Being a demon in a human world can be tough.  You can’t use your powers or show what you really look like.  It sucks.  My parents are demons, too. Well, my dad is.  My mom is a vampire.  That means I am a half-breed, or halfling.  Now that sucks more.

I was starting a new school in a new town.  I hated my parents because they always moved.  Every year was a new adventure for me.  This year I got to start my second year in high school.  I was only 15, though, so I was young for a sophomore.

“SILVIA! GET UP!” my mother yelled at me.  I sat up in my bed and looked at my alarm clock.  6 in the morning, I thought, this is a new one.  I got up and got dressed in the usual clothes that I wore.  Blue jeans, black belt, black boots, gray tank top and a black hoodie.  I quickly brushed my shoulder length brown hair.  I stared into the mirror at the purple tips of my hair.  Everybody I met thought that I dyed my tips to get this color.  No one believed me when I told them that it was natural.  When I got downstairs, my mom was heading to bed.  Night mom. I thought to myself.  I walked into the kitchen and found my dad sitting at the table reading the paper.

“Dad, where’s Armeana?” I asked.  She was usually eating when I got up.  My father looked over his paper at me with his dark eyes.  He stared at me for a moment before going back to his reading.

“I believe that she’s downstairs watching television.” He replied.  I didn’t say anything else to him.  He scared me a bit.  He was a very powerful wolf demon.  I, on the other hand, was half as strong as him.  Well, that would be true for only me demon half.  My mother was powerful, too, meaning my vampire half was half as strong as she was.  I guess that I was pretty powerful, but I could never take on someone like them.  I would be killed.

I walked down into the den and saw Armeana sitting on the couch watching TV.  She didn’t seem to notice me.  She sat there in a pair of blue jeans, black boots, a red shirt and a black hoodie.  Her hair was to her chin and was brown with red tips.  Her hair looked more natural than mine did.  She finally noticed me and looked up at my purple eyes with her red ones.  Her eyes were her fathers eyes, meaning, she had the eyes of a vampire.  I took after my father’s eyes too.  She was a halfling just like me, except for the fact that both her parents are dead, her father was the vampire, and her mother was a fox demon.  Her parents were killed back in the demon world.  There, it was illegal for a vampire and a demon to love one another.  This made it difficult for Armeana and I to be alive.  That was one of the reasons we always moved.  She took her attention off of me and focused on the television again.  I’ve always noticed that her and I looked alike.  If people didn’t mistake us for twins, they thought that we were dating.  It was hard to live like this.

“How long have you been down here?” I finally asked her.  I sat down beside her.  She shrugged her shoulders.

“Awhile, I guess.  Are you ready?” she asked me.  I leaned back and closed my eyes.  I didn’t want to start a new school.  I didn’t like people, so it was hard for me to make friends.

“I think so.  So, when did you wake up?”

“Before the sun came up.”  I sat up and gave her a weird look.

“You really should get more sleep.”  I was always the one out of the two of us that sleep a lot.  I’ve lived with her for a long time and I’ve hardly ever seen her sleep.  We sat on the couch for a while, not saying anything.  Armeana stood and walked to the stairs.

“Lets go!” she hollered back at me.  I groaned and obediently followed her.

“Welcome to Tree Grove High!” someone greeted at the door.  It was some blond girl.  She looked very cheerful can preppy.  Armeana and I stood in shock as she started to ramble on about the school.

“Uh…..” we tried to get her to stop, but she just kept going.  Eventually, I spaced out.  I’m sure Armeana did the same thing.

“So, what do you think?” the girl asked.  I jumped a bit.  Armeana didn’t seem to notice.  The blond girl stood, waiting for us to reply.

“It’s…um…great?” I told her.  She jumped up and down with joy.  She looked really happy.  And before we knew it, she rambled on some more about the school.  A small freshman seemed to have caught her eye because she went running for him.  I shook Armeana out of her trance and walked into the school.  Once inside, we took a quick look at our schedules.  We had some classes together.  We would get to see each other during history, Spanish, English, biology, art and lunch.  I had orchestra and study hall without her.  She had a different study hall and heath without me.  But, thankfully our first class was history.

We walked through the halls and watched as all the human children passed by.  They all looked excited about today.  I couldn’t see why, though.  When we reached our class, we realized that we were the only ones in there.  We took seats in the back of the class.  That way, hopefully we wouldn’t be called on or have to do anything.  we sat for a while before two boys came in.  one had black hair and the other was blond.  The boy with black hair sat in front of Armeana.  His hair was about medium length, same as the blond.  The blond boy wondered the class for a few moments.  It looked as though he was trying to find a seat, even though all of them were empty.  He finally stopped and sat himself down in front of me.  We sat in silence before the black haired boy turned around.  His eyes were a deep green.  Armeana didn’t take notice to him staring at her.

