Day 1: Angel Eyes
When you die, your life flashes before you, but I don’t see anything yet. Maybe the saying is wrong. You have to think about your life just before you die.
This was the second time, I hate it. The first time was just normal. I slipped and fell, simple story.
All I remember was the baby crying, but I know that once I open my eyes everything will come back to me.
“Aw, damn you Desoto” a female voice was the first thing that I heard. My eyes weren’t open yet, but who was she? Had I fallen again and caught a serious case of amnesia? The kind where it’s permanent? Wait, that’s the same thing.
“What’s wrong now Gaze?” a male voice entered my audio range. Did I him as well? Where was I? I couldn’t feel anything, I didn’t know if I was laying down or sitting up.
“You grabbed a green one, we agreed on loners. So they wouldn’t be noticed missing” there was a clatter and the sound of papers falling to the ground. I wanted to wake up, found out where I was.
“Did you miss me?” Kayden whispered to me. She was in my mind, her motherly smile always made me want to smile.
“I did. This time, is it real?” I asked, my thoughts all transfixed on her smile.
“No, it’s not” she stepped closer to me “I have something for you” her smile broke.
She was an angel, my angel. I knew so much about her from last time.
“Although your eyesight is fine, I will give you the visual application you will need soon enough” she kissed both my eyes, like a mother does to kiss her child goodnight.
Then I felt it, my first heartbeat. Then I felt the cold, I was laying on something hard. My first intake of air and I coughed.
“Ugh, Desoto” a male voice spoke. He was in his late teens. “The kid’s alive” I stopped coughing. I moved my right arm and touched the back of my head. Nope, there wasn’t a big dent or hole. I didn’t fall. I moved my left, pain came next. Ouch.
“I swear she was dead before” the female said. I think her name was Glaze. She was in her late thirties, she sounded worried.
“It doesn’t matter that you screwed up” the male voice I presumed to be Desoto was in his mid thirties.
“That makes me feel so much better” I said sarcastically. There was light, I covered my eyes with my good arm and tried to sit up.
“Good to know you’re normal” Desoto was next to me, his scent was almost opaque. “Open your eyes” I felt his fingers try to pry my eyes open.
“Bring her to Tyson” Glaze shouted. My eyes were still closed, I squeezed them tighter when Desoto picked me up and carried me off.
“Okay, now open your eyes” he said. I wasn’t afraid, which was odd for me considering I was kidnapped. Wait, was I?
