken.’ I sighed. ‘Good point.’ Replied Kate, ‘only no one else knows about it.’(Oops mental block)  We rushed over to a large tree.  Its branches were like steps, once you reached the end of the branches you could climb on small stumps but if your climbed a little higher no one could see you - but the tree looked like a jungle – very deep.  When you reached the middle the branches sort of formed chair like shapes.  Cool or what!  I slumped down on a “chair” and grabbed my lunch from a nearby branch.  “Oh” so that’s why you were late this morning, you hid your lunch box up here first!” Kate said triumphantly with a grin.  “Yeah, it was a good thing to. I was so mad with Mrs. Julies I would have forgotten it in class” I replied.  We burst into giggles. I hastily ate my lunch, tossing my lunch box aside I began to climb higher.  “Hey wait” Kate called and she began to climb.