“Hi!  I’m Ivan!” he introduced himself.  Armeana turned her head to him and looked him straight in the eyes.  She quickly looked away.  Her face turned bright red, almost the color of her eyes.  Ivan turned to me.  “What’s her problem?”  I looked at Armeana then back to him and smiled.  She looked at me and shook her head.  She didn’t want me to say anything.

“Well…”  Armeana gave me a dirty look.  “I guess you can say that…she thinks you’re good looking.”  Armeana slammed her hand on the table.

“SILVIA!” she screamed.  I started laughing.  She buried her face in her arms.

“So, your name is Silvia?” the boy in front of me asked.  His voice sounded intrigued by this.

“Depends on who’s asking.” I answered.  He gave a small laugh, but never turned around.  I looked over and saw Ivan and Armeana talking.  Armeana looked at me and pointed to Ivan’s chair.  She wanted me to move so that he could sit next to her.  I just rolled my eyes and moved.  The blond boy turned to me and offered his hand for me to shake it.

“I’m Jason.” He said.  I gave him a dirty look and turned away.  He didn’t seem to take a hint though.  “Silvia is a nice name.  Very original.”  I continued to ignore him.

“Don’t mind her.  She’s just bitchy in the morning.” Armeana informed him.  Jason looked at me until I couldn’t stand it anymore and turned around.

“Do you have a staring problem?” I asked him.  I looked deep into his bright blue eyes.  He didn’t look away.  I was getting aggravated.  “Listen here, you-“  before I could finish, the bell rang and kids started to fill up the room.

The first four periods went by fast.  After history, I had orchestra and Armeana had study hall.  The only bad thing about that was that she had it with Jason and Ivan.  I didn’t mind Ivan that much, but from what I heard from Armeana third period during English was that Jason wanted to know more about me.  Thankfully they weren’t in that class with us.  Fourth period we had art with Jason.  He would still greet me and say something nice, and I would still just give him some bitchy smart ass reply and ignore him.  Armeana told me that I should try to at least be a little nice, but I didn’t feel like making friends with him.  When fourth period was over, we say Ivan waiting for us outside our classroom.  He greeted Armeana with a hug and Jason with a high five.  He didn’t even bother doing anything with me because Armeana told him that if he touched me I would rip his arm off.

We walked to lunch together.  Jason, Ivan and Armeana were talking up a storm.  I remained quiet.  Jason would try to say something to me to get me into the conversation, but it never worked.  I started to get the impression that he liked me or something.  When we reached the cafeteria, Ivan and Armeana quickly found an empty table and sat down. The two of them sat next to each other.  I sat in front of Armeana and Jason sat next to me.  Armeana and Ivan were lost in conversation, ignoring Jason and I.

“So, how come you won’t talk?” he asked.  I turned my eyes to him, studied him, then looked away.

“How come you won’t shut up?” I asked him.  He laughed a little.  I could feel his eyes move up and down my body.  I shivered a bit.

“You know, what did I do to piss you off so much, huh?  All I said to you was hi, and you have to o be a bitch to me.  What the fuck is your problem?”  I turned in my seat and faced him.

“So what if I have a problem.  Who the fuck said that I wanted to be friends with you anyways?”  Armeana and Ivan turned to us and listened.  “I never wanted to come here in the first place, and you’ve just given me more reason to want to leave.”

          “Silvia.”

“I mean, you are so fucking annoying.  Can’t you take a hint?  I don’t want to talk to you. You bug the crap out of me.”

          “Silvia.”

“Why don’t you just shut the fuck up and leave me alone!”

“SILVIA!!!!!”  My head shot around to Armeana, who was now out of her seat.  “Calm down!  Right now!”

“Don’t tell me what to do!”  Shut up! I thought to myself.  I didn’t want to get into an argument with Armeana, it wouldn’t end well.

“I said calm the fuck down.” She yelled, shoving me.

“And I said don’t fucking tell me what to do!”  Her eyes started to glow red.  I backed down and tried to control myself.  If I said anything  else, her and I would have changed and would have exposed ourselves.  I tried to hid the fact that my purple eyes were shining as bright as the sun.  “I’m going home. I can’t take it here anymore.”  Armeana calmed down.

“It’s only the first day of school.  Where are you going to go?”

“I’m going home!”  And with that, I ran out of the school.  Armeana sat down and buried her head in her hands.

“What am I going to do with her?” she said to herself.  Ivan and Jason sat next to her, but didn’t say anything.  When she got home, she didn’t say anything to me.  She just walked up the her room and locked the door.  My parents called the school and told them that I was going to get home schooled.

