TWO; The Mission!

“Desdemona hurry up, this place gives me the creeps!” Chad hissed behind me.

“Stop being such a baby! It’s only the attic!” I said rolling my eyes at him.

“Yeah, but still…whatever just hurry up.” Chad hissed back.

I was searching for my gear for Red Lace, since it was now open again.

Red lace was where all people that were looking for a good time and stay in the ‘loop’ went (or rather snuck out, because of certain incidents that went down there, parents had basically forbidden their daughters and sons’ from going there-with out much success might I add). But the one thing that makes infamous is the ‘mission’.

The mission is who can do the most outrageous and create the biggest phenomenon; beating/ outperform/outshine all other attempts at the mission.

It is judged in cliques’ by outperforming the last victor. And the prize? To become the unspoken holder of the school.

And as no one has ever beat them, because well let’s admit it this type of thing is down there alley, the Jocks and Cheerleaders.

But this year it is all about to change.

Red lace had finally re-opened, after a slight accident involving the roof, Parachutes and alcohol- you can use your imagination there.

Since it was re-opening everyone was going all out, like never before. Hence why I am in my attic searching for…certain equipment…hidden away from my parents eyes (they are placed in the category of ‘Parents that forbid daughter’).

“Found it!” I exclaimed, holding it up so Chad could see. When Chad did see he burst out in uncontrollable laughter. I smirked in appreciation. Tonight is going to be unforgettable.

“You are one character you are.” Chad said in between laughs as he climbed down the stairs. I was going to start following him down when something caught my eye.

I crawled over to investigate. A basket. I frowned at it’s weird materials and the design, as I lifted the soft ebony blanket from it and examined the soft fabric closely. It felt so welcoming and familiar…

“Desdemona what’s taking you so long, your parents are going to be home soon.” Chad called down from the stairs, interrupting me from my reverie. I stood up taking the fabric with me when I heard a ‘clunk’ on the ground.

I turned around to see a small little shaped thing gleaming on the floor.

“Desdemona?” Chad called worried. I rolled my eyes at him and grabbed what had dropped on the floor, hiding it in the soft fabric.

“What took you so long?” Chad asked when I had finally climbed down the stairs.

“Um nothing. So what do you think?” I indicated tonight’s ‘surprise’, throwing him a mischievous wink.

“It’s times like these when I am proud to call you my best friend!” Chad said chuckling throwing his arm around my shoulders.

Chad and I had grown up together and so I had always known him and his extremely buoyant and protective personality. He had the typical Blondie characteristic’s, nice smile, captain of the Soccer team, blue eyes he was the guy that girls’ swoon over and the type that girls’ would confide in(me).

We walked like that into my room and then we heard the front door close.

“Moana?” Someone called from downstairs.

“I’ll see ya tonight!” Chad whispered before climbing out my window, onto the tree and then into his window. Since we lived next door and our windows (conveniently) faced each other, we had gotten into the habit of climbing over to each others windows.

“Yeah I’m here.” I called back.

Paige (my mum) came into my room. I never really felt at ease with calling Paige mum or Carl, dad. I never told anyone though.

“Moana, Carl I and are going out tonight for dinner at his boss’ house, so…” Paige started but I cut her off before she could suggest that I could come or even worse be babysat by grandma Anis’.

“Oh that’s fine I was planning to go watch some DVDs’ at Chad’s.” I said innocently.

“Oh, okay well be good and the phone number is on the fridge if you need anything.” Paige said before inspecting her reflection in my mirror and fluffing up her brown curls.

“Okay have fun.” I said smirking, “I know I will.” I added when she was out of air shot.

When I knew they were gone I got changed in the most outrageous outfit that would make Paris Hilton look like a saint and inspected my work in the mirror.

“Hmmm…” I said clicking my tongue. Then I remembered something, I went over tom my bed and opened the cashmere smooth fabric to reveal a beautiful violet pendant. I gasped.

It looked as if the pendant was holding a violet cloud inside of it that was gently moving, trapped inside of it.

Why was this in the attic? I wondered. I shrugged, I would find out latter and then I put the pendant on…
