I was floating, my head pounding, in a sea of my own blood. The sound of angels singing filled my ears as I realized someone was stroking my face. Soft gentle hands.
I opened my eyes to find myself staring at the face of the mother I had known before I was adopted.
"Welcome, Princess," she said. "But it's a welcome too soon come. I'm afraid you'll have to go back. Your time hasn't come yet."
She smiled.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"Aglica," she answered. "Heaven."
"Why am I here?"
"You're dead darling."
"WHAT?!"
Her face was sympathetic.
"Constantine killed you, my sweet. You've died." She looked away and swiped a hand through the blood. "By the way, he was innocent. He didn't rape Thebes, a toxin called 'Sanglishin' was injected into her blood stream. It makes the inflicted see everyone as the one they love." She sighed. "But Constantine opened up doors for you. You're ready for your birth rite now. Your powers will come to you now." She was smiling.
"Powers? Birth rite?"
"All in good time, my dear. All in good time." A sudden fire lit my veins, and I felt power returning to me. "Go back to him, my dear. And this time, wait to die until its your time."
"Will I see you again."
"Yes, baby, yes." She smiled. My thoughts began to fade again, I felt my heart stuttering.
"Goodbye," I whispered. One beat, jerking me away.
"Goodbye," she answered, stroking my cheek.
Two beats, starting to breathe.
Just as she disappeared, she shouted,
"Beware Vellhella. He's after more than you think."
Then my heart was beating again, and I was breathing and alive.