A few weeks passed.  Armeana finally got over my outburst at school.  She told me that Jason wanted to say he was sorry, but I told her that he didn’t do anything, so I wasn’t going to listen to him.  She told him that and he just told her that he still wanted to say he was sorry.  I didn’t matter to me, though, I wasn’t going to go see him.  Armeana said that I had to see him because he won’t shut up about me at school, so she arranged for them to come over without me knowing.  Our parents thought that it was good that at least one of us was making friends.  I would just smirk and ignore them as usual.

The day finally came that Ivan and Jason would visit.  I was asleep in my room, as usual, listening to music when Armeana ran into my room and flicked on the lights.  I shot out of bed and hit the floor, taking my Ipod with me.  She just laughed at me and left the room, closing the door behind her.  I turned my light off and went back to bed.  Moments later, she came back in and flicked the light on.  I pulled the blankets over my head and tried to go back to sleep.  I heard loud footsteps get closer, then nothing.  For a short moment, I heard nothing.  It sounded so quiet, almost dead quiet.  But, then all of a sudden, I felt a lot of pain.  Something heavy was laying on top of me.  I heard it laugh.  It was Armeana.  With all of my force, I pushed her off of me and onto the floor.  She was still laughing.  I got up, stepped on her, and walked out of my room.  She followed behind me, still laughing.   I sat at the table in a pair of red plaid pajama pants and a black tank top.  Armeana finally stopped laughing and sat next to me.

“Get dressed.” My father ordered, never looking up from his paper.  I ignored him and poured myself from cereal.  I heard my father put his paper down and I could feel his deep purple eyes pierce through me.  “You heard me, get dressed.”  I set down my bowl and looked at him.

“It’s Saturday.  What is so important that I have to get dressed?” I asked him.  He lifted his paper back up.  Armeana looked at me and started to laugh again.  “What is so funny?”

“Don’t get mad.” She told me.  I looked at her, but went back to making my cereal.  She continued laughing.  After I poured my milk in, I sat on the counter and started eating.  After a few moments of non-stop laughing, Armeana took a few deep breaths and looked back over at me.  “Okay, I’m done.  Now, you can’t get mad when I tell you this.”

“You already said that.  What is it that you want to tell me?”

“Don’t get mad.”

“You’ve made this clear.  Tell me and I’ll think about not getting mad.  What is so important that I have to get up early, get dressed, and not get mad?”

“Well, you remember Ivan and Jason, right?”  I dropped my spoon into the bowl.  I threw my full bowl of cereal and milk into the sink and walked to my room.  I slammed and locked the door behind me.  My father started laughing, but still never looked up from his paper.

“I told you that she would get mad.  She is going to kill Jason when he gets here.  What are you going to do?”  Armeana placed her chin in her hand and thought.

“I don’t know.  I guess the only thing that I can do is warn him not to piss her off more than he already did.  I’ll go try to convince her to go to the mall with us.  It’s going to take a lot.”  She thought for a while longer.  “Hey, dad?  Can I borrow a hundred dollars?”  He put his paper down and reached into his pocket.  He pulled out a hundred dollar bill and handed to her.  She already had a ton of money, probably in the thousands.  So did I.  The only reason she wanted this was so that I would come with her.  Or, it was for me to be nice to Jason.  Whatever it was, she knew that I would take it, I was always begging for more money even though I didn’t need it.

I hear Armeana knocking on my door.  I had my headphones on, but she was knocking loud enough for me to hear with them turned all the way up.  I tried my hardest to ignore her, but I knew that if I didn’t open it, sooner or later she would knock down the door.  I mean, she’s done it before.  I turned my Ipod off and opened the door.

“What do you want?” I asked.  she held the hundred dollar bill in my face.  I grabbed it and closed my door.  A few minutes later, I walked out dressed in a pair of blue jeans, black vans, a black belt, a purple tank top and a black hoodie.  I was still in the process of brushing my hair.  When I was finished, I grabbed my wallet and shoved the hundred in there with the rest of the thousands of dollars I had.

“You have to be nice, you know.  You took the money.” She informed me.  I just rolled my eyes at her.  “They’ll be here soon.  That will give you time to calm down.”

“You don’t think that I’m calm?” I asked her.  My tone wasn’t helping my case.  She laughed at me and walked down stairs.

“What’s going on?”  It was my mother.  Her voice was very soft.  It was about one in the after noon.  I took after my mother when it came to sleeping.  I was never one to go outside during the day.  I opened the door to her bedroom and sat down on the bed next to her.

