Chapter 12 - The Beginning of the End

It was 2000, a new millennium, I had just left a bar and I walked down the main street on my way back the bar, but something was wrong, something was different. I continued walking on the middle of the road but it annoyed me something wasn't right! Then I realised........

I wasn't alone....

I stopped in my tracks and stood alone in the middle of the road and then I heard it, high heels clicking, I turned around and faced the opposite direction. I saw October walking out of an alleyway. She walked straight onto the road and turned and looked at me.

"It didn't have to be this way" She said

"Aw October, did you miss me?"

"Don't joke Damon, I'm not in the mood"

"Wait what's todays date? 21st of October, oh I get it" I leaned in and whispered "It's your month" she was standing several metres away but I knew her vampire hearing would hear me

"Your little jokes always did piss me off, Damon"

"Wow, that's a low blow right there, I guess where even though"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I can tell you two things, one your hair is ridiculously stupid, seriously white, you have the body of a twenty one year old, what are you trying to do? Show your age? And two, October is such a stupid name."

"Enough of this, Damon, I wish it never came to this"

"Don't lie, you love it"

"Damon, will you be serious for five fucking minutes!"

"Ok, I'll just get it out of my system, Elvis Presley has left the building"

"Damon, I wish it hadn't come to this, I really do, and so I'm giving you a choice, step down ...... or die"

"Step down..... From where?

"DAMON!"

"Am I on a step?"

"Right that's it! I'm sorry it had to come to this" Kasumi, Moon and Taksua came walking from the shadows and joined October on the road.

"Aw, No way, a surprise party for me, you shouldn't have"

"Damon please, step down" Kasumi said

"How about no, October, I thought you were better than this" I replied

"Don't judge me, you have no right" October said

"You decide to take me out so you jump me, I'm sorry but that's unhonorable and to be quite frank, it's just rude" I replied

"Damon, it's over, just give up" Moon said

"October, listen to me, one I'm the loved one, ok? I don't die yet, two your team is so uncreative, I mean moon? What type of name is that for a werewolf? Oh wait.... I get it now, actually that’s pretty good and three, It isn’t over til the fat lady sings, and let me tell you this..... You’re not singing at the moment."

"I don't understand you, sometimes you’re this serious mad man and other times your nothing but a clown and you think you deserve power, I think this sarcasm, is your fear"

"The moment when I show fear to someone like you, is the day I'll stake myself"

"Well, you won't have to see that day, I'm sorry Damon.... but this is the end" They all drew their swords and began walking towards me, "Did you seriously think, I was alone? Ok boys c'mon out!" They stopped walking towards me and an awkward silence began. I looked at October and stood nervously, "Do you have a mobile, I can borrow?" They began walking towards me when a voice was heard, "Hey, don't start without me!" I turned to find Jack, Razor and Lune running towards me. "I guess the fight's even now" October said. We were weapon less but we showed them no fear, both sides charged at each other, the fight was split into four separate one on ones. Lune and Moon fought each other, they were both in their werewolf forms, I was fighting October, and I was mainly focusing on dodging her sword. I had taught her everything, I knew all her moves, I dodged to the left and grabbed the handle of the sword, our heads turned and we looked at each other, I head-butted her and took the sword. I ran at her swinging the sword, I had no control, I was in a rage, I had never felt before. She continued dodging my attacks until eventually, I sliced her across the stomach, she let out a cry when it happened. I watched as she fell back onto the road and the blood began to seep through her dress. Before I could attack again, I heard footsteps running towards me, I turned and blocked an incoming attack from Kasumi, who had come to October's aid, we fought each other fiercely, our swords hitting off each other until eventually clashed. We were in a battle of strength, we stared into each other's eyes, Kasumi was strong, but I was stronger and I forced him back, but before I could continue attacking, I was attacked by October from behind as she knocked me to the ground.

I lay on my back, I had dropped the sword on my way down and was looking frantically for it, I turned to see Kasumi running towards me, he jumped and his sword lunged for my heart. My life fell into a slow motion type trance. I watched as his blade slowly got closer to my heart and I began to think about all my accomplishments, all the wrong I had done and all I had failed to do. I had changed from the 1300s, I was a different man, I had spent centuries getting to where I am and I refused to give it up now, but what had I become? Was it worth fighting for? Was it worth living for? Should I just end it now? What sort of animal had I become? Could I truly give up the power, I had fought so fiercely for? I saw the blade get closer and closer, just before time started normally again for me, I moved. I rolled over and grabbed the discarded sword on the floor, Kasumi went for another attack, I successfully deflected it and knocked him back, I turned around to see Lune being attacked by Moon, Lune was on his back being attacked constantly by Moon, Lune was bloodied and injured. I had to make a choice, a risk, my life or his?

I lifted my sword and threw it, I watched the sword as it pierced Moon's heart, I saw Moon's body fall limp, I turned to see Kasumi running towards me, he lunged his sword, I was defenceless, I tried to jump out of the way but it was too late.

The blade missed my heart but it pierced my stomach, I yelled in pain, I looked at Kasumi and head-butted him, he walked back clutching his nose. I pulled the sword out of my own stomach and ran at him with hit, I slashed it across his chest, multiple times, and I heard him cry in pain. He fell back and I was ready, I stood over him ready to end his life. That's when I heard October shout my name, I turned to see her holding the discarded sword from earlier. I watched as she threw it, however, she didn't throw it at me, I watched the sword as it flew through the air. I couldn't take it, I looked ahead to see who she was aiming for, I watched as Jack began lifting himself of the ground, "JACK! MOVE!” he looked up to me, but before he could react, the sword pierced his heart.

I ran over to him, he was now lying on his back, I held him in my arms, as I watched his skin slowly turn grey. "Well, I guess this is how my story ends, eh Damon" he said breathlessly

"Don't go, Jack please, you’re my friend"

"I'm sorry, Chief..... It's over for me"

"I promise you Jack, I will avenge you" Jack's skin was now pure grey, his eyes turned black, his skin began to crack up and turn to ash, "Good luck...... Chief" Jack's body was gone and nothing but ash remained as it rested in my arms. I felt it disappear as the wind made it scatter and blow through the city. I turned around to find that October and Kasumi were gone. I turned to Razor "What happened Taksua?"

"He's gone, Damon"

"Good, serves the bastard right"

"I'm sorry about Jack"

"He died a brave death", Razor turned and walked over to Lune, where the now human Lune was lying, Razor helped him up and they both walked off disappearing into the night. I looked to where Jack had died, a tear ran down my face "Goodbye ....... my friend"

"Good luck ....... Chief"
