Chapter Twelve

I opened my eyes to see I was taken to the river. The grass next to the river was lavender; the trees surrounding it were light blue with pink leaves. I always thought that this was probably made up by a girl, since it was so colorful. Made me think it was a lot like an Easter egg.

I walked over to the river and sat near the edge. It was calm and peaceful here. There was no reason for me to be afraid. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. I didn’t know what to do. The sisters were all wanted to destroy me, whether it was physically, mentally, or emotionally; they wanted me dead.

My vision blurred and tears began trailing down my cheeks. I didn’t know why I was crying; maybe it was my baby. Since my baby couldn’t cry, I would cry for it. I put my hand to my stomach as I wept. By harming me, they were also harming my baby. I had only known for a few days that I was pregnant, but I already felt so attached to my unborn child.

I heard soft footsteps behind me. I turned in surprise, to see Telemanken. He looked down at me, his eyes full of sympathy. He knelt down on one knee and bowed his head. “I apologize for everything that my sisters have done to you. They have no right to do the things that they have done to you, especially in your current…condition.” Telemanken said.

I wiped my tears and smiled at him, even though he couldn’t see it with his head bowed. I reached my hand out and lifted his head, so we were looking into each other’s eyes. “Thank you. You’ve been very kind to me. I’m happy to have a friend like you.” I touched his gently, giving him a warm smile.

Telemanken put his hand over mine. “Yeah, and you don’t need to worry about me wanting to be more than friends with you.”

I felt relieved, confused, and a little angry. “Why, am I not your type? Or do you only like to flirt with girls?” I said sarcastically.

Telemanken laughed and dropped his hand. I took my hand off his cheek, not getting the joke. Telemanken looked at me and gave me a big smile. “You were right on the first guess. You are far, far, far from my type.” I was a little annoyed that he didn’t find me attractive, but I was mostly happy because I didn’t have to worry about him trying anything. “Then what was with all the flirting a few days ago?”

Telemanken still smiled at me. “Sorry about that. You’ve probably already guessed that my sisters put me up to try and seduce you; that’s pretty much the only reason. I was suppose to act like I was interested in you, so that was why I was always flirting with you. I’m a pretty good actor, aren’t I?”

“Yes, you are. Well, if I’m not your type, then what type of girls are you into?” I asked curiously.

“Well, truth be told, no girl is my type. I’m into guys.”

I stared at him, dumbfound and a loss for words. That was something very unexpected. I opened my mouth and closed it. I had nothing to really say; I didn’t know what to say. I shook my head.

“Shocker, isn’t it. Yet, it does make sense. I mean, why do you think the brothers weren’t to protective about you hanging around me. They knew I wouldn’t try anything with you. My sisters just thought that you were interested in me. If you were too busy flirting with me, thinking I was interested, then you would spend less time with the brothers. As you can see, their plan backfired.”

I nodded my head, still a little shocked. “Well, you’ve settled a lot of my worries.”

“I’m glad. Now we can be just friends.” Telemanken said.

I nodded my head again. “Yes. Since we are friends, then can you help me with something?” I asked.

Telemanken looked confused. “What can I help you with?”

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I want to know what my life was like, when I was Diantha. I’ve been getting flashbacks, but I was to see everything, know everything. Since you can look into people’s memories, and I can see the memories you look at, I want you to look at those.” I said.

Telemanken bit his lower lip. “I’m not sure if I can. I’ve never done anything like that before.”

I put a hand on his shoulder for reassurance. “You can do it. I believe that you can do it.”

He smiled and nodded his head. “I’ll try. Now, close your eyes and clear your mind. You’re going to have to remain perfectly still and control your breathing.”

I did everything that he told me. I felt him put his hands on either side of my head. Already I could feel his power begin to work. It still felt strange having someone look into your memories; even with permission, I felt like it was an invasion of privacy. That didn’t matter though; I wanted answers and I was about to get them.

We sat like that for a while as Telemanken looked through my memories. Now I know what people mean when they say that their life flashes before their eyes. I saw flashes of all my memories starting with the most recent and counting down to when I was child. Then after that, the memories stopped. I heard Telemanken grunt as he tried to go deeper into my memories.

In my mind, I could see a wall. The wall looked old and had cracks already in it. It was the thing that was blocking my memories, when I was Diantha. Telemanken tried harder, trying to break though it. The wall started to crack even more, pieces were falling off it.

“Only a little bit more.” I heard him say in my mind.

Finally the wall broke completely and shattered. There was flash of light, and the memories began flashing through my mind.

It has been months, since I’ve met the Oneiroi. Every time I see them, the temptation grows. I have to stay away from them no matter what. I swore to Artemis that I would keep my chastity, and plan on not disappoint my goddess; if I do the consequences will be dire.

I lay under a tree, the same tree where I met the brothers. Just thinking about them made a shiver go down my spine. I closed my eyes, thinking about each one of them. I wonder what it would be like to touch them, to kiss them. I shook my head, trying to rid of the daydream. I didn’t even now them, yet I wanted to already fornicate with them.

“You seem to be thinking about something.”

I sat up and saw a man leaning against a tree, only a few feet away. He looked very much like Phobetor, with the exception that he had shoulder length black hair and silver eyes; other than that, they looked exactly the same.

“Who are you?” I asked.

The man smiled and walked over to me. He knelt down, so we were at eye level. “I’m Icelus. I believe you have already met my brothers. I’m Phobetor’s twin brother.” Icelus said.

“I figured. You look just like Phobetor.”

The smile on his face wilted a bit. “Yes, as I said we are twins. You must be that nymph that my brothers have been going on about. Diantha, I believe your name is.”

“Yes, that’s me. Wait, your brothers have been talking about me?” I asked.

He nodded, “They seem to be quite infatuated with you.”

I blushed, my heart filling with happiness. I had thought that I was the one that was infatuated with them, yet it seems that they in return are infatuated with me. Sorry Artemis, hopefully you can forgive me.

“You seem quite happy about the news. That’s not why I’m here though.” Icelus said.

I looked up at him. “Huh? Then why are you here?”

He gave me a wicked smile, and there was a gleam in his eyes that made me want to stay away from him. “I’m here to tell you who you really are.”

I was completely confused. “Who I really am? What are you talking about? I’m Diantha, one of Artemis’ nymphs.”

Icelus shook his head and make a clicking sound with his tongue. “That’s what they want you to think. The gods know who you are, and they will be scared of what you will be able to do if you find out your true identity.”

“And you know who I am?”

“Of course, all high level gods know who you are. The only one who doesn’t, is you. That is because Zeus decided to lock your memories away instead of killing you. At the time he didn’t see you as a threat and thought that killing you wouldn’t be necessary.”

I shook my head and stood. “I don’t believe you. You’re a trickster. If you say only high level gods know, then how did you find out?”

Icelus stood and dusted himself off. “I have my sources. If you talk to the right god, and give them what you want, then they’ll tell you anything you want.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “Then please tell me, who am I?”

“You are Diantha, the daughter of Gaia. You were created to release the titans and get revenge on the gods.” I stood in shock, not believing what I was hearing. “Icelus smiled, “Try to remember, and when you do, look me up. I have a deal I want to make with you.”

The memory ended; Telemanken and I were on the ground gasping to breath. Telemanken started laughing. “Well that was interesting.” He said.

“Yeah, very interesting.” I said. I sat up and controlled my breathing. “How come I’ve never seen or heard of Icelus before? He said he was Phobetor’s twin brother.”

“That is because I knew if I stayed around, then I would be killed along with Diantha.”

Telemanken and I turned around, to see Icelus leaning against a tree.
