Chapter Six
“Wake your highness. It’s time to start your princess training.”
Someone opened the curtains and the bright sunlight poured through. I tried to hide under my covers, but someone yanked them off of me. I sat up and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. I blinked a couple of times as I yawned and stretched. I looked at the end of my bed and was shocked to find at least fifteen maids at the end all bowing their heads.
“Now your highness, we must get started immediately.”
I looked to my side and saw a woman with short brown hair, brown cat ears, and a brown tail with a white tip. She wasn’t dressed like the maids. She wore a long black dress that fit her very nicely. She stood straight and held her head high.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“I’m Etana. I will be the one who will take care of your schedule and make sure the training goes smoothly. Now your highness, we must get you dressed.” she said.
Etana snapped her fingers and six of the maids were holding bath items. Etana took my hand and lead me to a room with a huge bath in it. There were flower petals in the bath that made it smell really nice. I stared in amazement at how big the bath was. I was surprise that this thing was all for me.
“Strip her.” Etana said.
Two other maids took off my clothes and led me to the bath. I got in and the maids that were holding the bath items began to scrub me. I couldn’t tell you how many times I was dunked under the water. When the bath was done, they led me to a table that I failed to notice. They told me to lay down on it, on my stomach. I did as I was told and they began to rub different oils and lotions into my skin. They told me to flip over onto my back. I was a little hesitant, but I did it anyway. Some of the areas they rubbed the oil into made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I had the urge to cover myself. Even though all the people in the room were women, I still felt embarrassed.
“Your breasts are a bit small for a girl your age.” Etana said.
“Huh?” I said blushing. Her comment made me want to cover myself even more.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure after your marriage to Lord Tamesis, they’ll get bigger.”
“What does that mean?”
“Haven’t you heard your highness? They say that once a woman is with a man, her breasts will get bigger.”
I couldn’t help, but blush because I understood what she meant. She meant after I had sex with him. But how could I get married to a man that I don’t even know, let alone have sex with him? I was embarrassed beyond belief even thinking about it.
When I got off the table, five maids began to dress me, while another was brushing my hair. I had to keep myself from screaming as my hair was being tugged on. Also, I had to wear a corset. That was the most uncomfortable thing I had ever worn. I could barely breath in that thing. It also pushed my breasts up to show more cleavage than I was comfortable with. I wore a purple dress that matched my hair and high heel shoes that I had a hard time walking in. My hair was put up in an elaborate sort of hairstyle.
“Follow me your highness. We have much to do today.” Etana said.
I followed Etana down a hall and into one of the rooms at the end. The room was spacious and head huge windows on one of the walls. In there were a couple of maids that bowed when we entered. Etana lead me to the middle of the room.
“First, you will learn how to walk like a royal. You must have your back straight and your head held high. No, no, no. Let me show you.”
Etana adjusted my shoulders and straightened my back a little. She tilted my head up a bit. She gestured to one of the maids, who was carrying a book. She set the book on top of my head. Suddenly, I pictured one of those princess movies where she had to walk without making the book fall off. How hard could that be?
“Now walk with your back straight and your head just like that.” Etana said.
I began to walk. I only walked two steps before I tripped in the high heels and fell flat on my face. I looked up at Etana and the look on her face was not a happy one. She helped me up, and once again, she put the book on my head and told me to walk. Well, at least this time I didn’t fall on my face. But the book did fall off my head. The training didn’t stop until what felt like an eternity later.
“Now it is time to have breakfast with Lord Tamesis.” Etana said.
She lead me down some more halls and into the dining room. Tamesis was already sitting, and talking to someone. He laughed at what the man said and stopped when he saw me enter. He waved his hand at the man and he left the room. Tamesis smiled at me and got up from his seat. He walked over to me and took my hand. He raised my hand to his lips and kissed it.
“You look very lovely my dear.” He said.
He lead me to the table and took out my chair for me like you see guys do in the old fashion movies when they want to act like gentlemen. When I sat down, he walked to his end of the table where a butler pulled out his chair. Once seated, he rang a small bell that another butler had on a pillow. The chime from the bell made people come through the doors that were closest to the table. They brought out plates of various different foods: Fruits, meats, bread, some other things I couldn’t identify. They laid it all out before us, and I found it hard to believe that they would make so much food for just two people. I went to grab an apple that was in bowl in front of me, but Etana smacked my hand.
“Before you eat you must wash your hands.” Etana said.
A servant set a bowl full of water in front of me. I looked at Etana and she made a gesture for me to dip my hands in the bowl. I dipped my hands in the bowl and took the napkin that was lying next to it to dry them off.
“So, how is your first morning here coming along Ara.” Tamesis asked.
“Huh?” I was surprised and dropped my napkin on the floor.
I bent down to get it. “No, your highness let one of the servants…”
At the same time a servant went to grab the napkin and we accidentally head butted each other. I put my hand on my hand and went to sit back in my chair. Unfortunately, I sat on the edge and slipped off of it. I reached out to grab something to hold on to. I ended up grabbing the table cloth; it brought some of the food with me. The bowl that I washed my hands in landed on my head and the water splashed all over me. So now I was wet, and partially covered in food.
“Your highness, are you alright?” Multiple servants were running toward me trying to help me up.
Somebody took the bowl off my head when I stood up. I looked at Etana. She was not happy with me in the least. If looks could kill, I would definitely be dead right now. Someone laughed and I looked over to see Tamesis trying his best not to fall out of his chair from laughing. Well at least someone was enjoying themselves.
Etana walked over to me and grabbed my arm. “Lets get you cleaned up your highness. I swear, your first day here and you’re already making a disgrace of yourself.” Etana said.
“Don’t be too hard on her Etana. She’s just a little nervous is all.” Tamesis said.
Etana made a humph sound and started to drag me out of the dining room. She led me back to my room. Etana summoned more maids, who helped me change into a different outfit. They also redid my hair, since that was also a bit of a mess. Yeah, I was a total disaster.
“Now we have to teach you about your family and about our culture. Come, your teacher is waiting.” Etana said.
I followed Etana out of the room and into the hall. I was looking down at the ground and ran into someone.
“Oh, sorry.” I said looking up. I couldn’t help but smile at who is was. “Leon!”
I gave him a hug. He awkwardly hugged me back, trying to decide whether or not it was okay to hug me back. What was a hug when we have kissed before? When we broke the hug, I smiled at him. I missed him. He seemed to be the only person I felt comfortable around in this place.
“So, how’s princess training?” He asked.
“Not good. I can’t seem to walk the right way because the book keeps falling off my head. Breakfast was the absolute worst. I dropped my napkin, head butted a servant, fell off my chair, pulled on the table cloth, which made some of the food fall to the ground, and a bowl of water fell on my head.” I said.
I looked at Leon. He had turned his away, so his back was facing me. From his shaking, I knew he was trying to cover up the fact that he was laughing at me. I didn’t feel like having anyone else laugh at me. I hit him with the back of my hand.
“Don’t laugh at me. It’s still morning and I’ve already made a complete fool of myself.” I said.
“Aw, Ara, you were already one when you got here.” he said patting my head.
I crossed my arms. “What’s that suppose to mean?”
“Sorry, but I have to go. Good luck princess.”
He ran off and I watched him go. I let out a sigh and smiled. I heard Etana yell at me from down the hall. I turned around and walked toward her. With Leon in the palace, this place my not turn out to be so bad.