“Well, two boys are coming with us to the mall, and I think I might kill somebody today.” I informed her.  I was pitch black in her room, but I knew that she was giving me a dirty look.  “You know that I’m kidding, mom.  I know the rules.”  She didn’t care.  She laid back down in her bed and went back to sleep.  I stood up from her bed and left her room.  Down stairs, I say Armeana watching TV.  She was bored out of her mind waiting.  She was watching some cartoon.  I sat next to her and tried to calm down.

“You awake yet?” she asked me.

“No.  When are they getting here?”  She looked at the clock.

“About two.  I’m just trying to kill some time.”  I gave her a dirty look. “What?”

“You are only giving me one hour to calm down.  You son-of-a-bitch.  This is going to take more than a hundred dollars.” I told her.  She didn’t care what I had to say.  She focused her attention on the TV and started to ignore me.  For a few minutes, we didn’t say anything.  “Why are we going to the mall with them?” I asked her.

“Oh!  So that I can hang out with Ivan some more.”

“You see him at school everyday.  And why is that asshole Jason coming?”  She laughed a bit.  “You didn’t.”

“I did.  I wanted to hang out with Ivan, but the only way he would come is if you came along with Jason.  I had no choice.”

“You had a choice, you just wanted to see that boyfriend of yours, but he wouldn’t go with you unless you hooked me up with his brother.”

“How did you know that they were brothers?” she asked me.  I shrugged my shoulders.  “Guess?”  I nodded.  We didn’t talk for a while.  My father remained in the kitchen, as always, and my mother stayed asleep.  Finally, two o’clock came around.  Armeana and I waited at the door for them to arrive.  She seemed so ecstatic, I wasn’t too happy.  At about two thirty, the boys finally showed up.  They said that they got lost looking for the house.  I couldn’t understand why, our house was huge.  You could say that we were rich, but it was only because we had been around for about a hundred years and made enough money.  Sadly, I can’t remember anything before fifteen years ago.  Same as Armeana.  As far as we were concerned, we had a lot of money and no one knew our secret.  We didn’t care about anything else.  My father piled us into his car and we drove out to the mall.  The whole way there Ivan and Armeana talked.  Jason tried once to talk to me, but it was useless.  It took us about twenty minutes to get to the mall.  My father dropped us off and told us to call when we were ready to go home.  About five minutes after that, I called him to come get me.  He just laughed at me and hung up the phone.  Armeana had to drag me into the mall or else I was just going to sit outside the whole time.  She made Jason carry me most of the way, just to piss me off.  When we got inside, Jason dropped me onto the ground and turned to us.

“Welcome to the mall!” he shouted.  Armeana laughed a little and started to walk off with Ivan.  I stood and walked with them only to be pulled back by Jason.  “No, no, no.  You have to stay with me.  Leave them be.  You’re stuck with me today.”  I gave him a dirty look, but he never let go of my arm.

“You’re kidding, right?” I asked.  He shook his head.

“Nope, Armeana promised that you would spend the day with me if Ivan took her to the mall.”  I jerked my arm back, but it didn’t get out of his grasp.  He was pretty strong a human.  The grip he had on my arm felt familiar.  I couldn’t place my finger on it.  It felt like the same grip my mother gave me when I would get in trouble.  That was the only way that I could describe it.  My fathers grasp was much more rough because demons were stronger in most ways.  Jason’s grasp on my arm felt like one from a vampire.  I studied his face for a bit.  His eyes would’ve been red and he would’ve had sharp teeth, but he didn’t have any of that.  He just looked like a human with his bright blue eyes and perfect teeth.  Finally, he let me go and walked in the opposite direction.  I didn’t know if I should follow him, follow Armeana, or just leave.  Before I could decide, Jason came back and picked me back up.

“Damn it, put me down!” I ordered.  He didn’t listen.  It wasn’t until we got to the other side of the mall that he put me down.  “What is wrong with you?” I asked him.

“Lots of things.” He answered me.  I rolled my eyes.  He just laughed.  We wondered around the mall for about two hours before wondering into the food court.  There we met up with Ivan and Armeana.  The three of them ate while I just sat there.  I was busy focusing on the loud thumping noise that was in the background of all the people.  Armeana heard it too, and I could tell that she heard it, but she ignored it.  For some reason, Jason and Ivan seemed to be unfocused when the noise started getting louder.  No one else seemed to hear it.  Armeana, for some odd reason, never shut up, even as the noise was loud enough for even the humans to hear.

“What was that?” some small child at the table next to us asked.  his mother looked around.  People who were originally outside started to push and shove their way in.

“Something is coming!” a large man yelled, pointing out pass the door.  And, he was right.  Something large was coming.  When Armeana finally closed her mouth, the large, lets say thing, was trying to make it’s way through the large brick wall that enclosed us all.  Armeana and I looked at each other.  We had a good idea of what it was and why it was here.
