ONE
Addie absent-mindedly tapped her fingertips against the pine table bored already, she slammed her laptop closed, scowling at the clock with each tick reminding her of the time passing. She had been in Welwick for a week and 3 days already and still nothing! Nada. Zip. Not that she was counting of course. Addie wished she was back at boarding school, instead of here; looking out the window imagining what could happen. going to keep it that way. Addie cringed as she only now realized why the magnitude of privacy was needed here. She refused to become a monster and vowed not to let anyone know what she really was. No one. natural to her. Addie let out an exasperated sigh, to know that sun in Welwick was rare, actually a miracle and she was inside sulking over this monster that she knew she could unleash and…Addie stopped herself and cursed herself for lapsing into those thoughts again. She had promised herself. She had made a life pledge to leave all of that behind, but couldn't help wondering why she had been brought back here, of all the places here! But then again what did she expect, after years of communication only through her annual happy birthday cards her father finally takes an interest in her? Why? Addie scoffed at the idea now that she had once been excited to come back. Where she had once belonged, not that she could remember that far back.
Yet the weather and now revealed truth that this wasn't going to be a great adventure that she had thought it out to be, had started to take a toll on her.
Addie wondered if the people knew the real reason why she was here, but shoved that thought away. No one knew why she was here and she was
Addie felt a slight tremble quake through her body
“NO!” Addie gasped she had pledged that it would NOT follow her to Welwick-Whatever 'it was'.
Addie suddenly felt a sudden warmth on her arm, and she whipped her head in the direction, only to add to her Disappointment...SUN! SUN IN Welwick?!
'Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, someone comes and puts a cherry on top!' Addie added sardonically.
Addie idly rested her chin in her hands as she glared at the clock again, knowing she was in full control now-something that had been Instinctive and
Addie stared out the window, longing to go outside, despite her promises to her ‘Father’. So many promises and vows and pledges!
Addie had even promised herself that things were going to change, that she was going to be a whole new Addie, and watch out Welwick...
Suddenly something dawned on Addie, as she impatiently bounced off her chair and stumbled her way to the front door not hesitating to open it.
'Fine, new motto-Carpe Diem!...and since no one can do that for me, I’ll do it all by myself, thank you very much!' Addie proudly pledged, erasing all other vows, as she stepped out of her own personal prison and into Welwick.
