It had been two days since Fenrir departed from his nameless village. He had been there all his life and rarely left. He dragged himself into the nearest town, Yeyven, weak and helpless. He was starving and had not eaten since dinner the night Eros had shown up.

Fenrir walked into the quiet town, limping and still carrying his sheathed sword. People glanced at him as he arrived. Some seemed to mistake him for a hobo of some sort, but others stared at him, not sure whether he was okay.

The young boy approached a woman, who was watching him carefully. “Please, miss,” Fenrir rasped, “I need to find the local diner, if you could point me in the right direction…”

The woman didn’t speak. She simply pointed behind her to a building with a blinking neon red “OPEN” sign on it.

Fenrir had no time to thank her. He hastened towards the door to the building. He pulled open the door and fell to the ground in the diner.

        “You okay kid?!”

Fenrir looked up. All around the diner, in wooden seats and chairs, large, bulky men sat, chugging down large pints. Standing in front of Fenrir was a massive man with an apron on. He was fat and short with a large round bald head and a stone jaw face. He was quite possibly the oddest looking man Fenrir had seen.

The man reached down and pulled Fenrir to his feet. Fenrir towered over the man, making him seem like a giant in the room.

“What you be doin’ in a pub, boy?” The man asked.

Fenrir scratched his head. “But that lady outside told me this was a-”

“A what? A diner? Boy, this is the Boar’s Pub,” He slapped Fenrir on the shoulder, “Only the toughest of the toughest bounty hunters and warriors come here!”

The man started to examine Fenrir’s structure. He noticed his blade. “Ah! So you’ve got a blade, you’re dirty, have some muscle,” He scratched his chin, “I’m guessing you’re one of them Hunters, eh?”

        “No, I’m against kill animals.”

“Against it? Boy, its survival in the wild! Besides, I’m not talking about that kind of hunting.”

“What are you talking about then?”

        “Treasure.”

        “Treasure?”

“Yeah, that gold stuff you’d find at the end of rainbow!” The man leaned in towards Fenrir. “Unless you’re one of those ‘posers’ who say crap and are weak.”

“Why would you assume that?” Fenrir asked.

“Because, kid,” The man leaned away, “Because the guys here would have to kill ya! Right Hanky?” He leaned over towards a man who was entirely muscle.

“Right!” The man chugged down his pint and slammed it on the table. “Hit me up, Jenzy!”

Hanky? Jenzy? Fenrir thought to himself, Who are these guys? He looked around and saw the rest of the strong warriors and bounty hunters drinking and laughing with each other. Man, now I’m thirsty…

“Hey err… Jenzy?” Fenrir started, “Can you get me something?”

“Sure kid,” Jenzy said going behind the counter, “What can I get ya? Pint, scotch, anything strong?”

Fenrir walked up to the counter and sat at a stool. He scratched his head and gave Jenzy a confused glance.

“Oh, I fergot, yer just a kid,” He smacked himself on his bald head, “Can’t be serving you that kind of stuff. Might as well go get you a juice box or something…” Jenzy went through a door behind the counter and disappeared.

A chill went down Fenrir’s spine as Jenzy disappeared. There was someone next to him. They had chuckled and put down their glass. Fenrir glanced towards the person next to him and let out a slight gasp as he saw the person.

The guy next to him was a boy. He seemed around his age and was dressed in a cloak. His hair was black and spiked up. He, too, had a sword at his side.

“So, its odd there is another kid in here?” The boy asked.

Fenrir shrugged. “I dunno, really. I just wandered into here after… after…” Fenrir stopped.

The boy shrugged. “It’s personal, right? Listen here,” The boy turned towards him, “I’ll tell you mine too, then you tell me mine. That way, we can be even. Agreed?” He held out a hand to shake.

Fenrir didn’t care at this point. He just wanted to let someone know what he was going through. He shook his hand and nodded.

He confessed everything. How he woke up, when Eros showed up, and how he had accidentally killed his brother. He even told him about why Eros was gone; looking for a Valescar.

The boy sighed. “Wow, this was recently?”  He asked.

        Fenrir nodded.

The boy sighed. “Well, about two days ago, around the same time as you, I guess, my parents were beating me; they abused me because they were heavy drinkers, which, sadly, was getting worse as time goes on. I had just had it at that point. I actually packed up and started to leave. I even took my father’s sword, in which he used to beat me with… But I fought back that time,” The boy lifted his head up, “And I’m proud! I’m living by myself out here and I don’t have to deal with those curses that were put on me!

“But I’m being rude; I haven’t even introduced myself!” He held his hand out again. “My name is Lguan.”

Fenrir shook his hand. “My names Fenrir,” He released his grip, “I’m just glad to know people my age are out here.”

“Yeah, it makes me feel safe too,” Lguan said, somewhat relaxed. “But what was it that you said your brother was looking for again?”

        “It was called a Valescar.”

“Hmmm,” Lguan scratched his head, “I think I’ve heard of it before. I was recently in the local library here in Yeyven and I thought I saw a book about it. We should go check it out after Jenzy comes out with your drink.”

As he said that, Jenzy emerged with a mug of a bubbling drink. He put it down on the counter in front of Fenrir and chuckled. “Bottoms up, kid; it’s a good energy burst!”

Since he was still thirsty, Fenrir drank it. In an instant, he felt himself becoming stronger and relaxed. “Wow, this is awesome Jenzy!” He handed the mug to Jenzy and let out a hick-up. “Fill me up again and get me something to eat!”
